Clark Arms residents dealing with bed bugs

JEFFERSONVILLE Some residents at Clark Arms are having to move belongings out of their apartments as a bed bug infestation has taken root.

Jenny Eldridge, whos mother-in-law lives at Clark Arms a public housing complex for elderly and disabled residents said she and family members spent several days last week clearing out closets full of coats, clothes, pictures, Christmas decorations and other items.

Bags of clothes had to be sealed, taken to a laundry facility, and washed in hot water to kill the bugs.

This has been a nightmare, Eldridge said, noting that shes worried about other residents who dont have family to help them move things out. Some of them are sick and disabled and dont have people that can help them.

Her mother-in-laws place was sprayed Monday and shes back in the apartment now. However, Eldridge is still upset because a couch from the apartment might have to be tossed out in order to get rid of the bugs completely.

Louisville-based OPC is treating the infestation and their staff told her the couch might have to go. OPC President Donnie Blake said he understands how hard the request is but said it might be necessary in order to treat the apartment.

Bed bugs are tough, Blake said. Trying to do these treatments are extremely invasive. Its no fun whatsoever.

In some cases, Blake said, the value of the furniture may not match up with the cost of treatment. Eldridge wants the authority to hire someone who will treat the used furniture.

Further, she doesnt like that OPC is going apartment to apartment to treat the bugs rather than treating the entire floor. Blake said treating only the infested units and adjacent units is the companys standard practice.

There are 101 units in Clark Arms and seven of them are under treatment for bed bugs, said Housing Authority Executive Director Phillip Bates. The housing authority is paying for the treatments and Bates said OPCs methods have been successful at eradicating the bed bugs when theyve worked at other authority properties.

Champaign Man Upset Over Apartment Bed Bugs

A Champaign man got a disgusting surprise as he drifted off to sleep Tuesday night. He found a bed bug crawling on his wall. Robert Ross was watching a movie, when his fiance noticed the bug.

"We were laying down for bed and that's where he was when I squashed him," Robert Ross said.

He wasted no time to get away from the problem. He packed up his fiance and kids and went to a hotel.

Wednesday, he wanted to make sure the bugs were gone. He washed all of the family's clothes and hired a cleaning service. It has cost him thousands of dollars.

"We've got to use all of our savings to get things cleaned," Ross said.

The property manager of Wellington Place Apartments tells us he offered to pay for a preventative treatment. He says Ross moved into the apartment three weeks ago and may have brought the bug in with him. The place has new carpet and was recently inspected for bugs and none were found.

(PRWEB) May 01, 2012

Bed bug bites got a plane locked down last Thursday, said a report from suntimes.com dated April 26. One passenger of the aircraft was mistaken to have contracted an infectious disease. After discovering that the root cause of the incident were the bed bug bites, BedBugBully.com gave advice how to identify the marks. In addition, the website also suggested tips how to get rid of bed bugs fast and safe.

According to the report, Lise Sievers was suspected to have acquired monkeypox from her trip to Uganda. After receiving a call from La Porte Hospital about her rashes, Center for Disease Control held the plane she was on in Detroit and checked Sievers.

During the stop-over, it was said that the 50-year old called her mother. The report detailed that she told her about the bed bug bites she got from her hotel and the pustules she saw in the boy she'd hoped to adopt. Confused that Sievers was the one with pustules, her mother then called La Porte Hospital for advice. In turn, the hospital informed Center for Disease Control.

After confirming that the rashes Sievers got were not linked to monkeypox, the plane was allowed to continue its flight.

Magical Pest Control Teams Up with the oldest and most knowledgeable and professional K-9 detection service in Canada.

As bed bug inspection dogs offer the most effective way of detecting bed bugs with up to a 98% accuracy rate, Magical Pest Control is now the official go-to company for bed bug inspections in the Greater Toronto Area.

TORONTO, May 1, 2012 /CNW/ - Canadian military and law enforcement agencies have been using specially trained dogs to accurately detect bombs, firearms, ammunition, narcotics, missing persons, and signs of arson. Now, dogs have become the latest weapon in the war against bed bugs.

Traditional bed bug detection methods can be very time consuming and offer less than a 35% accuracy rate for even the best trained human inspector. However, certified bed bug detection dogs such as the ones deployed by Magical offer a much faster and more accurate way to inspect for bed bugs. The average bedroom can be inspected in less than two minutes.

The first bed bug dog inspection occurred in 2006 and this more accurate and scientifically proven method of inspecting for bed bugs is now the most popular form of bed bug detection in North America. Magical Pest Control aims to once again offer its clients the best products and services available to the industry.

"Certified K-9 bed bug detection teams are a necessity to any respectable pest control company, says Alex Dayan, manager of Magical Pest Control. "The key ingredient in this procedure is 'certification' as not all teams out there are certified. Our dogs can check for bed bugs behind walls, base boards, in dresser drawers and under carpets without having to strip down the room or pull baseboards away from the walls. This is also the least disruptive way for our clients."

All of Magical Pest Control dogs are 3rd party certified by the International Association of Canine Pest Inspectors (IAOCPI) and together with ongoing daily training, these dogs are very expensive resources.

"Due to our large fleet of bed bug inspection dogs, Magical Pest Control can now properly provide its clients with ongoing, real-time inspections," continues Dayan.

"Our K-9 detection teams are capable of performing precise and efficient inspections for a great number of hotel rooms, apartments or dorm rooms per day."

Magical Pest Control's Bed Bug Management Division offers free bed bug consultations to residential and commercial property owners.
