Specifically The Big Fuss Regarding GMOs?

Being a bed linen and clothes retailer, We believe highly in durability. Recently, somebody asked the actual big offer was about GMOs? You can find a good abundance of good avoid exposing GMOs to the environment or to us through the diets but for me, you can find four main reasons that anyone sitting around the fence should think about:

1 . The finding by Doctor Don Huber, Professor of Plant Pathology at the particular University of Purdue that will there has been an unknown to science seemingly pathogenic micro-organism present in GMO hammer toe and soybeans. It can be the suspicion of these scientists that this micro-organism is new, potentially pathogenic and linked to the Roundup Ready gene.

This kind of news is large given the truth that a) we know NOTHING concerning this micro-organism or its effect on human / animal health insurance and b) it appears directly connected with GMO vegetation. This evidence alone must have caused the USDA in order to at minimum halt the particular process of further approval of GMO seeds till more could be learned. What did the USDA do? Absolutely nothing.

2 . As a scientist me personally, I find the whole process of producing GMO seeds very concerning. Inside simple terms, the procedure entails taking a common soil bacteria, taking plasmid (or DNA) out of that will bacterium plus inserting the genetically constructed plasmid directly into it together with a viral promoter. The genetic modification contains the focus on gene (what trait a person want in order to confer to the plant, be it Bt, RR, etc) and a gun (typically resistance from a particular herbicide or even antibiotic). This particular bacterium is definitely then spread and blended in with regular plant tissue. The entire mix is after that given the specified antiseptic or herbicide (linked to the marker) which may kill the particular genetically modified bacteria plus any herb cells that will did not effectively use up the particular target gene. The herb cells that do survive are today genetically modified thanks to the small bacterium that will acted as the pet carrier. But here is the kicker. However the antibiotic treatment or herbicidal treatment is meant to kill all these genetically changed bacteria, the particular reality can be that it can be very unlikely they will all be killed. In science, we can say that we can never really achieve 100 % destruction of micro-organisms using herbicidal or antibiotic procedures. Some will certainly survive. Therefore , you bring in your GMO seeds to the soil, many of which could be carrying these GMO germs. The GMO bacteria after that escape straight into the earth where they will propagate is to do what these people were designed to complete ie. interfere with new tissues and transfer their hereditary package in order to those tissues indiscriminately. That should cause anyone pause intended for concern.

3. Along with Bt kind GMO plants, there is the really real concern that over time, unwanted pests will develop resistance to Bt crops producing so-called super bugs. This particular super frustrate phenomenon is certainly occurring at the moment.

four. There is also get worried that more than use of Gather can result in evolution associated with glyphosate proof weeds or even super weeds. This extremely weed sensation is happening correct now.

The 4 reasons over are precisely why our business promotes organic clothes produced from naturally harvested cotton.

We might be taking pleasure in reduced pesticide and herbicide use plus increased yields due to GMO crops right now however at exactly what cost? What cost to our health plus environmental surroundings? Additionally, as super bed bugs New Jersey (visit link) and super weeds continue maximizing their numbers, we will most likely view a jump in pesticide / herbicide use since farmers fight this fresh onslaught as well as a following drop within yields. And exactly what will occur then? The particular Monsantos of the globe will no doubt visit our rescue with the new kind of GMO item to fight these brand new super pests and extremely weeds so the cycle will certainly continue.

What Temperature Kills Bed Bugs

November 17th, 2014

Summer is over, fall is here, and now winter is coming. And that means that for most of the country, especially in areas like New York and Connecticut, temperatures are about to take a dive from the heat of summer to the winds of winter. Colder weather also means snow and ice, of course.

You may wonder, since bed bugs seem to multiply during hot summer heat, what the winter weather means for bed bugs. What temperature kills bed bugs, and can bed bugs live in the cold? And is freezing bed bugs a good way to get rid of them? Here is what experts say about the issue:

What temperature kills bed bugs? Colder than most humans can tolerate!

Many people whose home is infested with bed bugs may think that the winter weather taking care of them. However, the reality is that the temperature that will kill bed bugs is much colder than you are going to be able to put up with. So simply opening the windows and doors and freezing bed bugs via cold winter weather simply is not going to cut it.

In fact, according to the University of Minnesota, while cold temperatures actually will kill bed bugs, the cold temperatures need to be at 0 degrees Fahrenheit or below for four days or more in order to facilitate freezing bed bugs. But those are the type of temperatures that are in a freezer, but not in a home, even with the homes windows and doors open. Even putting items infested with bed bugs outside will not take care of them, as temperature fluctuates during the day, and there is no guarantee that the temperature that kills bed bugs will stay that temperature long enough to do it.

In addition, the university notes that when it comes to freezing bed bugs, you can cause severe structural damage to your home by turning off the heat in winter, opening the door, and attempting to kill the bed bugs that way. So do not do it. Instead, contact a bed bug removal specialist to do so.

Can bed bugs live in the cold?

If you have items that are infested with bed bugs, like books, theoretically you could kill the pests off by literally freezing them the Entomological Society of America says you can do this by freezing items in your freezer for four days after sealing them up in zipped plastic bags. That being said, this will not work for many household items, including electronics. In addition, bed bugs frequently hide in places that you cannot put in your freezer, unless you turn your bedroom into a meat locker! Also, most people have plenty of food in their freezer; do they really want to risk infesting their food with bed bugs just for the sake of doing it themselves?

In closing, the temperature that kills bed bugs is simply too cold to facilitate homegrown bed bug measures. So again, if you think you have bed bugs, why not give us a call at 866-984-BUGS? We can either give you immediate peace of mind, or eradicate the issue for you.

Guest wrote; "When I was washing my hands I noticed a few bugs on the sink and around it. Then, my boyfriend and I went to the bed to inspect and well we found quite the few bugs in the bed, all dead. During the evening we couldn't even walk on the floor because it was that filthy, your socks or feet would be black because the floor was that dirty and sticky. So, I ended up wearing shoes for that night and when I would get off the bed I would put them back on. As I was getting ready for bed they were a few critters flying around the bed on landed on the lamps and ceiling (yuck)".

KCK assisted living facility battling bed bugs – KPLC 7 …

KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

A KCK assisted living facility is battling a case of bed bugs.

The Net Giver operates Delaware Highlands Assisted Living, located at North 126th Street and Delaware Parkway, which is a publicly subsidized facility.

The owner of the Net Giver, Jeremy Whitt, says the staff has found bed bugs in three of the residents' rooms, beginning with one room two weeks ago.

"It all depends on the level of severity,"Whitt said about deciding how to handle the situation. "This was a minor incident, and that's not our opinion, but the opinion of (the exterminator) Orkin."

Whitt says the management had Orkin fumigate only the affected room when that first sighting arose. They told maintenance and cleaning staff to keep an eye out but did not inspect other rooms or notify other residents.

"We didn't want to create mass hysteria or confusion with partial information or incomplete information, especially on the first round of this incident," Whitt said.

By Friday staff noticed signs of bedbugs in two adjacent rooms and management stepped up its response, Whitt said.

Monday, Orkin fumigated not just those rooms, but two rooms in every direction on that floor as well as the rooms above and below. Then they began planning how best to inform the rest of the people who live there.

"I didn't know what a bed big looked like so I was kind of curious, said resident Jackie Faught.

Salvation Army Working to Keep Bed Bugs Away …

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Laundry is more than a chore these days at St. Joseph's Salvation Army Shelter.

It's become the frontline in a battle against bed bugs.

The shelter recently had to shut down for three months to wipe out a bed bug infestation. Now that the doors are back open, the shelter is trying to prevent another outbreak by stopping the bugs before they even come through the doors.

"They give you some hospital scrubs, then you take a shower, wash your clothes, run them through the dryer, fold them up, and you're all set," said Barry Meyer who currently lives at the shelter.

But that's just the first line of defense. The shelter also threw out mattresses in an effort to kill the bugs.

"The ones that were damaged were replaced. And, encasements are used now as a preventative measure," said Salvation Army Director Sheila Mendez.

Another preventative measure -- a bed bug sniffing dog. The specially trained dog visits the shelter once a month to help detect if the bugs have returned.

"It just stops and kind of looks up at the handler, like okay, here's one!" said Meyer.

The Salvation Army says its hasn't seen a sign of bed bugs in months.

The organization is now teaming up with Community Action Partnership for a life skills class to teach residents how to protect themselves from bed bugs in and out of the shelter.
