Report of bed bugs in Butler County court
Hearings scheduled for an Oxford courtroom this afternoon are being diverted to Butler County Area II Court due to a report of bed bugs allegedly in the courtroom.
Butler County Prosecutor Michael Gmoser said he received a report that bugs, possibly bed bugs, were at the defense table in Butler County Area I Court in Oxford.
The court administrator needs to determine if there is a bed bug problem, Gmoser said. If it is determined it is bed bugs, I dont want my staff there exposed to it.
Area I Judge Robert Lyons held court this morning in Oxford, but at the courts request the afternoon docket has been moved to Area II Court in Hamilton, according to court employee Chrystal Hershner. The court administrator is not in today, she said.
Lyons said someone reported seeing a bed bug in the court and they contacted the city of Oxford, which owns the building.
It was going to be several hours before they could get their with exterminators to check it out, so we took the high road, Lyons said. Cases not already called on the morning docket were given a continuance, the judge said.
The judge said there is no confirmation yet what type of bug was seen. He said there should be a determination by Friday.

Ways to stop a bed bug infestation from getting to you …
Locally, Denver County Department of Environmental Health says it's the number one complaint it gets although it hasn't seen an increase in the overall number of complaints about bed bugs this year.
But these bugs aren't just a bed problem. They are traveling more and in some cases, even going all the way to the movie theater.
Just this month, a confirmed invasion at an AMC movie theater in New York's Times Square caused health officials to shut it down. A moviegoer was bitten by one or more bed bugs while she was in her seat.
The viewer, Kathryn Prior, said, "I was watching the movie and all of a sudden my whole arm got itchy. And I started scratching and these huge bumps and red welts appeared."
Bed bugs were spotted in that same theater just two weeks earlier and at other locations in upper Manhattan. AMC is taking this threat seriously and doing what it can to rid its theaters of these bugs.
In an e-mail response to NBC, the company said: "We will continue to vigorously inspect our theaters and instantly treat any bed bug detections."
In Connecticut, bed bugs climbed the pole inside a firehouse; in Pennsylvania, an infestation occurred inside a classroom, and last year in Colorado bed bugs were found in a library. Other recent examples include outbreaks in a New York Victoria's Secret store and at an Abercrombie and Fitch.
This is most likely happening because bed bugs are multiplying and getting carried in to these establishments by unsuspecting customers.
"Many of them ride so that you deposit them in a department store, you deposit them in a movie theater, in a play house, etc. So they are pretty mobile with you," Dr. Philip Tierno from NYU's Langone Medical Center said.
Bed bugs are tiny insects that feed off human blood. They are big enough to see with your naked eye, but you have to look closely enough to spot them. They usually hide out during the day and feed at night. That's why most bites happen in bed while you are sleeping.

Nevada Bedbug Laws | Pest Control Las Vegas NV
Last year some 40 million tourists flocked to Las Vegas for some fun and gambling in the desert. While most of these tourists are worried about not losing a fortune at the black jack table; there is another worry Las Vegas tourists should be concerned aboutthe blood sucking bedbugs.
If you happen to contract bedbugs from a Las Vegas hotel; or if you are a tenant or property manager battling a bedbug infestation; its important to know what the bedbug laws are in the State of Nevada.
Bedbug infestations continue to rise across much of the United States, and the State of Nevada is not exempt form these tiny hitchhiking pests. Currently, the city of Las Vegas is the 46th ranked bedbug infested city in the country. While these numbers are drastically improved, down 30 spots from last years ranking, bedbugs are still a problem in the city.
Currently, there are 22 States in the U.S. with bedbug laws. As of 3/2013, there are two bedbug laws in the books for the state of Nevada. With proposed bedbug legislation being brought to the table on a frequent basis, these laws can change. They are as follows:
Any room in any hotel in Nevada that is infested with bedbugs shall be thoroughly fumigated, disinfected and renovated until such bedbugs are entirely exterminated.
In a camp, proper bedbug prevention measures must be taken.

In recent years bed bugs have made a big comeback worldwide. They are especially bad in the mid-Atlantic area. Much of the blame for their resurgence as a pest has been globalization. People travel more internationally and more goods are shipped around the world than ever. Not only are bed bugs a problem in places such as hotels and hostels, but also in homes, hospitals, college dorms, and airports. It is important to familiarize yourself with what they look like, where to look for them, and what to do should you find them.
Bed bugs are insects that feed on blood. They are not known to transmit diseases. There are two types of bed bugs that may be found in association with people: the common bed bug, Cimex lectularius and the bat bug Cimex pilosellus.
If you are travelling, check around the edges of the mattress, for blood spots, look under the edge of the head board, using a flash light if possible. Bed bugs tend to hide in areas that are not disturbed. Never put suitcases on the floor or under the bed. If you find them in your home or residence, do a thorough inspection of the area. Get rid of clutter! It is important to arm yourself with as much information as possible.
