Health officials warn against the use of Ivermectin to treat COVID –

Dr. Josh Denson is the Tulane Medical Director of Critical Care and Pulmonology. He is doing COVID research and caring for ICU patients. He agrees with Dr. Kemmerly.

NEW ORLEANS It's a pandemic controversy being argued on social media.

It's over the drug for people and animals called Ivermectin. Some doctors are prescribing it to treat COVID, while others say it's dangerous. Still, veterinary doses are selling out at feed stores.

In March, Edward Lucarini caught the coronavirus.

I started to feel symptomatic, feverish started and fatigue. I was a little concerned because I'm diabetic, said Edward Lucarini, 60, of Long Island.

His brother-in-law, emergency medicine physician Dr. Paul Harch, prescribed Ivermectin.

Within three hours, the fever broke and I had the energy to get up and shave and shower, Lucarini said.

Ivermectin has long been around to treat parasites on your skin and internally. Veterinarians often use it. Dogs take it to prevent heartworms. Dr. Harch believes studies show it can act as an antiviral against COVID and prescribed an exact dose off label for his relative.

I see overwhelming evidence that it can affect patients in a beneficial way and their outcome, An international coalition of doctors has assembled this information from many, many randomized trials, Dr. Harch said.

But other doctors don't recommend it. Infectious disease specialist Dr. Brobson Lutz says it's for bedbugs and scabies, not COVID.

Ochsner infectious disease physician Dr. Sandy Kemmerly says studies that went viral on the internet were done in test tubes, where 250 times a normal human dose was used and they were later considered fraudulent.

Newer meta-analysis, so that looked at a number of studies which has been recently peer-reviewed and published, shows there's absolutely no data to support its use to treat COVID, Dr. Kemmerly said.

Dr. Josh Denson is the Tulane Medical Director of Critical Care and Pulmonology. He is doing COVID research and caring for ICU patients. He agrees with Dr. Kemmerly.

Today, I was talking to someone who was prescribed Ivermectin in another state and now is in the ICU on a ventilator. I would not recommend it for me, myself or my family. I wouldn't recommend anybody else taking it right now for COVID-19, Dr. Denson said.

Doctors say it delays being treated with medications shown to help, such as Regeneron infusions. And they say Ivermectin can be dangerous.

In Mississippi, where 70% of their calls to poison control were from citizens taking the horse and the cow, the veterinary preparations, of Ivermectin, Dr. Kemmerly said.

But all the doctors agree, don't ever just pick a dose and medicate yourself with anything, without your doctor's trained advice.

The Louisiana Department of Health, The Infectious Disease Society of America, FDA, CDC, and WHO, have all come out against the use of Ivermectin for COVID-19.

National Review

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell urged Senate Republicans to vote against President Bidens choice to lead the Department of Homeland Security, blasting Alejandro Mayorkas as an ethically-compromised partisan lawyer. Frankly, his record should foreclose confirmation, even to a lower post, McConnell said Tuesday in a withering speech on the Senate floor, adding that it is remarkable that someone with this record is even up for a Cabinet appointment. Ill be voting against his confirmation and urge our colleagues to do the same. The Kentucky Republican listed several aspects of Mayorkass career that he said make the DHS veteran unworthy of the Cabinet post. As a high-ranking official in the Obama administration, Mr. Mayorkas did his best to turn U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services into an unethical favor factory for Democratic Party royalty, McConnell continued. McConnell referenced an inspector general report that discovered Mayorkas had intervened to help several foreign investors connected to high-profile Democrats obtain green cards. Mayorkas previously headed U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, where he promoted a culture of fear and disrespect, McConnell charged. The Senate GOP leader said he has supported Bidens other Cabinet nominees up to this point because they are mainstream choices, but argued Mayorkas is something else. A handful of other Senate Republicans have also voiced concern about Mayorkass nomination as DHS chief. Theres a number of problems with that nomination that we need to talk about, Senator John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, said last week. Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called Mayorkass qualifications unassailable. He is a seven-year veteran of the DHS and has already been confirmed by this chamber three three times, Schumer said. Like most of President Bidens Cabinet nominees, his nomination is also history-making: He will be the first Latino and first immigrant to hold the top job at DHS. The Senate voted to confirm Mayorkas as DHS Secretary Tuesday afternoon in a 56-43 vote. So far, five of Bidens Cabinet-level nominees have been confirmed: Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg, and Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Personal Injury Lawyer Assisting Clients Harmed by Bed Bugs in Mississippi

When you pay to stay in a hotel or rent an apartment in Mississippi, you expect the space to be free of bed bugs. You assume that you will not suffer harm because of a bed bug infestation. However, bed bugs are more common that most of us would like to think. The National Pest Management Association (NPMA) reports that 99.6 percent of pest control experts have responded to at least one bed bug infestation. The majority of those infestations occur in apartment buildings, homes, and hotels or motels. Bed bugs can survive in Mississippi year-round. Still, a higher percentage of cases occur during the summer months.

You may notice sustained significant bed bug injuries after a recent hotel visit. Or, you may notice an infestation in your apartment that causes injury. If so, you should discuss your options for filing a claim with an experienced personal injury lawyer.

The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) notes that bed bugs cause swelling, inflammation, and rashes. However, individual sensitivity to bed bug bites varies from person to person. These insects often bite all over a persons arms, legs, buttocks, back and any other areas of exposed skin. As such, bed bug bite victims can scratch at the bites, leading to serious infections. Bed bugs are nocturnal. This means they are most active at night. Bed bugs survive solely by feasting on the blood of humans or animals. If you do think you have a bed bug bite, take steps to preserve evidence for your personal injury case:

Take photographs and videos:You should immediately take photographs and videos of your bites. Document any evidence of bed bugs you may find in the location where you were bitten. In addition, you should use your cell phone or camera to photograph and video the bed bugs (dead or alive). Bed bug larvae can appear milky or clear in color, while adult bed bugs will often appear reddish brown. Bed bugs are small, and can sometimes be difficult to detect. If an area is infested, you can typically find bed bugs in mattress seams and crevices, bedding, pillow-cases, and furniture creases and crevices.

Report the incident to the property owner or property manager: If you are staying at a hotel or motel, immediately tell the hotel manager. Request an incident report for your records. If you are staying at a rental apartment, notify your landlord immediately. Then, follow-up with a report in writing to the person you are renting from.

Seek medical attention: If you are able to do so, visit an emergency department or doctors office to have your bed bug injuries diagnosed and treated the same day you discover bed bug bites. By visiting a healthcare provider as soon as possible, you will have medical records that help to date your bed bug injuries to your stay at the hotel or apartment with the infestation.

The statute of limitations in personal injury cases specifies the amount of time a person has from the date of her injuries to file a lawsuit. Under Mississippi law (Miss. Code Section 15-1-49(1)), plaintiffs in a bed bug injury case typically have three years from the date of the bed bug bites to file a claim. Failure to initiate a lawsuit within the statute of limitations can prevent you from filing a personal injury claim. IT IS IMPORTANT TO CONTACT A LAWYER IMMEDIATELY TO PROTECT YOUR RIGHTS.

As soon as you have documented your bites and received medical attention for your bed bug injuries, reach out to a bed bug injury lawyer in Mississippi to learn more about filing a claim for compensation. The property owner or manager of the premises where the bed bug injuries occurred may be liable. Contact the Harris Law Firm, PLLC to discuss your options.
