What are bed bugs?

Bed bugs are small insects that feed on human blood. They are usually active at night when people are sleeping. Adult bed bugs have flat, rusty-red-colored oval bodies. About the size of an apple seed, they are big enough to be easily seen, but often hide in cracks in furniture, floors, or walls. When bed bugs feed, their bodies swell and become brighter red. They can live for several months without food or water.

Most bed bug bites are initially painless, but later turn into large, itchy skin welts. These welts do not have a red spot in the center like flea bites.

Although bed bugs are a nuisance, they are not known to spread disease.

Signs and symptoms of bedbug bites will usually affect only the surface of your skin, revealing themselves as small itchy red bumps known as papules or wheals. You might find the lesions in a linear or clustered fashion, indicative of repeated feedings by a single bedbug.

Some people may develop allergic reactions or larger skin reactions such as:

In most cases, people carry bed bugs into their homes unknowingly, in infested luggage, furniture, bedding, or clothing. Bed bugs may also travel between apartments through small crevices and cracks in walls and floors.

Bed bugs bill addressing landlord/tenant responsibilities …

The New Hampshire Union Leader reports that the New Hampshire Senate passed House Bill 482 Thursday, which outlines the parameters for dealing with bed-bug infestations and the responsibilities of landlords and tenants to remediate the problem.

You can read the full text of HB482 here.

According to The Union Leader,

The bill is a compromise among all the stakeholders, including tenants, landlords and municipalities. Proponents say the bill will allow a rapid response that clarifies the responsibilities for remedial action.

The bill grew out of the work of the Bed Bug Action Committee, bringing those affected by bed-bug infestations together to reach a compromise on the best methods to fight the problem.

The bill now goes to the governor.

House Bill 482 has a number of provisions, including the following requirements:

Regarding this last provision, sections IV and V of the bill outline how theyre planning to determine responsibility; it appears that if there havent been other complaints from tenants and if the infested unit and adjacent units havent previously been treated, the original tenant will be considered responsible as the one who brought bed bugs into the building.

Thats a bit troubling, because the problem is, where theres a concern that one might be held financially responsible (and be unable to pay), some tenants simply wont report the problem.

Of course, the bill is smart in the sense it sets up a situation where assuming that happens, and bed bugs spread into other units the original tenant can be held responsible as the true source.

‘Freeze-Intolerant’ Bed Bugs Can Survive Subzero Temperatures For Days

According to University Herald, a new study published in the Journal of Economic Entomology found that bed bugs can survive temperatures as low as 3 degrees Fahrenheit (-16 degrees Celsius) for up to three days time.

For the study, researchers recorded what temperatures led to 100 percent mortality of all life stages of bed bugs. They discovered that it would take 80 hours to kill all bed bugs at 3 degrees Fahrenheit and 48 hours to destroy them at -4 degrees Fahrenheit. In other words, sticking your infected sheets and clothes in the freezer wont really work, at least in the long term, unless you can replicate these conditions.

According to the study, the bugs high cold tolerance is attributed to its use of a freeze-intolerant strategy, meaning the parasitic pest can actually lower the freezing point of its bodily fluids when faced with harsh conditions.

The news comes at a time when major cities around the globe have seen a resurgence in bed bug infestations. Although the presence of bed bugs has traditionally been seen as a problem in developing countries, it has recently been spreading rapidly in parts of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other parts of Europe, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, noted.

According to NBC News, bed bugs have infiltrate hotels, homes, schools and even offices. They can live in the crevices of sheets, clothing, wallpaper, headboards, mattresses and dresser tables.

Fortunately, the bugs are not known to carry diseases, but they do leave an irritating and itchy rash on their victims. Theyre also incredibly hard to eradicate.

To treat bedbugs, the CDC recommends hiring a professional exterminator who will probably use an insecticide spray to kill the bugs in your home or apartment. The best way to treat bed bugs is to catch them early. Look for signs of bed bugs in your home. If you see dark spots on your sheets about the size of the period at the end of this sentence, that could be bed bug excrement. Also look for small blood stains on your sheets caused by crushed bed bugs.

Bed Bugs Confirmed in Indianapolis High School, My Cleaning Products Suggests a Bed Bug Spray to Help Solve the Problem

Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) December 11, 2013

Bed bugs were discovered in yet another school. And wanting to help its officials and all the other bed bug victims, My Cleaning Products then suggested a pesticide-exempt bed bug spray.

In a report from fox59.com, posted on December 10, 2013, Arlington High School was cited as the school affected by the incident, My Cleaning Products shared. And as it detailed, parents were informed about it via a letter late last week.

However, though the school confirmed the bed bug issue, the report stated that in the letter sent to parents, Principal Alicia Hervey cleared that only one of the critters was found. Additionally, because anyone could bring in the crawlies to the building, she said that there may still be future sightings of the pests.

Here is an excerpt from the post Bed Bug Found Indianapolis High School by My Cleaning Products.

Bed bugs are now so prevalent that even campuses are troubled by them. And according to a report, the latest of which to have a taste of their pesky presence was a high school in Indianapolis.

Particularly, it was Arlington High School that was most-recently linked with those tiny vampire-like critters. But though the school confirmed the issue, it said that only a single bed bug was seen in the campus last week.

My Cleaning Products said that bed bugs are so prevalent these days that they now trouble even schools. However, it stated residences are still the most-susceptible to their presence.

Because of that, MCP advised the public to exert an effort to prevent the critters. Moreover, it told everyone to always be ready to kill bed bugs as they are sneaky. Doing so, it said, could prevent the worst of the things those crawlies could bring.

To be prepared to eliminate bed bugs, MCP said that must have a bed bug spray prepared. With it within reach, it elaborated that one could immediately implement treatment soon after the pests are detected.

Study Discovers Bed Bugs Could Tolerate Low Temperature; My Cleaning Products Suggests Another Alternative to Kill Bed …

Chicago, IL (PRWEB) December 10, 2013

Bed bugs were recently discovered able to survive low temperatures. In response to it, My Cleaning Products recommended a safe alternative to kill bed bugs quick.

In a report from natureworldnews.com posted on December 09, 2013, it was said that a recent study found out that the vampire-like critters could lower their bodies' freezing point as their defenses against low temperatures, My Cleaning Products related. The details of it, it shared, were published on the Journal of Economic Entomology.

Because of their defense mechanism, the researchers from Entomological Society of America said in the report that it takes some time to kill the crawlies by freezing, relayed MCP. Particularly, it detailed that at minus 16 Celsius, at least 80 hours of exposure is needed to eliminate the crawlies. At minus 20 Celsius, it added that it would take 48 hours to exterminate them.

Here is a part of the post Bed Bugs Able to Survive Low Temperature by My Cleaning Products.

Bed bugs could be eliminated in a number of ways. Freezing the items affected is one of those methods highly recommended to their victims. However, low temperature is less fatal to those pesky bugs than it was thought to be.

A study has discovered that like an Asian specie of cockroach, bed bugs could actually tolerate low temperature for quite some time. Details about them being cold survivors were given in the Journal of Economic Entomology.

My Cleaning Products said that freezing is a recommended method to get rid of bed bugs because it involves no chemicals. However, given that it is not as fatal to the pests as it was thought to be and not applicable to huge items infested by pests, the company recommended a safe method as an alternative to it.

That method is killing bed bugs via a bed bug spray. However, MCP warned the public to only use a product made of organic ingredients to protect everyone's health. And of them, it asserted that Bed Bug Bully is the best.

As it reasoned out, Bed Bug Bully is the best as it is an organic-based product recognized by EPA. It stated that it is even on its FIFRA 25(b) list. Apart from that, it said that hotels, hospitals and pest-control companies had testified that it is truly effective.
