Orkin entomologist and director of technical services, Ron Harrison, describes these creepy crawlers as hitchhikers and are very difficult to control. Bed bugs are a serious issue across the country, and theyre very difficult to control. Bed bugs are not limited to any level of cleanliness or income, which means they can be found in any home or hotel. Theyre great hitchhikers, and people often bring them inside on their clothes or in their luggage. Orkin has seen an 18 percent increase in business for the treatment of bed bugs within the last year. More was done nationwide in 2014 to reduce the number of bed bugs. According to a 2013 report generated by the pest control industry, Americans spent $446 million to eliminate bed bugs. Thats a huge jump from the $70 million spent in 2004. The 2013 report is the most current reading on these statistics. What can be done to prevent bed bugs? Orkin advises that homes be inspected regularly by checking locations where they hide out when its daylight. Those places will be bed sheets, mattresses, furniture, behind baseboards, picture frames, and electrical outlets. Limiting clutter in the house will assist in making bed bug inspections easier. Bedlam Plus Bed Bug Insecticide Spray Aerosol (residual spray)

CLICK ON THE IMAGE FOR A LARGER VIEW

Bedlam Plus is a new aerosol insecticide by MGK offering a longer lasting residual than the original Bedlam with the addition of Imidacloprid. This longer lasting residual additive along with an updated formulation gives Bedlam Plus the ability to kill all stages of bed bugs, their eggs and even pyrethroid resistant bed bugs. It is very important to mention that Bedlam Plus is solely a crack and crevice spray and should not be applied in areas that may come in contact with skin. For mattress applications, Bedlam Plus is designed to applied until damp along the folds, tufts and edges of the mattress and not on the top surface where we sleep.

We like to use Bedlam along the folds of mattresses, sofas, chairs and on drapes and other fabric materials that do not come into contact with skin. Bedlam is a residual in that the ingredients remain active for several weeks allowing it to continue killing bed bugs. The only drawback to Bedlam is it's more expensive than other non-aerosol residual killers such as our JT Eaton Kills Bed Bugs II.

To learn more about Bedlam Plus, visit http://www.bedbugsupply.com/Bedlam-Plus-Bed-Bug-Insecticide-Spray-Aerosol-residual-spray_p_179.html

Bedlam Plus features a dual mode of action that kills the toughest pyrethroid-resistant bed bugs fast. Featuring the perfect combination of quick kill and residual control, Bedlam Plus is proven to keep killing pyrethroid-resistant bed bugs and their eggs for two weeks after treatment.

DISCLAIMER: Always adhere to the product label and MSDS when using any pesticide products for safe and effective usage.

For best results, in addition to treatment with Bedlam Insecticide, you should include additional tactics such as those listed below.

Registered States: All 50 States Cannot be shipped to Hawaii or Alaska

It works and kills quickly!

Got a quote from our pest control company and the guy who came out recommended this product due to the high price for service with the company. Was a bit skeptical about this product, but decided to try it since it would have been about $1600 with the company to spray the whole house. It was a hassle to pack up all of our stuff and time consuming. The chemical itself was really strong and took a few hours to air out afterwards. It's a BIG job and an all day thing, but was totally worth it. Haven't seen any bugs since...so far so good. We are finally resting/sleeping with no worries 🙂

Bed Bug: Elimination, Description of Bed Bugs, Common Bedbug

Bed bug elimination is best accomplished by first understanding the pest that has invaded your home - especially where bedbugs hide. Knowing bed bug habits and description of bedbugs will give you knowledge needed when choosing and applying the best control products.

Basic Bed Bug Control Information

The most common mistake made when controlling bed bugs: not knowing which type of insecticide to use in the correct areas. Most of the people who read this article will skip the most important step: dusting cracks and crevices with an insecticide dust. Crack and crevice work is a little more time-consuming than spraying, which is why some people choose to skip this step. Just as in controlling ticks, you must apply a professional insecticide dust into tiny cracks and crevices where the targeted pest hides. Many household pests can be controlled or prevented by a simple insecticide bug spray on baseboards and exterior surfaces of the home. This is not the case when dealing with an infestation of bed bugs.

Once bed bugs have invaded your home, they can be a little tough to eliminate. Their habits, size and their hardy nature help contribute to their persistence in homes that they have invaded.

An adult bed bug is not very large; it is usually about 1/4 an inch long. The small body size helps this pest to hide in areas that make their elimination difficult. The bed bug nymph succumbs to pest control products easier than their adult counterparts but (just like adults) can go for long periods without food. Blood taken from humans is the preferred food of young and adult common bed bugs.

There are other species of bed bugs (besides the common bed bug) that prefer other hosts (bats, swallows, pigeons, starlings, etc.) but these blood feeding pests will also feed on humans if given the opportunity.

A bed bug's secretive nature makes it a difficult pest to identify and eliminate. These insects are not seen crawling around in the daylight hours where they would be easily identified. They hide in various areas during the day and come out at quiet times of the night to feed on human blood. Since they usually wait for their host to go to sleep, the host does not see or feel their presence. The obvious sign that a bed bug infestation is in a room is the presence of small drops of blood on sheets and pillows or pillow cases.

Bed Bug Elimination Bed Bug Pest Control Products

Bed bug elimination procedures, methods and products closely resemble those used for indoor tick elimination, due to their size, harborage areas and habits. Thorough inspection of the premises will save you time and money. These tiny bugs can be found in any small crack in proximity to where humans rest or sleep. These cracks and crevices are generally behind and beneath baseboards, beneath area rugs, between carpeting and walls, in power areas of appliances or even in the folds of curtains and drapes in the infested room. A thorough vacuuming of cracks, crevices and other areas where bed bugs hide is an essential part of an integrated pest management program targeting this particular pest. A combination of odorless insecticide spray and insecticide dust is needed to eliminate bed bug populations with special attention given to dusting all bug hiding places. Once mattresses and box spring setups have been thoroughly cleaned and (if necessary) treated with an odorless dust, plastic covers on the mattresses will help keep bugs in as well as keep others out.

A general purpose spray can be used on carpets, furniture and baseboards to help cut back on some of the population but the most important pest control tool you can use is an insecticide dust. Many pest control service technicians are now using premium fogging solutions in addition to other suggested pest management procedures for bed bug control. When fogging with a cold fogger is required for stubborn or re-occurring bed bug infestations, Shockwave Fogging is giving best fog results. Shockwave Fogging contains a high amount of natural pyrethrins (1.00%) and also contains an IGR. Fogging is rarely considered to be great controller of pests when used alone. Only use a fog when a very fast kill of existing bugs is needed. Fogging mainly kills exposed bugs that are not hiding in cracks or crevices. With the addition of Pyriproxyfen IGR, Shockwave Fogging does give an extra residual effect. Elimination of a bed bug infestation takes some patience. These pests live in tiny cracks that are sometimes difficult to reach with pest control products and they can live a longer time without food than can other blood feeding bugs such as fleas. Apply your spray to baseboards, carpets, flooring, throw rugs, area rugs or other areas where bed bugs might crawl at night. This insecticide will also kill spiders, fleas, ticks, ants and other household pests. After allowing your pesticide spray solution to thoroughly dry, you may now begin the important application of dust. Any area of possible bed bug harborage (especially those areas where your spray cannot reach) should be treated with Drione Dust.

Bed Bug Bites, Rashes & Symptoms – Orkin Termite Treatment …

Bed bugs feed on blood as their only source of nutrition. In order to mature into adults, they must feed once during each of their immature stages. Adult females also need blood in order to produce eggs. Although bedbugs do bite humans, they are not known to transmit diseases to people.

How to Identify the Bites Blood spots found on ones sheets, bites and the presence of bed bug feces and cast skins are some of the indications of a bed bug infestation. Bites are commonly found on the parts of the body that are more likely to be exposed to bed bugs during sleep the hands, neck, face, shoulders, legs and arms. While not always the case, bed bug bites are often grouped together in a small area and at times may occur in a line or a zigzag pattern. Bites normally look like small, flat or raised areas that may become inflamed, itchy, red or blistered. Bed bug bite reactions dont always appear immediately after youre bitten and may take a few days to begin causing symptoms. However, not everyone reacts to bed bug bites in the same manner.

The size of bed bug bites varies with a number of different factors. Bed bugs inject an anti-coagulant along with their saliva when they pierce the skin to take a blood meal. This anti-coagulant is mostly responsible for how a person reacts to the bite and determines the size of the bugs bite. Since people will have various sensitivities to the bed bugs bite, the size of the bite will vary, as well. Another factor that influences the size of a bed bug reaction is the number of times a person is bitten. Bite reactions of people bitten many times are also variable, and their response may be either more or less intense as the number of bites increases.

Bed bugs pierce human skin with elongated beaks through which they extract blood. Bed bug bites are not initially painful and can go unnoticed for hours or days. This allows bed bugs to withdraw human blood for up to 10 minutes with each feeding. Bed bug bites occur most commonly on exposed skin, such as the upper body, neck, arms and shoulders.

Bite Symptoms Some individuals who are bitten by bed bugs develop itching, red welts or swelling the day after being bitten. However, bites may not become obvious for several days or at allon some individuals. Many people do not react at all to the bite of a bed bugmany bites leave no mark and go completely unnoticed.

Unlike those of other insects, bed bug bites may sometimesappear in tight lines of multiple, small, red marks where multiple bed bugs have fed along an exposed area. Bed bug bites can cause itchiness. Initially, a victim may detect a slight burning sensation. The burning area then develops red bumps, known as papules or wheals (rash). In extreme cases, bites may swell dramatically or turn into blister-like skin inflammations.

If you develop a rash after being bitten by a bed bug, avoid scratching the affected area. If the rash persists or becomes infected, contact a medical professional immediately.

Why Do They Bite? Bed bugs are blood feeders that depend on blood for their food source, so they must consume blood for survival.

One bed bug will usually take more than one bite. Once a bed bug inserts its mouthparts and finds a suitable blood vessel, it will begin feeding. However, finding the right blood vessel may take more than one injection into the skin. In addition, bed bugs are very sensitive to movement by the host they are feeding on. Therefore, if a sleeping person moves, a feeding bed bug will probably withdraw its mouthparts and begin its search for a blood meal on another part of the body. Its important to remember that the number of bites a person receives is not indicative of the number of bed bugs that feed on that person.

Risks Associated With Infections Scratching bed bug bites and failure to keep the bites clean and disinfected may lead to a secondary infection that can cause further swelling and bleeding. Children, the elderly, and individuals with weak immune systems, particularly those who are bedridden, may develop secondary infections that result from bed bug bites.
