While bed bugs are nasty little critters, they don't spread disease. If you have an infected bed bug bite, you most likely got it form scratching it. Many people are allergic to bed bug bites, making it hard not to relieve the itch by scratching. Another possibility is the bite may have gotten infected through a chance encounter with bacteria from some other source. Whatever the cause, here's how to clear up an infected bug bite.

Check your bed bug bite to see if it is infected. Bed bug bites are often bright red and welt-like, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the skin is infected. An infected bite may ooze whitish or yellow pus. It may also be painful instead of merely itchy.

Wash the infected bed bug bite with soap and water.

Swab the bed bug bite with an antiseptic like alcohol or hydrogen peroxide.

Apply an over-the-counter antibiotic cream or ointment to the bite.

Call your doctor if these steps don't control the bed bug infection. You made need a prescription of antibiotics to cure it.

What Are Bed Bugs?

An oval-shaped bug with a short broad head, bed bugs feed on blood. When they havent eaten, bed bugs look like an apple seed and are about 6 to 10 mm long. Once they eat they turn dark red and swell in size.

Nymphs are shaped like adults but are yellowish white in color. Bed bug eggs are white (about 1 mm long) and pear shaped. The eggs have a sticky coating and are deposited in cracks and crevices.

Can bed bugs make me sick?

Bed bugs do not spread disease and most people dont even know they have been bitten. For those who are sensitive to bed bug bites, they may have an allergic reaction such as itchy welts or small red bumps.

Most bed bug bites go away on their own and do not require treatment. Keep the area clean and do not scratch. If the bites are very itchy a physician may prescribe cream or antihistamines to relieve the itchiness.

How do I know if I have bed bugs?

Adult bed bugs are large enough to see. During the early stages of an infestation bed bugs are more likely to be found on box springs, mattresses, headboards and upholstered furniture. As they spread, they may hide behind baseboards, pictures, wall paper, window and door frames. Bed bugs hide in cracks and crevices during the day and come out to feed at night.

A quick and easy first step to check for bed bugs is to put double-sided tape around your bed or furniture. When the bed bugs walk across it, they will become stuck. They tend to walk where pipes and electrical sockets break the walls, along baseboards and under carpet edges. If you see a bed bug, wait before killing it and see where it is going. It may lead you to a nest that may be hidden.

If you have a bed bug problem, or even suspect that you might, dont wait another minute call Allgood Pest Solutions right now. Infestations can grow rapidly and persist indefinitely until proper corrective actions are taken.

According to the National Pest Management Association, bedbug infestations are on the rise. Pest control companies that used to get a few calls a year about bedbugs are now getting multiple calls each week! Bed bug infestations in North America have become much more common over the past 10 years and youve likely seen all the recent media coverage, its become an epidemic.

Bedbugs are extremely elusive and transient. They can live under extreme conditions, from enduring severe temperatures to being able to survive up to a year without eating. Also, bed bugs can be extremely difficult to detect and proper diagnosis typically requires highly trained professionals. These are not pests that a homeowner can eliminate on their own!

A typical bed bug management program consists of an intensive initial service followed by a number of follow up visits over a period of several months. Bed bug services are very labor intensive, rely heavily on the careful use of residual pesticides and should only be conducted by trained Allgood professionals. Proper service requires that ALL possible harborages are treated and this typically requires complete cooperation of the customer to access all areas that need to be treated.

1. Provide a thorough inspection to confirm the presence or absence of bed bugs. 2. Reactionary Treatments: Our company can provide services to control current bed bug infestations. 4. Proactive Treatments: Our company can provide services to try and prevent an infestation from occurring or prevent a current infestation from spreading to uninfected areas.

It is likely to continue seeing bed bugs following the initial treatment. You may actually experience an increase in activity and see more bugs than you did before the initial treatment. With each subsequent service you should see fewer and fewer bugs. Bed bugs are capable of getting into many environments that are inaccessible for treatment. They will also continue to exist in much greater numbers in areas that are crowded with personal belongings. These follow up visits are necessary to ensure a maximum level of control.

Bed Bugs Connecticut

" Bed bugs Connecticut was the subject of a forum conducted by Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station. Over 180 people met to discuss how to coordinate efforts to fight the increasing numbers of bed bug infestations in that State. This site provides the local government bedbug resources and information needed to fight this problem if you live in the State of Connecticut. Recent reports of bedbugs include an infestation in the Stamford schools"

Like other regions in the United States and around the world, the number of Bed Bug related incidents and complaints is on the rise.

You can either hire a professional bed bug exterminator (see list below) or for smaller infestations you can try and kill the bed bugs yourself. We suggest purchasing a kit that comes with the needed chemicals, steamer, mattress covers and instructions such as the one offered by Dermisil (organic) or Bed Bug Supply (insecticide).

For step by step instructions see our guide to how to kill bed bugs. A brief summary is as follows:

1. Vacuum - bed bugs can be picked up with a vacuum. Use the crevice tool around the baseboards, inside furniture and around the mattress, box spring and bed frame. Dispose of the vacuum bag immediately after cleaning outside of the home.

2. Launder - Wash all blankets, linen, bed covers and clothes in hot water and then dry on high heat for 20 to 30 minutes.

3. Fill Cracks and Crevices - Bed bugs look for spaces in floors and at the edge of walls to hide.

4. Treat Mattress and Box Spring: If you have a hand steamer, steam all seams and tufts of the mattress and box spring. Afterward, treat the mattress with a mattress safe bed bug spray such as Sterifab.

5. Treat the Bed Frame, Head Board, Baseboards and Adjacent Furniture: Use a knock down spray such as the Sterifab, which kills bed bugs and bed bug eggs on contact, followed by the use of a residual spray, such as Phantom, that provides killing protection for several weeks. This is important, as bed bugs and bed bug eggs are very easy to miss during treatment.

Empty any objects from drawers and wash, treat or dispose of items. Remove drawers and treat the drawers (under and inside) and inside the furniture itself with both sprays.
