Bed Bugs that was a topic of discussion Tuesday during the Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting. Jeannie Wolf, program administrator for the Washington County Environmental Health Department, said she would be holding a public educational program for the worsening epidemic of bed bugs in the county. It is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wolf said she has been receiving calls about bed bug infestations from schools, law enforcement officials, landlords, daycare providers, real estate agents, nursing homes, theaters and motels.

Many people, said Wolf, view bed bugs from being a myth to thinking, I keep a clean house and dont have to worry about it which is not true. Anyone can get bed bugs, she noted.

Speaking at the program will be Wolf; Gordon Olberding, Jackson, Hawkeye K Bed Bug Detection; Dena Wetlauser, Spring Pest Controls; Jim Sleichter, Standard Pest Control; and Larry Brock, County Attorney.

The board tabled until next week a resolution that would authorize an inter-fund loan from the General fund to the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) Fund. County Treasurer Jeff Garrett asked for the postponement to iron out some details.

Tax funds come in every six months and there are only two more payments left on the Riverside Infrastructure Bond. Interest charges would be saved, he said, by making both payments at once. The General Fund would be paid back later when further TIF funds come in.
