MOORHEAD, M.N. -- Some Moorhead residents in the Sharp View Apartments aren't too happy with the latest visitors. In the past week residents have found and documented over 10 bed bugs!

One resident told us she had to miss out on her familys Thanksgiving with her 100-year-old mother, because her loved ones didn't want to risk the chance of getting any bugs. Some said they feel a prisoner in their own home and think management isn't doing enough.

"Nobody can sleep, said John Johnson. It's a psychological problem as much as it is a physical problem."

Most fear going to bed to wake up finding red spots from these pesky pests all over their body.

Many are concerned for their health, but afraid to speak against management. The executive director of Moorhead Public Housing Authority said these bugs have been a problem since the beginning of November.

"Since then, we have sprayed the common areas of the building two times, all the common area furniture, every unit in the building, and everything was chemically treated, said Sally Roe, the executive director at Moorhead Public Housing Authority.

Despite the attempts to kill these pests that have out-stayed their welcome, a chemical treatment may not be enough. Fargo Cass Public Health told us these critters have built immunity to the chemicals used since the last scare a few years ago. Now, theyre back in the F-M area. The only way to rid them once and for all is a heat treatment.

"Two apartments of the 47 have been heat treated, said Roe.

The goal: to treat all apartments in the next three months. But, residents said it's not good enough, killing the bugs in one room at a time won't prevent them from spreading.

"The first thing in our lease it says you're entitled to a safe, clean, sanitary place to live and we're not getting that, said Johnson.
