Bed Bug

Heat Treatment

"Now servicing a 3 hour radius of omaha"

The rapid resurgence of the bed bug, Cimex lectularius L., is perhaps the hottest pest management topic of the day. Over the past few years they have caught the nation completely off guard. There has been a 500 percent increase in U.S. bed bug incidents in the last few years, and infestations have risen tenfold since 1996 in parts of London.*

Female bed bugs may lay from 200 to 500 eggs, in batches of 10 to 50. The eggs are covered with a glue and hatch in about 10 days. There are five progressively larger nymphal stages, each require a single blood meal before molting to the next stage. The entire life cycle from egg to adult requires anywhere from 5 weeks to 4 months, depending on temperature. Bed bugs can go without feeding for 80 to 140 days. Adults have survived without food for as long as 550 days. A bed bug can take six times its weight in blood and feeding can take 3 to 10 minutes. Adults live about 10 months and there can be up to 3 to 4 generations of bed bugs per year.** Temperatures of about 120F are lethal to most insects provided they cannot escape to a cooler location.

BED BUGS!!! – Review of Magnuson Hotel Hattiesburg …

My family and I came to Hattiesburg to visit family for thanksgiving and decided to stay at LaQuinta versus our regular hotel that we usually stay in, unfortunately. The hotel smelled of paint which was refreshing since they obviously have renovated recently, however when we got to our room we were HIGHLY disappointed! The bed sheets not only barely fit the bed, but also were the only material covering a BARE mattress. When we sat on the bed the sheet would pop off to expose an old used mattress, which pretty much made my skin crawl. THEN, I replaced the sheet onto the mattress only to have it pop off again-------RELEASING BED BUGS!!!! Needless to say, we jumped up, packed up, and RAN out of the room! I've stayed in many hotels in my life, and never have I had a bed bug experience. YUCK! My husband went to complain and let them know we, of course, wanted a refund. The front desk personnel didn't seem surprised AT ALL, as if they already new that they had a bed bug problem. She apologized and was kind, but again, not surprised in the least, and went on to say that they have new management and trying to get things straight around the hotel. A new manager isn't an excuse for a bed bug problem! Why are they renting those rooms if they KNOW they have bed bugs? STAY AWAY from LaQuinta!

Mother trying to kill bed bugs poisoned her children, officials say

A mother trying to kill bed bugs in her Fort McMurray apartment used an imported pesticide that fatally poisoned her infant and left her other children critically ill.

The substance used in the apartment was a pellet form of phosphine, an agricultural pesticide that is strictly controlled in Canada and requires special training to use.

When exposed to the air, the pellets react with moisture and release phosphine gas, said James Kehrer, a toxicologist at the University of Alberta. As a gas, its often used to fumigate large batches of grain.

It will kill the bed bugs, but its nasty stuff, said Kehrer. Children are more susceptible to these things ... It should only be used by a professional.

The pellets were mainly spread around one bedroom, but fire crews detected the substance throughout the unit, said Brad Grainger, deputy chief of operations for the Fort McMurray fire department.

Its airborne, but its low to the ground, he said. You can imagine children crawling on the ground.

Crews found readings of 4.0 parts per million in the bedroom. Its immediately lethal at 50 parts per million, but can be harmful at 1.0 parts per million after just 15 minutes, he said: There was significant exposure.

The family brought the bottle of phosphine pellets to the hospital when the children fell ill. Authorities were able to contact the womans family in Pakistan to check what the substance was, and then test further to confirm the contents.

The mother used a pesticide to fumigate her apartment last Tuesday that she brought back from Pakistan during a recent trip, said her sister, Shazia Yarkhan.

The womans five children started showing signs of illness Saturday night. They all vomited and one of them had diarrhea, Yarkhan said.

RAID BED BUG AND FLEA KILLER SPRAY Got Bed Bugs …

P Bello - 7 hours ago Here in the US the learning curve has been greatly reduced and increasingly more professional companies are now capable of attaining 100% control with their initial service visit.

Around the rest of the world the learning curve has been addressed through the development of standards which are independent of vested interests and developed to meet the needs of all parties from professionals to home owners and those int he hospitality industry. The US approach of attempting this has not been open and transparent and is widely considered to be something of a joke by the rest of the world.

If as you say more companies are getting 100% control first time then I look forward to the day when the spread of bedbugs starts to reduce but I will not hold my breath for that day.

P Bello - 7 hours ago You continue to site chemical applications and other factors as causation of population dispersal however, it is impossible for a population of zero to disperse.

I continue to see spread of bedbugs as a result of overuse of chemical based products both on a self-treatment and professional basis. Yes its impossible for a population of zero to disperse but its also true that if a population is zero there is no need to use the chemicals either. As chemicals generally take longer than other methods if there are non then no chemicals are needed.

P Bello - 7 hours ago Those who are implementing comprehensive and thorough service protocols are having no problems in resolving bed bug problems for their customers. You're also ignoring Dr. Mike Potter's publication (PCT Magazine) where those pest professionals who had "older chemistries" (i.e. OPs, carbamates & others) available for use in their countries reported bed bug infestations were resolved with little trouble at all using chemical applications.

In countries where carbamates are being extensively used we see extensive issues associated with their use. The most commonly used product in the UK is a carbamate. Your belief that a better chemistry is what is needed also flies in the face of what you are saying about 100% control. They are simply not the best tools to use to do the job with and rather than seeking to build a super-bug completely tolerant to all products we should focus on finding better ways to work.

P Bello - 7 hours ago Overly broad statements inherently cannot successfully address the various exceptions. And, despite the willingness of others to describe and explain viable service protocols on this forum and others, your responses are noticeably weak regarding the "how to" aspects and details of actual bed bug control.

As I stated before our approach is dictated by the circumstances we see in front of us. If you don't make a more specific example that is all I can say as you have not given me enough to work with. With regards broad statements you may want to review your posting past before lambasting others.

P Bello - 7 hours ago This is not rocket science and there are no secrets to doing this work successfully.
