Bed Bugs Trouble Pitt County Elementary, My Cleaning Products Suggest a Bed Bug Spray to Help Counter the Critters

Burlington, NC (PRWEB) April 03, 2014

Bed bugs were biting the students of a Pitt County Elementary School in North Carolina. And according to a report from witn.com, they were further spreading. In response to it, My Cleaning Products suggested a bed bug spray to help the county residents safely and effectively counter the pesky critters.

The report, dated March 31, 2014, said that two months after the start of the school year, a few students of Ayden Elementary School were found to have bed bug bites. And according to Pitt County Schools spokesman Brock Letchworth, their number rose to ten recently.

However, Letchworth clarified in the post that the school was not infected. The crawlies, according to him, were brought to the campus by children whose houses were infested. And to fight those pesky creatures, he stated that they were taking proactive measures and even bought a washer and a dryer to clear clothes of the critters.

In addition to that, the post relayed that the town of Ayden also plans to hold a meeting to educate the residents about the bed bug spread.

Here is an excerpt from the post Pitt County Elementary School Battles Bed Bugs by My Cleaning Products.

One of the worst things about bed bugs is that they don't spare any place. However, with their prevalence these days, reports of them infesting a house, apartment or even school is not that shocking anymore. But, definitely, it is troubling just as an elementary school in Pitt County in North Carolina has been troubled by them.

After two months since the start of the school year, a number of students of Ayden Elementary School were said seen with red bite marks. Those marks were believed to be bed bug bites.

According to My Cleaning Products, one of the things that makes bed bugs difficult to eliminate is their ability to spread fast. And as it stated, it's also because of that one must be quick to respond to any bed bug sign.

To do so, said MCP, would stop a few of those critters from causing a major infestation. It added that it would prevent a widespread of them as well.

Pitt Co. Elementary School Fights Spread Of Bed Bugs

Ayden Elementary School in Pitt County is learning a difficult lesson about bed bugs. Two months into the school year it was noticed a couple of students had red bite marks from bed bugs.

Pitt County Schools spokesman Brock Letchworth says, "It started to spread into the community. It started to spread from a couple of kids to now about 10 kids whose homes are infected with bed bugs."

Parents found out two weeks ago that these tiny night crawlers are apparently coming in from the student's homes.

Letchworth explains, "The thing people need to realize is the school is not infected. You've got children whose homes are infected and they're bringing bugs in the schools. We're being proactive and doing all that we can to address the situation and prevent the spread from one child to another."

Letchworth says they've tried to keep the bugs at bay, even buying a washer and dryer to clean clothes.

"Bed bugs are not a joke," says Tabitha Monaco, a parent. "I actually know somebody that has bed bugs and it took about a year and a half to get rid of them. They had to get rid of everything they owned."

Monaco's daughter and son attend the school and feels the school district is doing all it can.

Mayor Steve Tripp also talked to the school's principal about what the town can do.

Tripp says, "To me, it's about education. It's about educating the public."

The town of Ayden hopes to hold an informational meeting soon to educate the public about the spread of bed bugs.

Capital Region Pest Control Company Now Offering Bed Bug Heat Treatments

Albany, NY (PRWEB) April 03, 2014

Thomas Pest Services, serving the Albany and Adirondack Regions, releases the following statement regarding the control and treatment of bed bugs. "Bed bugs are one of the most difficult pests to treat. There are a variety of different methods that pest control professionals are administering to help get rid of bed bugs," says Sarah Thomas-Clark, Vice President of Thomas Pest Services, "but we have found that bed bug heat treatments are by far the most effective way to kill all stages of bed bugs."

It is safe to say that of all the invasive pests that make their way into homes and businesses, bed bugs are perhaps the most difficult to treat without professional help. They can show up at any time and almost anywhere there are people. The bed bug is nocturnal, becoming active at night or in the dark. Their tiny size also makes it easy for them to hide during the day. Bed bugs will burrow into the carpet, hide behind baseboards and window and door trim, under mattresses and bed clothing and behind light switches and receptacle covers.

In Albany, bed bug control has always been an issue with many business owners and homeowners. In fact, the control of bed bugs should not be a do it yourself type of treatment. The bed bug can survive without a blood meal for up to a year and about the time you think you have gotten rid of them, they suddenly surface again. On a professional level, there are various traditional methods of treatment. Canine scent detection is often used to find bed bugs and there are several bed bug control solutions available for your home and business.

Thomas Pest Services has found that bed bug heat treatments are the most effective way to kill bed bugs. Dry steam heat is used and once the temperature reaches 120 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, the heat is lethal to bed bugs no matter what stage of development they are in. This heat treatment method is environmentally friendly and highly effective. It is often in just one heat treatment that 100% of bed bugs are gone. This is a great option especially for businesses that cannot afford the downtime. The choice of which treatment to use often varies by the level of infestation and the particular environment. Bed bug heat treatments are not always the only choice of treatment and occasionally both conventional and heat treatments are used together in order to eradicate a severe bed bug infestation.

Additionally, Thomas Pest Services offers free education sessions for organizations teaching them travel tips and about the basics of bed bug prevention, detection and management tools. For more information on their bed bug services, visit 518gotpests.com.

Bedbugs found in Toronto classroom

TORONTO - The administration at the city junior/senior high school is taking precautions today after bedbugs were discovered in a classroom Tuesday.

One of the bugs was subsequently taken to Rose Pest Control to be identified after several small bugs were discovered in a classroom. School officials believe they've also discovered the source of the pests, according to Maureen Taggart, school principal and district communications coordinator. and Fred Burns, superintendent.

"Rose Pest Control is coming in today," Burns said.

Taggart sent an e-mail to parents notifying them of the discovery as well as precautions taken to minimize the risk of the bugs spreading. In the e-mail, Taggart told parents a student had been taken to the school nurse, items were removed from that student's locker and the room was closed to pupils and students to be disinfected.

"The Jefferson County Health Department was notified," reads the e-mail. "They indicated that we had taken all the recommended precautionary measures. They said that students are no more at risk of picking up these bugs while attending school than they are going to a movie theater, restaurant, grocery store or other public facility."

"This was probably brought in by the student's coat," said Burns, adding several small bite marks were discovered on the student's skin. "(Rose Pest Control) will come in today with dogs specifically trained to detect bedbugs. We can't spray the room yet because the dog wouldn't then be able to detect any bedbugs.

"That family (of the student) is staying home until they are checked out," continued Burns, adding the family will be checked by physicians.

"(The bugs) like to be in the dark," said Burns, adding bedbugs today have a stigma similar to lice. "It could happen to anybody."

Wikipedia defines bedbugs as "parasitic insects of the cimicid family that feed exclusively on blood." Bed bugs are mainly active at night, but are not exclusively nocturnal. They usually feed on their hosts without being noticed.

A number of adverse health effects may result from bed bug bites, including skin rashes, psychological effects and allergic symptoms. Diagnosis involves both finding bed bugs and the occurrence of compatible symptoms."
