Bed bugs are small parasitic insects. Their species name is Cimicidae and the most common type of bed bug insect is called Cimex lectularius. This breed of parasite affects us the most because their preferred food supply is human blood.

Bed bugs in themselves aren't specifically harmful to humans, but let's face it, any creature which feeds by breaking the skin of it's victim and sucking it's blood is going to cause health issues.
