Maryland Bed Bugs | MD Bedbug Extermination

Bed bugs can be a persons worst nightmare - literally. They bite, leaving behind red, blotchy marks that itch like crazy. You may have been bitten in the middle of the night and not even realized who the culprit was. It is usually the bite marks that alert people to Maryland bed bugs, but it is much more than just a bite that needs to be examined.

You may never actually see bed bugs in Maryland, but that does not mean that they are not there. They can hide in the fibers of your mattress and box spring. They come out at night to feed. You can see the doctor about your bite, but they are not going to be able to tell you with 100% certainty that it is a bed bug.

You have to find more evidence. You can rip off all of your sheets and still not find any. Go ahead and toss the sheets in a hot dryer for about 20 or 30 minutes. That will at least kill any that may be in your sheets - for now. If you see the bug, it is going to be a small black circular critter that is flat and very small. You may also see the fecal marks on the side of your mattress or box spring. These will be dark red or black marks that is actually partially digested blood that has dried or been discarded.

At that point, it is official - you have bed bugs in your bed. There are a few home remedies, but they do not really work because it is a temporary solution. Bed bugs can live for weeks without feeding so you need something more powerful.

Bed bugs in Maryland hotels probably found their way into your home through luggage or a friend and now you have got to get rid of them. You are going to need to call an exterminator to get them out of your house because the chemicals need to be strong to actually kill them. Some strains of bed bugs have actually become tolerant of household chemicals, so a Maryland bed bug extermination company uses much harsher products that are better than what you would get over the counter.

A bed bug can be a very bad thing, so when you want to make sure they are truly dead and not just napping for a few days, call a bed bug exterminator and have them out of your home so you can sleep peacefully.

Ted Siefer's City Hall It was a week of spice, bed bugs, abandoned buildings, gambling

HIRSCHMANN

THE quote-of-the-week award goes to Ward 12 Alderman Keith Hirschmann. "There are a lot of scourges, a lot of things to worry about in the city," he told members of the Administration Committee on Tuesday.

True, and city officials took aim at several of these scourges last week: spice (a.k.a. synthetic pot), abandoned buildings, bed bugs and, at least in the view of Hirschmann, poker machines.

Hirschmann launched a crusade against the devices after it was revealed earlier in the summer that a West Side pizza shop that was the target of drug bust had apparently relied on the machines for revenue far more than fresh slices.

After meeting with police officials and the city clerk, Hirschmann drew up detailed amendments to the ordinance governing "amusement devices," which he presented to the committee on Tuesday.

The amendments had two main components. One would raise the current $2,000 annual permit fee by $500, with the additional revenue going to a special account to support the investigative work required to prove a poker machine is being used for gambling. The other would require criminal background checks for permit seekers.

CRAIG

The machines, in case you haven't heard, generate about $240,000 annually for the city.

It's safe to say most of the aldermen haven't been too receptive to the several ideas put forward by Hirschmann, one of the board's two Republicans, since he rejoined the board this year. But his ordinance had a good hearing, even if the committee's chairman, Alderman Joyce Craig, was skeptical.

Bed bugs on the rise in eastern Iowa

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Bed bugs are on the rise in eastern Iowa.

The city of Dubuque's housing inspector, Bob Boge, said bed bugs are a regular problem, whereas they weren't when he started in his position some five years ago. He estimates the city now receives about 15 unique bed bug complaints per year.

Bed bugs are small insects that feed on human blood and leave itchy, red welts. They often come out to feed at night and hide during the day in the crevices of mattresses and furniture.

Boge recommends people be leery of buying used furniture at a secondhand store and that people who buy clothing at a garage sale or thrift shopput those clothes - dry - into a dryer for a full, high-heat cycle so the heat can kill any bedbugs that might be there.

Ecumenical Tower in downtown Dubuque is now bed bug-free, but that wasn't the case just one month ago.

Matthew Roddy is housing director for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Dubuque, which owns and operates Ecumenical Tower, a non-profit apartment building for seniors and adults with special needs.

Each of the building's 88 apartments gets inspected twice a year for any pests or unclean living conditions, Roddy said. The most recent inspection, in August, revealed evidence of bed bugs in three units.

"This is all new to us," Roddy said. "This is the first time we've had to deal with this, as a building."

Ecumenical Tower was built more than 40 years ago.

California Bed Bug Laws Help Renters | Sterns Chatter

January 7th, 2013

As many people have experienced first-hand, bed bug infestations can be a tremendous burden to deal with for homeowners and renters alike. Because of the variances in laws in different states, it is wise for renters and landlords to know what their responsibilities are when it comes to dealing with bed bugs or other insects that renters may encounter during their tenancy.

The State of California has developed a new website that spells out the rights of California renters. One of the issues that continue to plague renters is bed bug infestations. In California, renters have the right to live in a home that is fit to live in. This means that it meets the state and local building and health codes and that a home or unit be safe so as to not affect your health or safety.

It is not uncommon for landlords and tenants to disagree on who is responsible for pest problems that occur within a rental property. Battles that have ensued have resulted in new regulations being created in many different states.Problems with bed bugs, cockroaches, vermin, ants, and spiders are specifically addressed as being unacceptable for renters to live with in California.

Renters in California have responsibilities when it comes to avoiding these types of home invaders. They must keep their homes clean so that it remains unattractive to pests. In addition, if a problem exists, they are required to notify their landlord and request that an exterminator rid the rental unit of the problem creatures.

Landlords have 30 days to respond to the tenants request for help in eliminating pests. If the landlord is unresponsive or if the pest infestation is severe, California renters may use up to two months rent in a 12 month span of time to seek out their own licensed pest control professional to eradicate the home invaders.
