Sell your car privately. Due to current demand for used carsespecially older, high-mileage vehiclesa private sale is likely to fetch more for your car than a dealer might pay in a trade-in deal. If you are buying a new car, negotiate that price independent of the trade-in. Only after the deal is done should you let them bid on your old car. That way youll know what the dealer is really offering.

Despite the ecological lessons weve learned about the drawbacks of plastic bottles, packaged water is still growing in popularity all over the world. But not only is it a very small percentage of plastic bottles that actually get recycled, its not necessarily better for you to drink it. If youre on the fence about making the switch to filtered tap water, maybe this other green fact will make your decision easier: You could save about $1,400 a year by ditching bottled water if you drink eight bottles of water a daywhich is what would be required to meet the Food and Nutrition Boards recommendation. Going to the tap means youll spend less than $1 per year.

If you bought a bag of baking flour more than a year ago, theres a good chance that flour has gone bad. Pull it out of the pantry and give it a whiff. Does it smell rancid? If so, its a good idea to toss it away. But before you do, go grab any decks of playing cards you have around the house. Throw the cards into a bag and cover them with the old flour. Seal and then shake. The flour will coat the cards and take away the dirt, grime, odors and oils to make the cards fresh and clean again. Then sprinkle the remaining old flour in the yard. Its biodegradable and your lawn will love it.

Information

Reason youre always tired. Research suggests that fatigue runs as high as 50 percent in people 65 and older, compared with rates in the general population, which range from 10 to 25 percent. Fatigue is common when youre fighting any kind of illness, from infections to autoimmune disorders. All of us feel tired some of the time. Usually it goes away, either with sleep or time. If unexplained fatigue continues for more than a few weeks, its time to figure out whats causing it. Here are some of the likely suspects: your medications are sapping your energy; your sleep hygiene may need improvement; youre missing key nutrients, especially vitamins B12 and D, iron and folic acid; youre anemic; you have a heart or pulmonary problem; youre anxious or depressed; or lingering COVID-19 symptoms after a persons initial illness.

We drag our suitcases, carry-on bags and backpacks all over the country (or world) when we travel. When we get home, we wash all of our clothesbut we dont think twice about the bag all of that clothing was carried in. One of the easiest ways to give bedbugs a free ride into your home is through your luggage. Try this simple trick to see if your bags have bedbugs, blow hot air from a hair dryer all over them. Use slow and steady motions over the edges and corners of the bag. Bedbugs hate heat, and they will reveal themselves. If you see them, take steps to fully disinfect your bag outside of the home before bringing it back indoors.

How Long Do Bed Bugs Live? | Bed Bug Life Cycle | Terminix

If youve had to deal with bed bugs hitching a ride home on your pet or your luggage, youve probably asked yourself, "how long do bed bugs live?"

As far as insect life spans go, bed bugs crawl the earth for longer than most tapping out around the 10-month marker, according to bedbugs.org. And while that 10-month window is true for most, some are thought to live up to a year.

A bed bug life cycle includes multiple stages. A female bed bug lays eggs in groups of one to 50 and they take anywhere from six to 17 days to hatch, according to bedbugs.org. By the time she dies, a female will have laid hundreds of eggs.

The eggs are small, about 1 millimeter in size, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. One millimeter is around the size of a mustard seed.

With the right conditions and temperatures, a bed bug can go from an egg to its adult stage in approximately 37 days. Warmer climates promote faster bed bug reproduction and development.

Baby bed bugs are called nymphs. A nymph will go through five phases of growth before it becomes an adult, shedding its skin each time, according to the EPA. They start life at 1.5 millimeters (the thickness of a U.S. penny) and grow to about 4.5 millimeters (the size of a medium-to-large pearl).

Even in their nymph stages, bed bugs are ready to eat. They primarily feed off of people, but will also bite animals including dogs, cats, rodents and chickens. A bed bug can last up to a year or longer without feeding if the temperatures are ideal.

Still, the average bed bug life cycle isnt very long, but they do lead active lives, which includes aggressively mating. If you think you may have signs of bed bugs, contact a pest management professional immediately.

What Are Bed Bugs?Bed Bugs are small, flightless, rust-colored parasites that feed on the blood of humans and other warm-blooded animals. Homeowners should learn the telltale signs of these pests.Adult bed bugs are flat and can be the size of apple seeds, Aprox. 1/4 inch to 3/8 inches long with rust-colored, oval bodies. Newly hatched bed bugs are semi-transparent, light tan in color, and the size of a poppy seed.

Yet, due to their elusive nature, their presence is usually discovered through peripheral clues rather than by seeing the bugs themselves. Some of these signs include small droppings, blood smears, crushed bugs, or the itchy bumps that may result from bites. The bugs may be disturbed while feeding and leave a cluster of bumps, or they may bite in a row, marking the path of a blood vessel. The parasites emit a characteristic musty odor, although the smell is sometimes not present in even severe infestations. The bugs also emit a scent that is picked up by dogs, which has lead to the implementation of dogs for bed bug detection. Properly trained dogs can find bed bugs in wall voids, furniture gaps, and other places that homeowners may overlook. This helps exterminators to know where they should focus their efforts.

History and ResurgenceBed bugs were all but eradicated in the 1950s, but they have re-emerged in a big way. At the Environmental Protection Agencys National Bed Bug Summit in 2009, researchers decided that the parasites revival is more appropriately termed a pandemic rather than an epidemic, noting its rapid spread across large regions and different continents. The United States has seen a 50-fold increase in bed bug infestations over the last five years, according to the National Pest Management Association. The outbreak has affected most parts of North America and Europe, especially in urban areas.Researchers believe that bed bugs resurfaced for two reasons: the termination of the use of the pesticide DDT; and a rise in international travel. DDT, a powerful and dangerous synthetic pesticide, was widely used in agriculture & pest control until a public outcry concerning its safety lead to a U.S.-ban of the chemical in 1972, followed by international bans. This would permit future outbreaks to grow unchecked when travel increased from countries where bed bugs were never subjugated, such as India.Urban hubs of international travel, such as New York City, have been hit hardest by the resurgence. The bugs hitch ridesfrom country to country in suitcases and creep into hotel rooms, where other guests are then exposed and unknowingly spreadthe parasites to movie theatres, cabs, buses, hospitals, their homes, and everywhere in between. In New York City, bed bug reports increased 800% from 2008 to 2009, a year in which the Department of Housing Preservation and Development received 13,152 complaints of bed bug infestations. For Anti-Bed Bug Travel TipsChecklist visit our PDF Libray

Fortunately, the health dangers posed by bed bugs appear to be limited to temporary skin irritation and inflammation, akin to mosquito bites. There are no known cases of disease transmission from bed bugs to humans. However, a small percentage of the population may experience anaphylactic shock. Measures should be taken to prevent bacterial infection of bites from bed bugs by washing the area with soap and water and applying an antiseptic. For DIY Non-Chemical Bed Bug ManagementChecklist visit our PDF Libray
