Chicago leads in bed bugs for 2nd year
Chicago ranks top U.S. city for bed bugs (Reuters file photo / January 16, 2014)

Chicago has earned the creepy-crawly distinction of being ranked first in bedbug infestations for the second year in a row, according to pest control company Orkin.
Los Angeles came in second on Orkins list of cities where it does the most business, and Columbus, Ohio was third. New York, the nations biggest city, fell dramatically in the rankings. It came in 17th last year, falling from 10th place in 2012.
The list released by Orkin ranks the cities by the number of bedbug treatments Orkin performed from January to December 2013.
Chicagos rash of bedbug infestations led the City Council last summer to pass an ordinance requiring condo associations to have a formal plan in place for detection, inspection and treatment.
Bedbugs can hide in a number of places in a home, including mattress seams, picture frames and electrical outlets. About the size of an apple seed when fully grown and fed, they can be tricky to spot.
Signs of an infestation include rust-colored stains on sheets or other surfaces on or around a bed and a sweet musty odor, according to the CDC. The bugs tend to spread quickly because they inject an anesthetic when they bite, which prevents a person from realizing that they've been bitten.

DEP URGES SAFETY IN BATTLE AGAINST BED BUGS
DEP URGES SAFETY IN BATTLE AGAINST BED BUGS
(10/P100) TRENTON - An alarming resurgence in bed bugs is causing many New Jersey residents to seek quick and deadly means to eradicate the pesky and persistent creatures. Towards that goal, and with an eye on safety, Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin is urging residents and pest control experts to use only registered pesticides and utilize good housekeeping practices to control the troubling insects.
The DEP is advising the hiring of licensed pest control companies to battle bed bugs. But if that is too costly or you can't wait to deal with the issue, use only federal- and state-registered pesticide products to control bed bugs, and follow label directions explicitly to avoid risks to yourself and others.
"It's a matter of public health,'' said Commissioner Martin. "There are effective ways to deal with this growing problem while not jeopardizing the health of yourself and loved ones. Choose carefully in deciding how to deal with this issue. It's most important to do it safely.''
Bed bugs are small, flat insects that feed on the blood of sleeping people and animals, according to the federal centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They are reddish in color, wingless, and range from one to seven millimeters in length. They can live for several months without a blood meal.
Bed bugs are experts at hiding, finding refuge in places such as the seams of mattresses, bed frames, headboards, box springs, dressers, behind wallpaper and in or under any clutter or objects near a bed.
Eliminating bed bugs can be difficult but not impossible if done properly, according to DEP experts. Hiring a New Jersey licensed pest control professional can increase the likelihood of speeding up success in eliminating bed bugs. The alternative is a home-applied chemical pesticide treatment.
Pesticides alone, however, will not likely solve your bed bug problems. Eradicating the bugs requires an Integrated Pest Management approach.
First, confirm the presence of bed bugs by inspecting rooms thoroughly, with a particular focus on the bedroom. Look for signs of bed bugs, for possible hiding places and for openings that would allow them to enter the home. Then clean and get rid of clutter to eliminate their shelter.
Consider a variety of removal methods that best fits your situation, including, vacuuming; employing intense heat or extreme cold on temperature-sensitive bed bugs, such as putting bedding into a hot clothes dryer for 20 minutes, steam cleaning or freezing bedding or clothing; and make any repairs needed to prevent future bed bug invasions.

Bed Bugs Love It Crowded
Bed bugs are known to multiply and spread quickly. And that makes those critters hard to completely get rid.
But thats not just it. A new study has discovered that their living in a group is also significant factor to their continued prevalence.
The study was published on the Journal of Medical Entomology in its January 2014 issue with the title Group Living Accelerates Bed Bug (Hemiptera: Cimicidae) Development. Conducted by the researchers from the North Carolina State University, it particularly found out that group living makes bed bug nymphs develop 2.2 days faster than those living alone. To other age groups, it was discovered that the crowd also has the same effect.
Moreover, the research discovered as well that the eggs of those vampire-like insects do not need any interaction with the adults of the group to develop. And that led the study to conclude that nymphs and eggs require no help from them to survive and join another infestation.

A new study published in the January 2014 issue of the Journal of Medical Entomology called Group Living Accelerates Bed Bug (Hemiptera: Cimicidae) Development is the first ever to document the effects of aggregation on bed bug development. Researchers from North Carolina State University found that bed bug nymphs developed 2.2 days faster than solitary nymphs a signifcant 7.3% difference.

Facebook is probably the most popular social media site on the internet, a lot of people feel that if you do not have a Facebook account then you are stuck in the Stone Age, and a lot of companies are realizing the marketing potential of Facebook. Yet there are plenty of company owners who do not understand the importance of having thousands of Facebook fans, thinking that their services will be ignored instead of being a topic of conversation.
People share a lot of different things on Facebook, apart from their personal photos and daily activities, if someone sees an offer they find interesting they share it with their friends, the friends who also think the offer is good will share it again, those friends will share it again and soon you have hundreds of people looking at your offer!
The problem is to reach people you need to have people who are already aware of your Facebook account, and many business owners do not know how to achieve this without spending hours in front of the computer trying to contact random people and convince them to go and like their Facebook page.
When you choose to look at the various marketing packaging available from various companies on the internet, make sure that you look for packages which allow you to buy Facebook fans so that you can increase the amount of people who know about your Facebook page and who will see your offers that you post on Facebook.
Having multiple Facebook fans increases your visibility on the internet which in turn increases your potential client base and your potential sales. Dont let the internet be a marketing tool that you ignore as your potential to succeed in your business increases dramatically once you have implemented the correct strategy to market your business on the internet.
Internet Marketing Companies Look To Provide Good Web Design Services
An internet marketing company can face a fair amount of success once they get a clear strategy set out. How long should most internet videos be? It is not recommended to create videos that are more than six minutes long. People do not have time to watch longer videos and an internet marketing company understands this.
You need to be able to identify your audience when a website is being run. It is also important to generate inbound content when you can do so. Leadership can make a big difference when you are attempting to run a forward thinking company.
