BED BUGS – Review of Victoria Inn, Winnipeg, Manitoba …

Dear Bed Bug: We recognize that this issue is a potential problem every day, and do take it very serious. We as consumers have to remember that a Hotel itself does not have bedbugs; it unfortunately is brought to the hotel by a guest, either through their luggage or cloths. The bigger concern as travellers is how the hotel you are staying in handles this issue should it arise. Our Hotel procedure is to immediately place a room suspected of a problem out of service. The rooms immediately beside and across the hall from the suspect room are also placed out of service. Professionals are called in to evaluate the rooms and confirm or deny the presence. In a case of negative to the problem, further precaution is taken by the suspected room remaining out of service for additional days and then is it reassessed. In a positive case a room will be treated chemically and also baked at 140 degrees to eradicate the issue completely. Unfortunately every small bug or beetle these days is a Bedbug in the eyes of a guest. Regardless whenever there is a suspected case of the bug we do the most responsible thing we can do for the comfort and safety of our guests. Anyone who reads the news today can hardly go a week without hearing a story of the rising issue of bed bugs. This is a problem that is addressing everyone in every industry, from apartments to movie theatres, airlines to hotels.

In addition we would like to comment this was not a confirmed case.

Unfortunately, the crown gem of French Canada is not immune to Bed Bugs. Every year, hundreds of tourists visit the old city, a UNESCO World Legacy Site, and take part in the many winter festivals. But tourism can also bring bed bugs into your home or your business! From a small bed and breakfast to 5 star hotels, no one can predict where Bed Bugs will come from next. Thats why you need fast and accurate inspections.

Bed bugs are common household pests in many parts of the world. Because of their rapid development and ability to reproduce in large numbers in a short time, it is important to know when they are present. Skin irritation caused by bites is just one symptom of infestation. Other signs need to be identified in any place where bed bugs might be breeding. They can inhabit spaces within or below a mattress, but might also be found in old clothing, bedding and padded furniture. Any of these will provide a suitable habitat for bed bugs for as long as there are humans around to feed on.

K9 teams are able to scan rooms in a matter of minutes. This saves your time and money so you can get back to your business or family. In comparison, visual inspections can take hours. Our experts can quickly determine whether you have an infestation and its severity with extreme accuracy.

Fort McMurray Baby’s Death Caused By Pesticide For Bed Bugs

Investigators say the death of a baby and the hospitalization of four other children are linked to high levels of an insecticide found in the family's northern Alberta apartment.

Brad Grainger, deputy chief of operations for the Fort McMurray fire department, said the family brought the insecticide, which is similar to aluminum phosphide pellets used in North America, home from Pakistan, where they were on vacation about 10 days ago.

The pellets, when put into fumigator, emit a phosphine gas, which can be toxic.

"We're not sure how long the family was exposed,'' Grainger said. "The younger that you are, the more susceptible you can be.''

One of the children, an eight-month-old baby, died in hospital and four others were in critical condition Monday. Ages and names were not released.

Grainger didn't say what type of insect the family was trying to kill, but the Edmonton Journal quoted a relative who said it was bed bugs.

Grainger said that type of insecticide is a controlled substance in Canada.

He said an acceptable level of exposure is one part per million over 15 minutes or 0.3 parts per million over eight hours. One room in the apartment had concentrated levels of the insecticide at four parts per million.

"(That's) about four times the average short duration exposure (that's safe),'' he said.
