Relief Organizations Worry Sandy Clothing Donations Would Start Bed Bug Epidemic; Bed Bug Removal Guide Advises …

One report said that clothing donations to Sandy victims could lead to bed bug epidemic. Wanting to help prevent that, Bed Bug Removal Guide advised the storm-affected residents to prepare a safe and effective bed bug spray.

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 06, 2012

As said in the International Business Times report, many people were willing to donate clothes for Sandy victims in need. However, there was a problem. Bed bugs could hitchhike on donated clothes and trigger a massive infestation. Because of that, the report shared that relief organizations as the American Red Cross and United Way don't take clothing donations anymore. Instead, it said that they encouraged the public to donate money.

Stating that bed bugs are small and sneaky, Bed Bug Removal Guide said that they could indeed hitchhike on donated clothes unnoticed and cause a bed bug epidemic. And as it said, that will definitely give Sandy victims another problem.

However, although relief organizations already stopped taking clothing donations, it said that Sandy victims could still suffer from bed bug presence. That's because of the evacuations of the many victims to temporary housing facilities. It explained that the high population and traffic on those places could easily transfer bed bugs from one person to another.

Because of that, Bed Bug Removal Guide advised Sandy victims to prepare a bed bug spray. Particularly, it advised them to ready a Bed Bug Bully.

It said that to anybody, Bed Bug Bully is the best bed bug treatment help as it is both effective and safe. Unlike other bed bug products, it stated that it is made with organic ingredients and has passed several federal programs and guidelines as pesticide-exempt.

Additionally, it said that many pest-control companies and homeowners have already proven that Bed Bug Bully safely and effectively works. And so, Bed Bug Removal Guide urged the Sandy-affected residents and all the other bed bug victims to pick it over others. To prove that themselves, it even encouraged them to try the complimentary sample its manufacturer is giving out.

Based on the report, federal health officials were alarmed of the growing number of pesticide misuse cases. From year 2006 until 2010, 129 people reportedly suffered from mild to serious health effects of using outdoor pesticides inside their houses. And as it was added, one woman died because of it.

Due to the said alarming pesticide misuse rate, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry issued an advisory about it earlier this week.

Meanwhile, wanting to help ease the anxiety over the rise of bed bug cases so people won't resort to pesticide misuse, Spray for Bed Bugs advised the public to get a Bed Bug Bully. Spray for Bed Bugs stated that Bed Bug Bully is organic-based. Apart from that, it related that it has passed several federal programs and guidelines as a pesticide-exempt bed bug product. Magical Pest Control announces subsidiary company Magical Restoration and expands into the Canadian mold restoration …

TORONTO, Nov. 28, 2012 /CNW/ - Magical Restoration the newest division of Magical Pest Control, introduces an innovative new mold treatment to the Canadian mold and disaster restoration industry.

After successfully using patented ThermaPureHeat technology to exterminate bed bugs across Ontario, Magical has opened a new division focused on using this innovative technology to eliminate mold in residential and commercial properties.

"ThermaPureHeat has proven to be an eco-friendly and efficient method of treating mold and water damage, as well as lingering odours. As such, it is the chosen method of treatment that will be used by Magical Restoration," says Mark Joseph, President and Founder of Magical Restoration.

ThermaPureHeat kills bacteria and harmful pathogens using a non-invasive process called structural pasteurization. This heat-based process allows Magical Restoration to eliminate harmful properties of mold without causing damage to a home or business, ensuring that the property remains as unaffected as possible during the mold elimination process. This heat process has also been proven to sterilize and eliminate dampness. Due to its drying properties, ThermaPureHeat helps prevent future mold development by drying damp areas that are prone to growing mold. This two-pronged approach, involving the elimination of mold and prevention of future growth, is what makes ThermaPureHeat such a powerful and effective treatment.

Magical Restoration pairs ThermaPureHeat technology with Calbrite, an eco-friendly, industry-leading cleaning solution. Calbrite's gentle but effective formula allows Magical Restoration's trained mold extraction teams to remove every last trace of mold residue after the heat treatment process is completed.

With ThermaPureHeat and Calbrite, Magical Restoration is committed to offering the best and safest mold removal and remediation treatments available. This commitment extends to hiring highly-trained technicians and offering effective treatments that contribute to a sustainable planet. Both ThermaPureHeat and Calbrite are certified as environmentally-friendly. Fungus may take bite out of bedbugs

As bedbugs continue their bloodsucking scourge on Toronto currently targeting Ryerson University residences a new U.S. study shows that natural fungus is an effective way of killing the critters.

There are eight confirmed cases of bedbugs at Ryerson, with most students living at the International Living and Learning Centre (ILLC) and a few in the Pitman Hall residence.

The rooms are being carefully treated by pest control experts, said Chad Nuttall, manager of student housing services at the university. They will inspect and reinspect the rooms until they are bedbug-free.

Affected students have been relocated to a temporary space in the ILLC while their rooms are treated, which usually takes two weeks but can be longer depending on the severity of the situation.

Our students are our top priority and we are working very hard to resolve this issue for them and have them back into their dorms as soon as possible, Nuttall said.

The university provides information to students and parents on bed bug prevention during parent sessions, Nuttall said.

But new research could end the battle against bedbugs. According to a team of entomologists at Penn State University, the parasites have met their match in a fungus called Beauveria bassiana, which grows naturally in soils and causes disease in insects.

As part of the study, published in the Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, researchers used paper and cotton jersey, commonly used in bedsheets. On one set they sprayed fungal spores, a biopesticide, and on the other blank oil.

After the surfaces were dry, bedbugs were added for one hour.

All the bugs exposed to the biopesticide died within five days. More importantly, infected bugs carried the fungal spores back to their hiding places, infecting nearly all of the other bugs.

Oshawa library treated for bed bugs

Oshawa library treated for bed bugs. OSHAWA -- There have been reports that bed bugs were discovered in the McLaughlin Branch of the Oshawa Public Library. November 21, 2012 Jason Liebregts / Metroland

Lots of libraries have been having this issue, we've been fortunate not to have this problem until recently. Margaret Wallace

Margaret Wallace, manager of customer and circulation services at the Oshawa Public Libraries, said a program was underway at the branch on Nov. 15 when a participant noticed a bed bug on their person at the McLaughlin Branch, 65 Bagot St.

"The staff have been trained to identify them, so the staff member immediately took the appropriate action, got everyone to check themselves," said Ms. Wallace.

All the participants were advised to throw their clothes in the dryer on high heat for 30 minutes when they got home.

"We closed the room down and we called our pest control company in to do a completed identification, which we did, and we treated the room and it's going to reopen tomorrow," she said on Nov. 21.

A sweep of the McLaughlin Branch the previous month had not identified bed bugs.

The Oshawa library has a bed bug protocol for dealing with the issue and in October a professional exterminator and a bed-bug sniffing dog inspected the city's four library branches.

"It was hard to get the dog, she's from Kitchener, and she's very busy," said Ms. Wallace.

There were no bed bugs found at the Jess Hann or the McLaughlin branches, but two chairs were identified at the Legends branch. The chairs were bagged and treated. The dog also sniffed at a wall area at the Northview branch and it was treated as a precaution.
