Bed Bugs Infest New Bredfor Bank
As you could easily tell by the high number of reports about them, bed bugs have become even more prevalent these past few years. Now, they are common not just in houses and hotels. Theyve expanded their coverage becoming a familiar yet unpleasant sight in many unexpected places. And this recent news about a New Bedford bank being infested by them is one proof that.
That bank the critters reportedly overran was the Santander Bank located at Union Street. A company supervisor described the infestation in it as very extensive.
The complaints about the bed bugs in the said building have already resulted to several visits from pest exterminators. It also prompted an inspection from the city health office in mid-January. However, citys health director Dr. Brenda Weis said that no evidence of the pest was seen in the bank.
Despite that, Weis stated that Santander had sprayed their office five times already. Moreover, they offered to their 110 employees a spray treatment for their residences.
Besides the city health, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration also looks into the banks response to the issue as it also received a bed bug complaint, one of its officials stated.

Complaints of a bed bug infestation at the Santander Bank building on Union Street resulted in several visits by exterminators and a city health inspection in mid-January, city documents show.
A company supervisor confirmed that the facility did in fact have a very extensive infestation of what pest control professionals have identified as bed bugs, according to the New Bedford Health Departments official investigation report.

Chicago Tops Bed Bug Cities List for Second Consecutive Year
Chicago tops the 2013 Bed Bug Cities List, released by pest control leader Orkin. The Windy Citys bed bug problem was serious enough that the City Council passed an ordinance in July 2013 requiring condo associations to have a formal management plan in place for the detection, inspection and treatment of these pests.
In the South, two major cities had the biggest jumps on the list from 2012 to 2013 Nashville moved up 17 spots while Charlotte climbed 18 spots. Other cities that made notable leaps up the list include Champaign/Springfield, Ill., Pittsburgh and Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville, S.C. On the other end of the spectrum, Omaha, Neb., Colorado Springs/Pueblo, Colo., Lexington, Ky. and Buffalo, N.Y. settled into significantly lower spots on the list than last year. Of the five new cities on the list, three are in the Midwest Toledo, Ohio, Peoria, Ill. and Davenport, Iowa/Moline, Ill. New Orleans and Kansas City took the final two spots on the list as new entries. On the east coast, six cities took positions lower on the list, including three cities in New York Albany, Buffalo and New York City.
Bed bugs continue to bite their way across the country as evidenced by the more than 20 percent increase in Rollins, Orkins parent company, bed bug business compared to 2012. The nationwide resurgence of the bed bug population prompted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to release a joint statement in 2012 advising the public of the emerging health issues associated with bed bugs.
While studies show that bed bugs do not spread disease, the physical and mental health consequences are well documented and of serious public concern, says Orkin entomologist and technical services director Ron Harrison, PhD. Once bed bugs are inside your home or business, they can reproduce quickly and can travel from place to place in personal belongings and even on people. They can also move from place to place on their own, independently of objects.
Because every bed bug scenario is different, its important for homeowners to call on a professional who can create a solution tailored to their homes needs.
The list released by Orkin ranks the cities by the number of bed bug treatments Orkin performed from January to December 2013, along with any shift in ranking compared to January to December 2012.

Harrison offers the following tips to homeowners for bed bug prevention: - Inspect your home for signs of bed bugs regularly. - Decrease clutter around your home this will make bed bug inspections and detection much easier. - Dry potentially infested bed linens, curtains and stuffed animals on the hottest temperature allowed for fabric. - Before bringing second-hand furniture into your home, closely inspect it for any signs of bed bugs and quarantine it for a period of time before bringing it into your rooms. Also, keep in mind that there is always a potential for bed bug activity, even if you dont find any signs.

How to Spot and Control Bed Bugs
Orillia Today
Bed bugs can be hard to see but if theyre in your home it wont be long till you feel their presence. Bed bug bites can develop into painful, itchy welts and, for the more sensitive people, can even lead to anaphylaxis. Allergens from bed bugs have also been associated with asthmatic reactions. TK Pest Control in Orillia and Muskoka, Ontario, has been helping rid homes of pests such as bed bugs since 2000. Heres how you can determine if bed bugs are in your home.
The first sign that you have bed bugs in your home is often bites. You usually dont feel the bite until some time later, when the skin becomes irritated and inflamed. Small, swollen welts can develop at the site of the bites, which can be accompanied by itching, often severe. The itching can last hours or several days. People who are very sensitive to the bites may need to visit a doctor.
If you think youre being bitten by bed bugs, there are telltale signs youll find in your home. Look for blood stains or rusty spots of bug excrement on sheets and mattresses, bed clothes, and walls. You can also look for eggshells and shed skins near hiding spots.
While bed bugs usually stay close to their food source, they can travel up to 100 feet to feed so you need to check any small cracks or crevices where they can hide. Begin by checking the bed, including mattress seams, the box spring, the bed frame, and headboard. Then carefully examine baseboards around the bedroom, outlets, cracks in walls, and even peeling wallpaper.
Bed bugs are hardy pests and can live at least a year without eating a blood meal. Travellers often carry them in their suitcases and clothes so they are easily passed on to others. Once bed bugs are brought into your home, it can quickly develop into an infestation as females lay about 300 eggs, which then hatch in less than 21 days.
For help detecting and exterminating bed bugs in the Orillia and Muskoka areas, please contact TK Pest Control via phone. In Muskoka call (705) 687-9477, in Orillia call (705) 325-8239 or toll-free at (877) 325-8239. The company provides professional workmanship that you can trust. You can also follow them on Facebook!

Bed Bugs Pester Ohio Library, My Cleaning Products Recommends a Bed Bug Spray To Get Rid of Them Immediately
Columbus, OH (PRWEB) February 11, 2014
Bed bugs were reportedly traced in Mansfield/Richland County Public Library in Ohio. And responding to it, My Cleaning Products suggested a pesticide-exempt bed bug spray to help anyone dealing with the same problem kill the pest immediately.
A report from mainsfieldnewsjournal.com, published on February 08, 2014, said that the traces of the critters were found in the children and the adult departments of the library. And as it detailed, particularly, they were detected in the upholstered benches, books and magazines in those sections of the facility.
To get rid of the critters, the report related that the benches were destroyed and then replaced with wooden chairs. Meanwhile, the books and magazines, it added, were treated before they were returned.
As it also related, the bed bug issue in the building started in November or December of last year. It detailed that one bed bug was found in a book returned, which was then contained and treated.
Here is a part of the post Library Goes Head to Head With Bed Bugs by My Cleaning Products.
Bed bugs are loving the libraries. As a report has it, they infested yet another one recently. And that is the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library in Ohio.
Traces of the critters were found in the facility in three instances already. But initially, they were detected back in November or December when one of them was found in a returned material. To contain the pest in it, it was said that the book was put in a zipped plastic bag and was later treated in high heat.
According to MCP, the fact that bed bugs are becoming common even in libraries is an indication that they are now more prevalent. Because of that, it warned the public of their possible presence. And to protect themselves from them, it also gave out two advises.
Firstly, the company advised everyone to take preventive measures. It said that there is now an even higher risk of anyone picking up those vampire-like pests anywhere, hence, the steps are necessary to block their entry.
