Bed Bug Report for Embassy Suites Hotel Washington, DC, Washington, DC

Anonymous on 04/04/2013

We stayed on the 3rd floor and this morning my wife had some itchy red bumps on her arms. We looked around on the mattress and noticed some blood smears on the sheet near the head of the bed. We had to leave quickly to make our flight but plan on filing a complaint with the hotel when we get home.

family of five on 08/19/2012

I and my family stayed at Embassy Suites, Downtown DC. on June 5,6 and 7, 2012. One son and I noticed bites on our legs the last morning as we were leaving. We joked about bedbugs and dismissed it thinking they may be mosquito bites. We did not know all the precautions we were supposed to take to prevent them from entering our home. About three weeks later I saw two bugs next to my son's bed, but, since they were under an open window, I thought they came in from outside. A couple of weeks later,

two sons had bites and we looked it up on line and investigated further in our bedrooms. The exterminators came and did their work, and found them to be in all bedrooms as well as the living room. They said we could have had up to 100 hatchings since mid-June. What a mess! I called the hotel after the house was treated. The manager on duty took a report and said she would forward it to the General Manager and the Chief Engineer. I am waiting to hear back by Aug. 24. She told me they had not had any other reports in a couple months. (that is when we were there) I wish I knew about bedbugs BEFORE our stay. We will be more careful next time. We are hoping for some compensation since they clearly know about the problem.

Amy on 01/31/2012

Checked in on Monday, January 23, 2011 and immediately discovered bed bugs in my room covering the bed. I called the front desk and first was told that I must be wrong since the hotel does not have any problems with bed bugs. After I killed the second bug and saw blood again from the insect. I called the front desk and insisted that I get a room change. They wanted to move me a couple of rooms down the way but I again insisted that I get another floor and they agreed. They wouldn't admit to

anything until the next day when their pest control did find bed bugs. They washed or dry cleaned my clothes. They did try to assist and accomodate me once they identified the problem. They did say the bed bugs probably came from the room next to mine which was occupied.

Ankle bites galore on 09/14/2011

Just got back from an overnight stay Sept 12,2011. Ankles now covered with bites. Was never without socks except when in the room and in bed. Have stayed here before but not again.

The Allen Lee

1/27/13 Checked in, went out for a meeting, came back, sat on the bed, and turned on the Bulls/Wizards game. I see a bug crawl across the bed. I killed it, put it in a plastic bag, confirmed online that it was indeed a BEDBUG, and immediately got out of there. I showed the front desk the specimen, I said I wanted a refund, they did so and thanked me for being "discreet" as there were other guests in the lobby. read full report

In the drawers and on the box spring was bed bug feces.

5.0 out of 5 stars DIY that anybody can do and for less costs!, September 13, 2012

This review is from: Bed Bug Spray - Bed Bug Bully 32oz Eliminate bed bugs, eggs and larvis concentrated formula (Lawn & Patio)

1) Take ALL bedding, including your pillows, and wash and dry on high heat (or simply throw away and start over if you prefer). Bed bugs are very susceptible to high heat.

2) Vacuum your entire room, including along your base boards. Then grab your attachments and vacuum your mattress, too! Take the vacuum outside to dump in a garbage bag, tie tightly and toss in your outside bin. You don't want to take the chance of any escapee's running for cover back into your room.

Bed Bugs | Pesticides | US EPA – US Environmental Protection Agency

The common bed bug (Cimex lectularius) has long been a pest feeding on blood, causing itchy bites and generally irritating their human hosts. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) all consider bed bugs a public health pest. However, unlike most public health pests, bed bugs are not known to transmit or spread disease.

They can, however, cause other public health problems, so its important to pay close attention to preventing and controlling bed bugs.

Experts believe the recent increase in bed bugs in the United States may be due to more travel, lack of knowledge about preventing infestations, increased resistance of bed bugs to pesticides, and ineffective pest control practices.

The good news is that there are ways to control bed bugs. Getting good, solid information is the first step in both prevention and control. While there is no chemical quick fix, there are effective strategies to control bed bugs involving both non-chemical and chemical methods.

On this page;

Bites on the skin are a poor indicator of a bed bug infestation. Bed bug bites can be misidentified, which gives the bed bugs time to spread to other areas of the house. Bed bug bites can look like bites from other insects (such as mosquitoes or spiders), rashes (such as eczema or fungal infections), or even hives. Some people do not react to bed bug bites at all.

A far more accurate way to identify a possible infestation is to look for physical signs of bed bugs. For example, spots on bedding, as described below, are one of the earliest and most accurate methods.

When cleaning, changing bedding, or staying away from home, look for:

If the room is heavily infested, you may find bed bugs in the seams of chairs and couches, between cushions, in the folds of curtains, in drawer joints, in electrical receptacles and appliances, under loose wall paper and wall hangings -- even in the head of a screw. Since bed bugs are only about the width of a credit card, they can squeeze into really small hiding spots. If a crack will hold a credit card, it could hide a bed bug.

Colorado Bed Bug K9 – Cherry Creek – Denver, CO

My bedbug situation was worse than I had thought, and I didn't think exterminators, my landlord, or even friends who had gone through the same thing could even begin to help me rid my life of bedbugs. Feeling incredibly overwhelmed, I gave Walter a call, and he brought Macaroni out the very next evening. I thought I had a good idea of the places/things that were still infested after 2 extermination treatments, but Macaroni alerted to newer areas I didn't suspect. If I hadn't had him come to inspect, I probably would've taken the problem with me to my new apartment.

That knowledge (and relief) alone is worth millions.

I can't imagine where I'd be without Walter and Macaroni. Walter is an incredibly compassionate person who truly cares about those affected by these experiences, and I feel that his knowledge surpasses that of anyone else's. He is incredibly informative and willing to go above and beyond to help you rid your life of bedbugs and, more importantly, to make sure they don't come back. Words cannot speak of the optimism and overall comfort that Walter and Macaroni have provided me with their inspection, advice, and help. It feels like they've helped me to get my life back after months of turmoil. My deepest and most heartfelt thanks and appreciation go out to Walter and Macaroni. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
