Bad Bed Bugs: Photos of Bites with Infestation Treatment Help

Bed bugs are excellent at hiding and can fit into spaces as narrow as your business card; they wait there to attack when youre in a deep sleep and most vulnerable. This website is full of images that show you exactly what they look like, what can happen when they attack you in numbers, how to treat bites and most importantly, how to locate and kill these blood suckers yourself using inexpensive products.

We also have a very popular checklist that will walk you through the process of identifying infestations in hotel rooms. A few simple precautions can help you find these elusive bugs and prevent the nightmare from ever happening in the first place!

We receive a ton of complaints about infants being attacked while sleeping and this photo is one such example. This poor baby was taken to the doctor, and unlike many doctors, it was determined that the bites were from bed bugs. Note: Many inexperienced doctors misdiagnose such bites.

The mother of this child searched the crib and found the frame was infested with bed bugs (see more pictures of bed bug bites). Rather than do it herself, she called out a professional pest control company to eliminate the infestation. It is believed that the infestation started with baby cloths found at a garage sale.

Bed bug bites tend to have a pattern and this photo shows the perfect example of what they look like. If this were an attack by many bugs or by a few that are not as hungry, the pattern may not be noticeable.

People from around the world bitten by bed bugs have submitted photos for you to view, some are simple bites while other are horrible attacks that not only left physical scarring, but emotional scars as well.

It cant be said with absolute certainty that a bite was caused by a particular bug, but by viewing our collection of images and matching the pattern, it can give you a good start!

Weve got the largest collection of bed bugs pictures around and youll find them very helpful in identifying the bug your found.

Finding bed bugs in your home has nothing to do with poor hygiene! It takes only one bed bug to hitch a ride on your clothing (furniture, suitcase, etc) and infest your residence. Whats worse is that they can live up to one year without drinking a drop of your blood. Feeding takes about 10 to 15 minutes for adults and less for the nymphs; they feed about every three days. Depending on the conditions, bed bug nymphs can survive for months without feeding.

Bed Bugs are insects, more specifically, True Bugs, which have piercing mouthparts that in most species are used for feeding on plants. Unfortunately, there are some species of bugs with mouthparts that have been adapted to feed on human blood while inflicting very little pain (most never feel the blood feeding).

Do it yourself bed bug detection Got Bed Bugs …

Do-it-yourself detection: You will need a table with 4 skinny legs, a heating pad, a couple of alka seltzer tablets, a jar lid or small cup saucer/plate, and and some glue traps. The glue boards I got from Walmart for like $2.50 - Catchmaster Baited Mouse and Insect Glue Boards 4 pack. Its a reddish-orange and yellow package. Put the table in the room you think there are bedbugs. Take the glue boards out. Do not fold them into the box shape (for trapping mice) but rather leave them flat. Peel off the wax paper to expose the glue. Take one of the glue boards and with the glue side up, stick the bottom of each of the legs of the table in the middle of the glue board. Now anything trying to climb up the legs of the table will first have to get through the glue moat to do so. (They will not succeed) Plug the heating pad in and put it on low heat. Put the pad on the table. (Make sure the cord is not touching the floor. If you want to be extra careful you can put double sided sticky tape on the cord just below where it reaches the tabletop. I didn't do this part, didn't actually think of it till now) In the lid of the jar (or plate or whatever, just make sure if it's plastic not to put it directly on top of the heated pad) put 2 alka seltzer tablets. Put a few drops of water on top so they start to fizzle. Put them on the table next to the heating pad. Turn the lights off in the room, leave the room, and shut the door behind you. The bugs are attracted to body heat and the carbon dioxide we exhale. The heating pad mimics our body heat, and the fizzing alka seltzer releases carbon dioxide. Dry ice would probably work better, but I wanted to work with what I already had. This will work, though it might take a day or so. Do not hang out in the room where you have set this trap up! (I know, not a problem...) As soon as I figure out how to post pics here, I will show my results.

TU Study Shows Bats, Cavemen To Thank For Bedbugs

TULSA, Oklahoma -

Bedbugs can cost thousands of dollars if they infest our homes, and now it's looking like we have bats and cavemen to thank.

One TU professor's study goes back a quarter-million years and uses bedbugs that came over from Europe.

The best kind of bed bug is a dead one, most would say, and that's exactly how they came in to TU Biology Professor, Dr. Warren Booth's lab.

We send out packages on a weekly basis to pest control companies, hoping that they'll return vials of bed bugs, Booth said.

His most recent study was published in the journal Molecular Ecology. It zeroed in on where bedbugs came from and why they reappeared in the 1980s.

Based off DNA studies, he said there are two distinct groups of the blood-sucking pests.

So this paper essentially shows there's a bat-associated lineage and a human-associated lineage in Europe, Booth said.

He said bats were the first host for bedbugs in ancient times, and said bedbugs were introduced to humans a quarter of a million years ago when people shared caves with bats.

That's when Booth said some of the parasites feeding on bats evolved and started feeding on humans instead, and now the two groups no longer interact.

Home Destroyed During Bed Bug Battle

Wednesday February 4, 2015 5:07 AM UPDATED: Wednesday February 4, 2015 5:44 PM

Firefighters say a family of six escaped flames at their west Columbus home Wednesday.

Investigators say three adults and three kids were inside when the fire started at a North Harris Avenue home around 1:00 a.m.

Officials say the family was apparently dealing with bed bugs in the home and they attempted to use a lighter on the couch to destroy them.

The owners son apparently started the blaze.

We sprayed the couch earlier but, uh, some alcohol you buy from the drug store which kills them on contact, and he was chasing one down with a lighter and the couch catch fire, said Fred Horne, fire victim.

That caused the couch to go up in flames. They quickly tried to get the couch out of the house, but it got stuck in the doorway and caught the entire home on fire.

Horne knew it was time to get out.

My beard started singeing, my eyebrows. I said we got to make it out the back door.

Neighbors say they're working to help the family with what they need.
