Bed bugs in Halifax, Nova Scotia — Got bed bugs …
Nova Scotia is fighting bed bugs.
The Daily News of Halifax, NS reports on the bed bug epidemic there. This is a fairly informative, if brief, article. A few things are of interest.
First, the reporter says that
Pest control sevices provide efficient ways to deal with bedbugs. They dust and spray for bedbugs, and inspect residences for sign of the bugs.
But if all PCOs provide such efficient control, why do most people need more three or more treatments (as reported widely elsewhere)?
And if theyre treated so easily, why are they spreading so easily? If controlled easily and quickly, we could wipe them out. In fact, theyre quite difficult to treat (and this is because of the limited efficacy of the pesticides legal for treatment), and are spreading rapidly:
In the past two years, there has been a significant bedbug increase, says John Zinck, the district manager of Orkin Pest Control.
Currently, were doing about 20 calls a week on average. Weve done at least 1,000 to 1,500 residential units this year in Halifax, he says.
Let me highlight that statement, Orkin alone have treated at least 1000 to 1500 residences for bed bugs in Halifax this year.
Halifax has a population of 380,000. Lets say they live in homes of approximately 3.5 people each. Thats 108,571 residential units. Lets say Orkin has treated 1500 residences, and other pest control operators have treated the same number combined (a conservative estimate, if Halifax has as many PCOs as other towns, and at least one other major chain besides Orkin). That would be 3000 residences. If 3000 residences in Halifax had bed bugs this year, thats 2.7% of the homes. Depending on the business other PCOs are getting in the area, of course, the numbers could be much higher.

Bed Bugs in Rhode Island | RI Bedbug Exterminator
There are plenty of ways that bed bugs in RI made it into your bed. You may not want to think about it, but understanding how they got there and how to get rid of bed bugs is the only way you will be able to sleep well at night. You certainly do not want to lie in bed every night and get bitten, so it is time to take some action and kick those bed bugs out.
Bed bugs in Rhode Island hotels are fairly common. They stay there because there are lots of beds and lots of people to keep feeding them. If you have stayed in one of these recently, then that is probably how they made it to your house.
As a precaution the next time you travel, you should keep luggage and laundry as far from the bed as possible. Those little plastic bags that hotels give you for laundry should be used. You may even want to consider storing your luggage up high, like on the top shelf of the closet.
Now that the Rhode Island bed bugs are in your house, though, you don not want them to stay too much longer. There are home remedies that may correct the problem for a day or two, but it is not a permanent solution. The reason for this is because bed bugs can survive several weeks without ever feeding. Plus, if you do not have an allergic reaction to the bite, you might not even be aware that they are feeding off of you.
The only real way to get bed bugs in RI out of your life is to have a bed bug exterminator come out and exterminate the area. They will be able to look for all of the signs throughout your house so that if they have made their way into a guest room or a couch somewhere everything gets treated. Home solutions are not as thorough.
Many bed bugs have grown resistant to some of the residential sprays, too. This means you are just wasting your money. You can spray the bed but these pesky central Rhode Island bed bugs keep on breathing (and biting).
A Rhode Island bed bug extermination company is the only way out of your current predicament. One call is all it takes. They come out, spray the house, use their experience to treat the problem entirely and you can rest knowing that the bugs are truly out of your house.
Our exterminators can help you with:

Bed bugs in Grand Forks, North Dakota public housing …
Public housing tenants in a Grand Forks, North Dakota public housing development are suffering from bed bug bites, according to a story in he Grand Forks Herald Saturday.
The article, Bedbugs infest GF apartment complex again, said twelve units were infested in the 76-unit Cherry Heights complex (at 110 Cherry Street), which houses those over 62, the disabled, and people on low incomes.
The word again in the headline referred to the fact that one unit in the building was infested back in March. This suggests that either (a) all bed bugs in the original infestation were not killed and later spread to others, (b) bed bug infestations were present at the time in other units that were not known about, (c) one or more tenants or staff have brought bed bugs in since the March infestation, or (d) all of the above.
The article says,
After the report of bedbugs in March, the affected apartment and surrounding units were treated.
We felt that we did have it under control. We felt we did everything that had to be done, [executive dirctor Terry] Hanson said.
From April to July, the housing authority received no reports of bedbugs. But its not clear whether this is a fresh case or a lingering one, Hanson said.
It is possible that other units besides surrounding ones were infested at the time. Its also not clear how many treatments occurred back in March. Most bed bug infestations take more than one treatment to clear up. Some take many more. If tenants do not react to bites, they may not know if bed bugs are gone. The housing authority should therefore not rely on subsequent reports of bed bugs before following up with further treatment.
The Grand Forks Herald said the building was being treated next week with pesticide spraying by Ecolab, and that tenants in the twelve units being treated would be asked to vacate their homes for two days during treatment.
I can only hope residents have been educated about how to avoid moving bed bugs to the hotels, motels, friends or relatives homes where they might stay during that time.

Bed bugs in Michigan; new Michigan bed bug manual — Got …
Remember the Bed Bug Resources (and Public Service Announcements) Michigan was using to inform citizens about bed bugs?
Now theres a Michigan Manual for the Prevention and Control of Bed Bugs, developed by the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Bed Bug Working Group, and you can download it here.
I have run through it fairly quickly and was impressed by the range of information and advice provided.
Bravo to Michigan for responding to this concern, which is surely plaguing many in the state.
Recent articles such as this one from a Detroit news station, about tenants battling bedbugs in the Pontiac Carriage Circle building in Pontiac, MI article which reassures readers that the building has been fumigated and bug bombed suggest that there is a serious lack of awareness about how to deal with this problem appropriately and effectively.
(Note: bug bombs and foggers are a bad idea where bedbugs are concerned, as the new manual makes clear.)

Bed Bug Services To Kill Bed Bugs In Kansas City And The …
The Bed Bug Problem
After a 50 year slump, bed bugs are back with a vengeance. Today, individuals traveling both home and abroad are likely to pick up these nighttime pests and introduce them to homes and businesses in their clothes and suitcases. Unfortunately, bed bugs may also be introduced into residential dwellings and commercial environments in retail bags, on used furniture and other unsuspecting items. And its not just hotels that are dealing with bed bugs in Kansas City; bed bugs are moving out of beds and into couches, airplanes, cabs and even movie theaters and if not treated quickly, bed bug infestations in Kansas City, Topeka and throughout Kansas and the entire Midwest can become a severe problem as these biting insects are superior breeders.
Mainly active at night when they come out to feed on human or animal blood, during the day bed bugs will congregate in hiding places that can include:
Mattresses, linens and upholstery
Furniture crevices
Wood trim
Electrical switches and outlets
In floors and cracks in floors
Behind wallpaper and wall hangings
Inside computers and other electronic devices
