Bed bugs have made a return with a vengeance, especially in the Seattle area. We are licensed, bonded, insured, and more importantly, trained in dealing with your bed bug problem. There are many methods and techniques for getting rid of bed bugs. Weve based our bed bug removal process on what has proven effective and also cost effective.

Because bed bugs have been so popular in the news during the last few years, many times people jump to the conclusion that the mystery bumps showing up on them are indeed bed bugs. Bed bugs have sure made a comeback, but first lets identify if you do in fact have them. The easiest way to check for bed bugs is to look. A large percentage of bed bugs are located within 5 feet of your bed. We recommend taking off all bedding, such as sheets, blankets, etc. and inspecting them thoroughly. Next, do a very thorough inspection of your mattress and box spring. Look carefully at all seams and especially on the bottom-side of your mattress. If you see any live bed bugs or dark spots, then you have bed bugs. Many times on an inspection we wont find any live bed bugs (because they are hiding), but well see the black spots they leave behind. Another common place to find evidence of bed bugs is on the bed itself, usually under the box spring. Again, look for live bed bugs or black spots. Other locations to search for bed bugs include couches, bookshelves, and electronic items close to your bed. Because everyone reacts differently to bed bug bites, it is nearly impossible to identify them from bites alone. IF YOU PREFER THAT A PROFESSIONAL PERFORM AND INSPECTION, WE WOULD BE GLAD TO ASSIST YOU. WE CHARGE $99 FOR AN INSPECTION.

Weve tried to make this simple for our customers. Unlike our competitors, we list our prices online, so you know how much youre paying before we come out. Below youll see a chart with our prices. The cost depends on how many rooms you need treated. The follow-up price is NOT per room, but total. So if you need 3 rooms treated we will charge you $419 on your first visit and $159 for each follow-up visit you need.

How many treatments does it take to get rid of bed bugs?

Bed Bugs can be very difficult to eradicate and there is no silver-bullet to getting rid of them. If prep work is done properly, then most customers only need one or two treatments, but this is not always the case. Some customers require three or more treatments. One thing to keep in mind is that bed bugs are hitchhikers, meaning they get a ride into your home. This can be from luggage, clothes, used furniture, friends, family, yourself, etc.. If bed bugs are continually introduced into your home, it can make a bed bug issue an ongoing problem.

In multi-unit settings, such as apartment or town homes, its possible that the bed bugs are coming from another unit. Unless the source of the problem is found, you can be dealing with an ongoing issue. In multi-unit settings we do recommend inspections be done in all units to help discover the source and then treat the infested units.

Please give each treatment 2 to 3 weeks to work properly. Bed bugs are not eliminated immediately. If treateddirectly, then a bed bug will die off quickly; however, most bed bugs are in hiding and are not treated via direct hit. As they come out of hiding, they will come in contact with our treatments, but it does take time to work. If after two to three weeks you are still having issues, then its time for another treatment. Its recommended to treat every two to three weeks until they are eliminated. Please contact our office to setup any follow-up treatments, if needed.

The resurgent of bed bugs has led to new research and methods. We are always looking for new and effective treatments, so our procedures may change from one treatment to another. Generally speaking though, here are some of the things that we do:

PREPARATION IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANTFACTOR FOR GETTING RID OF BED BUGS. Without full participation from the customer, it can be very difficult, if not impossible to eradicate bed bugs. The better the preparation, the more likely it is we eradicate bed bugs in one or two treatments.

Please note, that if preparation is not done when our technicians arrive for treatment, Eco Elite Pest Control will either 1). Perform a treatment as best as we can given the circumstances. You will still be charged the regular rate, even though a full treatment wasnt performed, or 2). We will reschedule for a different day and charge a $99 trip fee. The technicians holds the right to make the choice at time of service.

Make sure you follow ourBed Bug Prep Sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT DO BED BUG BITES LOOK LIKE? Each person reacts differently to bed bugs and many people do not react at all. There is no way to tell if someone has bed bugs based on bites/reactions. The best way to tell if you have bed bugs is via inspection.

CAN YOU SEE BED BUGS? Yes. Though they are small, an adult sized beg bug is similar in size to a lady bug. There are different stages in the life of a bed bug, and some stages they are very small, but you can see them with the naked eye. Bed bug eggs can be hard to see as they are a white/translucent color.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE BED BUGS? The most common answer is from the bites; however, some people do not react to bed bugs. Some customers actually see the bed bugs. The easiest way to tell is to inspect. Most of the time if you have bed bugs, they are found on the box spring, bed frame, or corners of a mattress. Many times when inspecting youll see bed bugs themselves, their white/translucent eggs, or their fecal matter, which looks like small black ink stains.

SHOULD I THROW AWAY MY MATTRESS? Generally you do not need to throw your mattress or any furniture away. Most of the time we can solve your bed bug problem without you going to this extreme; however, some types of furniture can be very difficult to treat. Your technician will let you know if any furniture should be discarded. If you do need to toss out any furniture, take necessary precautions to prevent bed bugs from transferring to other rooms.

ARE THEY ALWAYS FOUND IN MY BED? No. Bed bugs are present where people are present. They are also most active at night, and since they need humans to survive, theres a good chance they will be found in the bed, or near the bed. They can also be found in couches, chairs, carpets, or furniture.

How To Get Rid of & Kill Bed Bugs – DIY Bed Bug Treatment

Do you have bed bugs in your home? A treatment by a professional pest control company may not be in your budget or work with your schedule. Luckily, it is possible to treat a bed bug infestation yourself without spending a fortune. You must be diligent and committed to the treatment process, but you can do it yourself! Read our guide below for the 4-step process to treat for bed bugs.

Not sure if you have bed bugs or where to find them? Read our guide on what bed bugs look like and our guide to finding where bed bugs hide in the home before you begin to treat.

Before you begin your own bed bug treatment, you will need to prepare the room or rooms where bed bugs have been found, in addition to rooms that share walls with the infested rooms. Remove any items in the room that you absolutely cannot treat or that have already been treated. Cover items that will be removed from the room in plastic bags before moving to the next room to prevent any unseen bed bug from infesting another room.

Remove any paintings or art from the walls. Be sure to thoroughly check any item that is removed from the room to prevent bed bugs from being transferred from room to room.

Step 1 - Prepare the space that needs to be treated. This is probably the hardest part for most folks, but whether you hire a pest control operator or do your own bedbug treatment, THIS STEP CANNOT BE SKIPPED. It's time to take a hard look around the room. Grab a few trash bags and bag up anything you have decided you do not want to keep. Remember, every item left in the room must be treated in some way to get rid of hidden bedbugs so if you don't need it or love it , TOSS IT! Be sure to seal up the bags before carrying them out of the room to avoid transferring bedbugs to other parts of the home

If you have a mattress that is heavily infested, we recommend covering it with a bed bug proof mattress cover or bed bug mattress encasement before moving. You will also need to cover your box spring with a box spring encasement.

If your mattress needs to be disposed of and replaced, be sure to cover the mattress with plastic before disposing to protect sanitation workers. Labeling a mattress or covering with "Bed Bugs" is also helpful.

Infested sheets, linens, and garments should be washed and then dried in a household dryer on high heat (over 120 degrees F), as the heat will kill bed bugs. Any garments that cannot be washed may need to be dry-cleaned or discarded as insecticides cannot be used on these materials.

If stuffed animals, books, or soft toys are infested, place those items in an air-tight bin along with vapor strips to kill the bugs.

To treat your mattress for bed bugs, use an aerosol spray labeled for bed bug treatment, such as Bedlam Aerosol Spray, and spray or mist the product onto the mattress. Focus on the seams, tufts, and folds of the mattress and spray until the mattress is damp. Allow mattress to dry before remaking the bed with freshly laundered sheets that have been run through a dryer on high heat.

After treating a mattress or box spring for bed bugs, we recommend encasing each in a bed bug proof cover. This will prevent re-infestation and will make future inspections and treatments easier. Be sure any product that has been sprayed or applied to your mattress is dry before you cover the mattress with a bed bug proof cover. You can make the bed with your freshly laundered linens over a bed bug proof mattress cover.

After encasing, you will not need to re-treat your mattress or box spring further. If you are not encasing your mattress or box spring, you will need to reapply the aerosol spray every 7-10 days until you do not see any further bed bug activity.

You can follow the initial aerosol spray treatment with an insecticide dust. Dusts are great for hard to reach areas like the corners of mattresses and where mattresses and box springs meet. Dusts also last for several months.

Don't forget to dust your box spring as well. Remove the dust cover from the bottom of the box spring and dust in corners and crevices.

Again, we highly recommend encasing your mattress and box spring to avoid having to re-treat.

As mentioned above, high heat kills bed bugs. A bed bug or bed bug egg must have direct contact with hot steam to be killed. We recommend using a bed bug steamer to steam your mattress, box spring, and other furniture.

Steaming is a great option in rooms and areas where the use of pesticides must be limited due to health or other concerns. When using the steamer, take your time and slowly move the steamer across the item you are treating for the best possible treatment. We still strongly recommend you follow-up with an insecticide labeled for bed bugs in areas where it is permissible to do so. All steaming should be done prior to covering a mattress or box spring with a protective cover and applying insecticides.

Once Step 2B is complete and the insecticide mixture is dry, you can follow up with a bed bug aerosol spray. Bed bug aerosol sprays are insecticides that have fine particles that get deep into cracks and crevices. By using both a liquid concentrate insecticide mixture and an aerosol spray, you can treat bed bugs that may have built up a resistance to one product but not the other.

Bed bug aerosol sprays come with a straw applicator to make it easier to apply into the cracks and crevices of furniture and mattresses around the affected rooms. Don't forget to apply in drawers, picture frames, bed frames, and any other cracks you can find. Again, you will want to allow this part of the treatment to dry before moving on.

Some areas to pay special attention to:

After spraying with an insecticide and following up with a bed bug aerosol, the next step in the bed bug treatment process is to apply a bed bug dust insecticide. As the name implies, bed bug dust is insecticide in a powder form. Because the dust is a slow kill, we recommend using other products in addition to the dust (see steps 2B and 2C).

Bedbug dust can be applied with a hand duster into cracks, crevices, behind wall outlet covers or faceplates, and other hard to reach spaces. While the application of dusts in hard to reach spaces may be tricky, dusts are ideal because they last for months or even years, depending on the product.

Bed Bug Report for Washington Marriott, Washington, DC

Anonymous on 08/18/2014

Stayed in room 354, executive wing. Bites on me and my daughter within an hour of walking into the room.

Anonymous on 09/26/2011

Stayed there on Sept 21, 22 - room 712. Woke up with bites on my arms and legs - looked like a rash/welts - extremely itchy - I seemed to have an allergic reaction to the bites. I thought it was some other allergy and unfortunately I stayed another night. I had more bites and it was much worse the next day. I didn't figure out what it was until after I checked out on Friday the 23rd and did some research on Beg Bugs on the internet. It was exactly what I had. They only bit me on exposed ski

n - with bites in a row similar to what I found on the internet.

I called the hotel to let them know - not sure if they believed me or not. I did not actually see the bed bugs or search for them while I was there. However, it was pretty obvious that it happened at this hotel.

Freezing Bed Bugs: Does the Cold Kill Them?

How Bed Bugs Get Inside

Bed bugs are insects that are often introduced into homes via infested belongings such as luggage or second-hand furniture. Since these pests bite, homeowners with bed bugs usually want a quick and easy fix to get rid of them.

Unfortunately, these tough pests are able to breed quickly, hide well, and survive all but the most extreme conditions.

Putting infested objects like clothes or bedding in a freezer can help get rid of the bed bugs, but each item should be placed in a plastic bag prior to freezing.

Keep the temperature at -19 degrees Celsius for about four days in order to be effective. Even then, some bed bugs may live through the freezing process.

Cautions

Keep in mind that putting some items into the cold may damage them. Freezing is also best for small items, not whole-house control. For mattresses, furniture, and other belongings, homeowners will need to explore other control methods.

Residents should not attempt to freeze bed bugs by turning off the heat or opening the windows in their homes during cool weather. This tactic does not work and can lead to burst pipes and structural damage.

Some pest professionals use heat or freezing treatments to control bed bugs, but these methods require special equipment, training and skills. As a result, freezing can kill bed bugs but is not the most practical approach for residents to attempt themselves.

A call to the bed bug experts at Orkin Canada is the best option to remove bed bug infestations.
