Bedbugs are a difficult pest to kill, as they are resistant to many common insecticides and to all but the most extreme and prolonged cold. They can, however, be killed by exposure to very hot temperatures. According to "The War On Bedbugs" blog, extreme heat kills bed bugs by disrupting their bodies' lipids, affecting their water balance, and damaging their cell structures. Placing infected items in a hot dryer, an oven, or in boiling water should eliminate all bugs present. For objects and areas that can't be treated in this fashion, use a portable space heater.

Dayton Bed Bug and Pest Control | Dayton and Columbus Ohio
Serving the Dayton and Columbus Ohio Areas
Dayton Bed Bug Control is a locally-owned pest control company with a special focus on environmentally-friendly bed bug control. Our family is now in its second generation of providing high-quality pest management services to the people of Dayton, Columbus, and their surrounding areas.
The dramatic rise of bed bugs that we've witnessed in the past decade convinced us that the people of Dayton and Columbus needed a company that would take the time to become experts in all aspects of bed bug elimination.
Bed bugs are unlike any other pest problem, and effective bed bug extermination requires a detailed understanding of their life cycle, biology, and habits. When the "bed bug renaissance" took the pest control industry by surprise, even seasoned exterminators found that they had to "go back to school" and invest in new products and equipment in order to provide high-quality, reliable bed bug elimination.
At Dayton Bed Bug Control, we've made that investment, and now we're ready to serve you with the highest-quality, most effective bedbug-control services available, using environmentally-friendly technology that minimizes or eliminates the need for insecticides.
One of the most exciting services we offer is bed bug control using heat treatment. After years of testing, we've become convinced that for most folks, heat treatment is the preferred method of bed bug control, and we've invested in state-of-the-art, purpose-built, computer-controlled equipment to make sure that it's done right. You can read more about it here, but here's the abridged version of why we like using heat to control bed bugs.
Our family has always been committed to an environmentally-sound approach to pest control commonly known as IPM, or Integrated Pest Management. IPM is a scientific method of pest control that, among other things, seeks to minimize or eliminate the use of pesticides in favor of non-chemical control methods. It actually had its origins in agricultural pest control, but we were early adopters of IPM for structural pest control.
When the "Bed Bug Renaissance" began about a decade ago, it took us all by surprise. Most exterminators in the United States had never even seen a bed bug in real life. We all had to literally go back to school to learn how to kill them. And what we learned was that it took an awful lot of chemicals to effectively eliminate a bed bug infestation.
We didn't like that; and so we started looking for a better way.

Bed Bugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – North Carolina Landlord-Tenant Law
Bed bugs have made a resurgence all over the world and North Carolina has not been immune. This is not a problem that any property owner or manager should take lying down. Below I am posting an e-mail from the Wake County Government about an upcoming Bed Bug informational meeting they are having on October 6, 2010
From: Carla.Piedrahita@wakegov.com [mailto:Carla.Piedrahita@wakegov.com] Subject: Bed Bug Interest Meeting - October 6 - Please RSVP
Wake County Government has observed an increase in the number of reports of bed bugs in the community. While bed bugs do not transmit disease, they can severely impact the quality of life of our citizens. Reported cases of bed bugs seem to be on the rise, but we still believe there is an opportunity to develop education and outreach programs and services that can serve as valuable resources to our citizens to address this problem.
On Wednesday, October 6, 2010, from 10 am until noon, Wake County Government will host a meeting of concerned parties to discuss the issue of bed bugs in our community. The meeting will be held in the Boardroom (344) of the Health Department, located at 10 Sunnybrook Rd in Raleigh (next to WakeMed Hospital). We would like to use the meeting to review and discuss information regarding the current degree of bed bug infestation in the community, public health concerns associated with bed bugs, programs and services that are currently available to citizens to address bed bugs, methods and techniques used to eliminate bed bugs, current research on bed bugs, and lessons learned from other communities. At the conclusion of the meeting, it is anticipated that a series of follow up meetings will be scheduled as part of a plan of work to develop bed-bug related education and outreach programs and services for our citizens.
We are looking forward to meeting you on October 6th. Please RSVP to Carla Piedrahita by replying to this e-mail. If you are unable to make the meeting, or if there is another person from your office that would be more appropriate, feel free to send a representative. Please don't hesitate to call if you have any questions in the meantime.
Thanks for your interest in attending this meeting.

Right now, there's only one surefire way to know if you've got bed bugs -- and it itches like crazy. By the time you notice the lines of red, itching, burning bites, the bugs could have been multiplying in your mattress for days or even weeks. But researchers in Canada have a plan to catch the critters early and make it easier to stop an infestation from spreading.

The Country is Crawling with Blood Suckers. Find Out Who's the Worst
A team of biologists and chemists at Simon Fraser University have identified for the first time a chemical scent that will lure bed bugs out of furniture and into traps. They published their research on the attractive pheromones in the chemistry journal Angewandte Chemie.
"The biggest challenge in dealing with bed bugs is to detect the infestation at an early stage," said Gerhard Gries, one of the biologists who has spent years on the project. "This trap will help landlords, tenants, and pest-control professionals determine whether premises have a bed bug problem, so that they can treat it quickly. It will also be useful for monitoring the treatment's effectiveness."

Don't Let These Bloodsuckers Get You!
Bed bugs were largely eradicated ages ago, but in the last decade they have reemerged in plague-like proportions around the world. Cities across the U.S. have seen infestations in homes, hotels, movie theaters and designer stores.
And once you've got bed bugs, they're very hard to get rid of -- but very easy to pass around.
