Bed Bugs Pest Control, Exterminators Raleigh, Charlotte …

It is important to recognize the signs of a bed bug infestation. The bed bug gets its name from its close association with humans and their beds. Bed bugs were introduced to the US by the early colonists. It was thought after World War II that bed bugs were eradicated in the US. In recent years, the numbers of incidents of people being bitten by bed bugs has increased exponentially in Raleigh, Charlotte, Wilmington and across the country.

Bed bugs are small, oval, wingless insects that reach about 1/4 inch in length. They have flat bodies and are reddish-brown in color. Bed bugs feed by sucking blood from people or animals. They do not develop wings and cannot fly. Fortunately, they are not known to carry any diseases.

Bed bugs are great hitchhikers and are easily transported. Their transmission points are points of high human occupancy like hotels, etc. Because of their flattened bodies, bed bugs hide in small crevices, particularly those associated with mattresses, box springs, bed frames and headboards. In addition, they may be carried as stowaways in luggage, furniture, clothing and boxes when these are moved between hotels, homes and apartments.

Under normal conditions, bed bugs can live for over 300 days. The female bed bug lays up to 5 eggs a day. These eggs are approximately 1 mm long, white and are glued in protected cracks and crevices. A female can lay over 500 eggs in her lifetime.

Usually people do not see bed bugs because the pests hide during the day. At night, bed bugs become active and are attracted to sleeping people and animals.

Bed bugs do not build nests but they do tend to congregate in habitual hiding places. These areas are marked by dark spotting and staining, which is the dried excrement of the bugs. You can also find eggs and eggshells, cast skins of nymphs and even the bugs themselves.

Another likely sign of a bed bug infestation is the presence of rusty or reddish spots of blood on bed sheets, mattresses and walls.

They may also be found along the edge of and under wall-to-wall carpet, behind pictures, switchplates and outlets, in clothing and inside clocks, televisions, phones and smoke detectors.

A sign of being bitten is the presence of small, red, itchy bumps on the skin.

Bed Bug Treatment VA, Heat Treatment for Bed Bugs …

Hotels, hospitals, homes, and businesses of all sorts in Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC, West Virginia and Pennsylvania, have been hit by the bed bug menace, with many of them being forced to close down for extended periods of time. Expensive and inefficient bed bug treatments like building-wide fumigation is often considered to be the only way of dealing with the problem.

However, did you know that it has a marginal success rate? The truth is that building-wide fumigation for bed bugs treatment requires three times as much pesticide as fumigating for other pests, such as termites and ants, in order to be effective, and the pesticide needs to completely saturate the building in order to kill all of the bed bugs. Otherwise, the bed bugs have places to hide until the residue comes off the walls and they are able to infest the building yet again.

Dont give the bed bugs anywhere to hide! Environmental Heat Solutions is a premier provider of one of the few solutions which has been known to consistently work the first time, and it does so using no chemicals. We use Thermal Remediation bed bug heat treatment solutions in order to kill all stages of bed bug in your home. While traditional, chemical-based fumigation can keep you out of your home or place of business for days, even weeks, a Thermal Remediation solution can have you back in your building within 24 hours.

First, the lack of chemicals means that we do not have to wait for pesticide mists to settle. These mists, if inhaled by a human or an animal, can adversely affect health. Thats why, even though there is no work being done by the company, youre not allowed back in the building. However, there is another reason: A Thermal Remediation treatment, from setup to tear-down, takes less labor time than most fumigation services. A full fumigation can itself be labor-intensive, while our heat treatments can be done within a days time.

Thermal Remediation treatments work by elevating the internal temperature of your building to between 120 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit for several hours. Bed bugs and other pests cannot survive such a drastic extreme in heat, and all stages of bed bug will be destroyed within a matter of minutes of constant exposure.

We set up high-powered heaters in strategic places throughout your building, along with fans to move the hot air around and push it into every crack and crevice of the building. The goal is to elevate the entire buildings temperature to no less than this key temperature of 120 degrees Fahrenheit, so that the bed bugs have nowhere to hide. This is how, within a day, we are able to completely eradicate all of the bed bugs from your home.

Dont believe us? No problem! We staff a team of bed bug detection canines who can test your home for the presence of bed bugs before and after your treatment. If you arent sure whether or not you have bed bugs, our canine detection team can rule the possibility out of your mind, or eliminate an infestation before it has the opportunity to take full hold.

Difference between Flea Bites and Bed Bug Bites | MD …

Have you ever gotten out of bed wondering if that red, itchy spot on your legwas froma flea or bed bug? Although it can be difficult to distinguish between flea bites and bed bug bites there are some clues that will help you distinguish between the two. Before we examine the differences between the two bites it is important that we start by taking a separate look at each bite.

Fleas are parasites that obtain nourishment from the blood of their host. Flea bites can easily be confused with ant bites, spider bites, or skin allergies. However there are some clues these pests leave behind to help identify the origin of the bite. One simple way to differentiate between bites is to look at the bite itself. A bite with two puncture marks is most likely from an ant or spider; whereas, a bite with one puncture mark in the center of the bite is most likely from a flea.

There are several symptoms associated with flea bites. Here are the most common symptoms:

Most flea bites can be easily managed at home. The most important part in managing flea bites is being able to resist the urge to scratch the bite. Treat flea bites at home in the following ways:

The key to preventing flea bites is to eliminate the source of the infestation. To do this, pet owners need to treat all pets with flea shampoo or flea spot on treatment liquids. Removing fleas from your home can be difficult because of the following reasons:

To control fleas, treat all carpeted areas and pet bedding with flea insecticide sprays, foggers, or powders. Since flea eggs can live for weeks inside the home or pet bedding, a second treatment is often needed.

If you prefer to treat fleas naturally, begin by washing all clothing, bedding, and pet bedding in hot water. Then dry the materials in the dryer on high heat to help remove the pests and kill the eggs. Next sprinkle borax on the carpeted areas, mattresses, and outdoor areas. Allow the borax powder to sit for several hours and thenremove with a vacuum. It is extremely important that you empty the vacuum bag and remove the vacuum bag from your home to avoid reinfestation. Continue this treatment every week up to one month.

Bed bugs are small, non-flying insects that obtain nourishment from the blood they remove from humans or animals. Although bed bugs can live in furniture and upholstery, they prefer to congregate in beds and bed frames where they feed at night. Bed bugs bites are commonly found on the hands, neck, face, and arms because these areas are more likely to be exposed during sleep. The bumps appear on the skin as flat, small, or raised areas that can become inflamed, itchy, red, or blister.

Often no treatment is required for bed bug bites. However, if the bites itch, youcan treat them with topical steroid creams or oral antihistamines. A course of oral antibiotics may beprescribedto treat an infection that develops at the bed bug site.

Most often an infestation of bed bugs will require a pest-control expert because bed bugs are highly adaptable pests that can live for up to a year without feeding.
