Bed bugs had long been infesting the US mainland. New York and Cincinnati are among their top city destinations. However, it seems that the blood-sucking pests have plans of taking over the world as they had also been discovered in Guam just recently.

A Guam entomologist has said that the first bed bug incident in the island happened in 2007. After that, reported bed bug cases continuously increased in the following years.

It is believed that the pests found their way to Guam through the travelers. And because they are known for a lot of not-so-good things, officials are afraid that they will scare potential tourists away. To counter that, the islands Public Healths Division of Environmental Health Supervisor seeks cooperation among various local departments and associations.

Additionally, a database of reported bed bug infestation is also on the work to get a scope of the problem about the pests. Trainings for hotel housekeepers to identify the pests are also being conducted.

Its been a major problem in large cities like New York and Cincinnati in the U.S. mainland, but now it seems the pesky problem has made its way to Guam. Some visitors to the island might have some locals losing sleep.

Sleep tight and dont let the bed bugs bite is a saying most of us are familiar with. But now the question is should island residents be sleeping tight or worrying about bed bugs biting? The parasite that feasts on human blood has made it way to Guam. Dr. Aubrey Moore is an extension entomologist at the University of Guam and said, The first incident that I know of occurred in 2007 we had one indication that bedbugs were here on island and then the year after there were a few more and the year after that a few more.

Dr. Moore says currently they are getting about one detection of bed bugs per month. Public Healths Division of Environmental Health Supervisor Rosanna Rabago says cooperation is needed to fight against a spreading infestation, saying, What we wanted to do is establish some sort of partnership amongst all the stakeholders from the University, the Cooperative Extension Services, the Guam Hotel Restaurant Association the pest control companies, Public Health, the Guam EPA, everybody has a vested interest in this in one way or the other.

Bed Bug Detection and Extermination :: Springer Home Services

Discover why Springer Bed Bug Services is the only pest control company you want to handle your bed bug infestation.

Yes, this dreaded bug has returned to Iowa cities with a vengeance. If you're in Des Moines, you may have recently heard about the yearlong battle in two downtown buildings, the Elsie Mason Manor and the Ligutti Tower. The building owners spent a year spraying chemicals and wasting countless time and money trying to rid the apartments of bed bugs. Nothing seemed to work. In the end, it was a powerful, less common technique that finally got the job done. This same method can and should be used to exterminate YOUR home or business!

Springer Bed Bug Services technicians use this natural pest control method as a safe, non-toxic solution that eradicates bed bugs using only the exclusive and 100% effective RxHeat system.

Because bed bugs in any stage of development cannot survive in temperatures above 113F, Springer's eco pest control system heats a structure's interior between 135F and 150F degrees for the relatively short time it takes to exterminate bed bugs, including those in tiny crevices.

Environmentally safe, the RxHeat process uses no chemicals, only heat, to exterminate bedbugs and their eggs. And because RxHeat can be effective in a single extermination treatment, it can be more cost effective than chemical alternatives. The beauty of this type of treatment is that it doesn't chase the bedbugs away... it actually attracts them to the heaters.

Unlike chemical solutions, heat does not have any residual effects. This allows the hotel, apartment building, or home to be inhabited immediately following the bed bug extermination treatment and cleaning. This gives the home or business owner peace of mind knowing that there will not be any toxicity issues to deal with.

Springer has earned the coveted QualityPro designation, issued by the National Pest Management Association. This leading trade organization sets the highest business practice standards for the pest control industry. Only a company that has met and maintains these strict standards - as judged by QualityPro - may call itself a QualityPro-approved service provider.

Residential & Commercial Pest Management:

If you're looking for an exterminator in Des Moines, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Fort Dodge, Mason City or almost anywhere in Iowa, let Springer Bed Bug Services handle your bed bug situation and rest easy knowing that the job will be done right!

Study Identifies Most Effective Natural Bed Bug Killer

New Brunswick, NJ (PRWEB) June 13, 2013

A study was conducted by the Rutgers University Entomology Lab recently comparing effectiveness between some most seen over-the-counter products and identified EcoRaider, a product provided by Reneotech Inc, as the top bed bug killer among 11 other brands. This study highlights the effectiveness of this all-natural bed bug spray and provides an alternative for synthetic pesticides being used inside a home.

The Rutgers Entomology Laboratory, one of the most renowned in the country, conducted two sequential experiments analyzing the effectiveness of each spray on a number of bed bugs from a pre-determined distance. As reported in Pest Control Technology, "EcoRaider caused 100 percent mortality after 10 days in both tests."

With the expense of heat and steam treatments often the only alternatives pursued by homeowners, an effective and safe do-it-yourself solution to complement or replace such costly efforts has been pursued. With many products on the market making unsupported claims and with limited government regulation, the need for a scientific study was necessary to clarify which products are truly effective.

"We have worked tirelessly on the formulation of our product," said Vincent Yancoskie, the EcoRaider spokesperson. The fact that we have strict FDA GRAS compliance ensures the user that all ingredients are natural or safe cosmetic grade. And this study confirms its effectiveness."

In addition, the Federal Trade Commission has grown increasingly concerned about unsubstantiated claims from bed bug sprays both in terms of their alleged effectiveness and their safety claims. This resulted in fines of several hundred thousand dollars administered by the FTC. One manufacturer even claimed their spray created an "invisible barrier" against future infestations.

Bed bugs have been a growing public health pest in recent years, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Consumers plagued with bed bugs experience considerable stress, discomfort, and expense in attempting to rid themselves of these pests, and many are unaware of the complex measures needed to prevent and control them, according to the EPA.

Now in addition to the pain and discomfort of a bed bug infestation, add the liability. According to a report from New York Daily News posted on June, 3rd, a jury in Maryland last week awarded $800,000 to a tenant who proved that her landlord did not treat the problem properly and harassed her when she complained.

Bed bugs continue to be major problems, mainly in cities where they can be carried to new apartments and homes nearby quickly. Whether they are traveling on their own or hitching a ride on clothing, bedding or furniture, bed bug infestations have grown to epic proportions over the last several years. Despite treatment by pesticides, steam and heat, they persist. Therefore the search for a reliable, effective treatment alternative has been actively pursued.

EcoRaider was created under the call for such demand. Its core ingredients include extracts from multiple aromatic plants that have natural insecticidal power and other safe content that is used in many cosmetic products. Safe as it is, yet it works powerfully on bugs.

What are Bed Bugs?

Bed Bugs are "true bugs" that take blood meals mainly from humans, but will feed on other mammals. Generally Bed Bugs feed at night, but have been found to feed and be active during the day, usually near where a person may sleep or rest for long periods of time. The human Bed Bug or Cimex lectularius is the most commonly found species in homes, apartment buildings, hotels, etc. and can be found almost anywhere people inhabit. Bed Bug complaints and calls for information have been on the rise since the late 90's and are expected to increase as these insects are proliferating and disseminating at a rapid rate.

Adult Bed Bugs are large enough to see with the naked eye. They have oval-shaped bodies, when unfed, and range from 1.5 mm to 6 mm long (see Life Cycle below). Bed Bugs have a short broad head, flat thorax, and no wings. Despite having no wings, they can crawl quickly over floors, walls and ceilings. Bed Bugs can not jump or fly. Prior to feeding, they are flat; however, after feeding with their piercing sucking type mouthparts, they turn dark red and appear elongated and bloated.
