CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A Friday afternoon inspection of Cleveland Fire Station No. 40uncovered no bed bugs.

City spokesman Daniel Williams said on Monday that a pest-sniffing dog detected no bed bugs in the East Side station where a common room remained sealed for two weeks following a reported bed bug sighting.

"The dog sniffed and found nothing," Williams said. "The station was declared clean and clear."

Ehrlich Pest Control, the city's contracted exterminator, ignored multiple requests to check the station since the Sept. 26 sighting because the city owed the company thousands of dollars for past services, Williams said.

An Ehrlich exterminator finally visited the station on the 18900 block of St. Clair Avenue on Friday afternoon after the Division of Fire settled a nearly $2,200 debt, according to the city.

Thirteen city departments owe Ehrlich a total of more than $12,000 as of Monday morning, Williams said, adding that those debts are expected to be paid in full by Wednesday.

The Department of Public Health has the greatest debt, owing the company more than $5,800. The Division of Policeowes more than $5,500, according to the city.

The city is investigating why several departments are late on bills. The city can afford the payments, Williams said.

Witnesses claim Department of Children and Families office in KCK has chronic bed bug issue

KANSAS CITY, Kan. A bed bug infestation at the Department of Children and Families office in Kansas City, Kansas, forced the building to be closed on Thursday.

Management says the problem has been taken care of and they are again open for business as of Friday.

However there was lots of skepticism among the employees FOX 4 talked to. One employee who has worked at DCF for almost eight years asked us to hide her identity because she is scared of the repercussions of speaking out about what she calls a chronic bed bug problem at this DCF office.

I was very uncomfortable, said the woman about how she felt about going into work on Friday.

This DCF employee says Thursdays bed bug infestation was caused by a client who had been sitting in the lobby for a few hours. She said she saw the bugs falling off of him.

The woman showed FOX 4 a copy of an email she says the employees received just after 2:30 p.m. Thursday saying the building was closing because of bed bugs, and exterminators were coming in.

This worker says she doesnt trust the problem has been taken care of because this is not the first time they have had a bed bug issue. Two weeks ago, a worker complained about the very same thing.

She saw them jumping off of her, the wall, the table, her desk, thats how she saw them. So she sent in a ticket to let them know that there were bed bugs, said the woman about the worker who saw the bed bugs.

It was reported to the ticketing system that there was a bed bug issue in one of the interview rooms where the employee did state that she saw them all over the place, said Michael Hilson, a former employee of the DCF.

Hilson was the one who received that ticket, or complaint. He worked at DCF for 10 years until he resigned on Wednesday.
