Bed Bug News Reports BedBugs in Alaska? Yes, and its …

Bedbugs are not a NEW problem in Alaska. The resurgence in the lower 48 is now a common occurance, but Bedbugs in Alaska my be not as well understood.

MrBedBug at work in the FLfresh LLC corporate offices.

Hello, my tasty-human friends. Im MrBedBug, Chief SpokesBug for FLfresh.com and EcoBugFREE, the BedBug Eliminator. I am a TV star on MrBedBug-TV on YouTube and Editor of the BedBug News Reports.com

Its only logical that BedBugs would be in Alaska. We only feed on tasty-humans, [as I say often in my blog-post and videos], but it takes a hardy BedBug to like living in Alaska just like it takes special humans.

BedBugs are hitch-hikers, so the increase in easy travel between Alaskan cities and the lower 48, increases the chances youll see a BedBug infestation in Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks or in the working wild. Its not all the fault of tourist. In the lower 48, I tell the tasty-humans its not the fault of homeless folks or no-tell-motels either. BedBugs have been around since human-time began..and we arent going anywhere, as long as you dont take our presence seriously.

This article in the Alaska Dispatch News doesnt have a very good photo. If you want to see a better example, Heres what a Bedbug looks like in your home.

BedBugs have nothing to do with your mattress. we were named BedBugs, because thats where we were most commonly found, before the invention of other cool places we like to hang-out. Bedbugs are common in movie theaters, airplane seats, taxis and busses, plus, Dr offices, assisted-living and hospital facilities, plus apartments, condos and single-family homes. Bedbugs will gather anywhere a tasty-human offers an all-you-can-eat buffet opportunity.

The GOOD NEWS? Bedbugs do NOT spread disease. They are more a social-outcast than a real medical emergency, but the sooner you recognize the signs of a new Bedbug infestation, the sooner you can clean-up the mess.

There are not enough cases of BedBugs in Alaska that gets you on the Top 50 Most Bedbug Infested cities list, but that doesnt mean you should not be aware of the problem. The Bedbug News Reports .com web pages are here to help you learn from the mistakes of others [and a few success cases too] You really can clean a Bedbug infestation with Do-It-Yourself tools [and a product called EcoBugFree, the Bedbug Eliminator] The one advantage you have cleaning a BedBug infestation in Alaska, is something not many other USA cities have thats REALLY cold temperatures. Its not the best way to kill BedBugs, but we have evolved to match human living contions. The most common whole house treatment in the lower 48 is a forced-heat treatment that raises the ambient temp to over 135-140 for several hours. BedBugs will die from extreme cold too, just like a human, so THAT option exist naturally in Alaska.

Before you start any treatment plan to remove Bedbugs in an Alaskan home, apartment or bunkhouse, do the research to find what will be most effective method in your specific situation. Michigan Has a Lot of Bed Bugs Including Grand Rapids

Every year, Orkin releases their 'Top 50 Bed Bug Cities List' and let's just say the Mitten State was crawling with bed bugs last year.

The results are

...based on treatment data from the metro areas where Orkin performed the most bed bug treatments from December 1, 2016 November 30, 2017.The ranking includes both residential and commercial treatments.

Based on this, Detroit ranked #7 out of 50, the same ranking it received in 2016. So while *technically* things didn't get worse in Detroit... it did for Grand Rapids and the west side of the state. Moving upfour spots from the year prior, Grand Rapids-Kalamazoo-Battle Creek came in at #23. And for the first time EVER, Flint-Saginaw-Bay City made the list at #38.

What's happening here? Why are bed bugs taking over?! Dr. Tim Husen, an entomologist with Orkin, states that these pests continue to rise in the U.S. because they are constantlymoving (not seasonal) and only need blood to survive. Not to mention these bloodsuckers populate like crazy! An adult female lays 2-5 eggs per day.

So what can you do to prevent, or at least minimize the chance of, getting bed bugs? Orkin has a helpful section which includes things you can do at home and while you're traveling plus general info and FAQ's about bed bugs.

& just in case you're wonderingwhich cities have it the worst, here's the top 10:

How to Eliminate Bed Bugs – PF Harris

Most insecticides used for bed bug control are primarily of the pyrethroid class of pesticides, like Harris Bed Bug Killer. Elimination of bed bugs in a home involves use of effective insecticides applied to all points where bed bugs are present. Our water-based, odorless treatments must directly contact the bed bugs during application. Repeated insecticide applications within 4 weeks may be required to kill bed bugs that later hatch from eggs, along with those that may have been missed during earlier treatment.

Aerosol foggers of non-persisting insecticides are less effective for bed bug control. At most, these kill a few of the insects that are directly contacted with sufficient quantity of the insecticide. However, they dont adequately penetrate hiding sites of some bed bugs, resulting in failure of eradication.

Thoroughly vacuum all 6 sides of box springs and mattresses. Vacuum all cracks and crevices within the furniture of the bed and nearby electrical outlets, baseboards and floors prior to treatment. Empty the vacuum contents into a plastic bag and discard in trash.

Sheets and other bedding can be easily disinfected by laundering that involves a dryer cycle. The high temperatures involved in drying are critical to successfully kill bed bugs, with exposure to temperatures exceeding 120 F for 20 minutes usually sufficient to kill all life stages.

When stripping beds during a bed bug treatment, pull the sheets carefully so as not to dislodge eggs or drop bed bugs onto the floor where they may be missed by other treatments. Accidental spread of bed bugs can also be prevented by bagging the bedding as it is moved to the laundry.

Mattress encasements enclose your mattress and box spring and are an integral step in the treatment process for two reasons: 1. They protect your investment in bedding 2. They reduce the areas where bed bugs can hide nearest to you. The water-resistant, tight-weave fabric prevents the entry of even the smallest bed bug.

Disposal may be considered for mattresses, box springs, couches or other furniture that is heavily infested with bed bugs. If this is done, proper disposal should be ensured. Leaving such items on the street for disposal may cause them to be scavenged, which will spread infestations to new dwellings. Be careful when removing the items from the structure so that bed bugs will not become dislodged and infest other areas inside.

Bed Bugs in Georgia: Bites, & Treatment | Allgood Pest …

Return To Pest Selection

Bed bugs are a common household pest that can be found not just in Georgia and Tennessee, but all over the world. Theyve been preying on humans for hundreds of years, and were almost completely extinct a few decades ago. However, the banning of dangerous chemical pesticides like DDT, as well as the rise of affordable international travel, helped bed bug populations rebound and stretch all over the globe.

Bed bug eggs are a whitish color and only 1mm in size. Nymphs that are first hatched are cream colored and so small that they can fit through a fabric stitch. Due to their size, both are very difficult, if not impossible to detect with the human eye. Adult bed bugs are small but can be visible to the human eye. They have a flat, oval-shaped body and grow to be about of an inch in length. Adults are reddish-brown in color and are often compared to looking like an apple seed with legs.

Bed bugs are often found in public spaces where there is a large amount of human traffic. Some spots where bed bugs commonly reside include:

Bed bugs hitchhike from one place to another by climbing into bags, luggage, outerwear, furniture, and similar items. Once they have entered your home, they will typically find hiding spaces that are dark, cramped, and provide easy access to a blood meal. The following are just a few areas where bed bugs commonly hide:

Because bed bugs are so small and only feed on humans while they sleep, it can be difficult to spot the presence of bed bugs before they become an issue. A female bed bug can lay anywhere from one to seven eggs per day after a blood feeding and up to 250 eggs during her lifetime. Newly hatched eggs are called nymphs; these young bed bugs can reach maturity in just a few weeks. Given the speed at which they reproduce, a single pregnant female can propagate an infestation of over 5,000 bed bugs in a six-month period.

When it comes to bed bug control, the sooner you spot an infestation, the better. Some signs that bed bugs have infiltrated your home include:

Bed bugs are not known to carry or transmit any diseases to humans. However, bed bug bites can lead to an infection if the area is broken open from scratching. Having bed bugs in a home can be emotionally damaging for some people. Bed bug infestations can lead to anxiety, stress, and loss of sleep.

No, throwing out your mattress will not solve your bed bug problem. It will just cause you to have nowhere comfortable to sleep at night. Bed bugs are not just found in mattresses and bedrooms. They can move easily through your home and be found hiding throughout it. Your entire home needs to be treated to completely eliminate an infestation, not just your mattresses.

At Allgood, our professionals understand how stressful and unpleasant it can be to know that bed bugs have invaded your home or business. Because of this we will work quickly and safely to treat bed bugs, ensuring that the infestation is completely eliminated. If you suspect your home or business may be infested with bed bugs, dont wait another minute contact Allgood Pest Solutions today for a free bed bug inspection.

Bed Bugs in Michigan: a Report | Griffin Pest Solutions

Up until relatively recently, Michigan and most of the rest of the US were almost entirely bed bug-free. Unfortunately, thats no longer the case. All of a sudden, the beauty sleep-wreckers re-emerged, hardierand hungrier!than ever. In just a few short years, bed bugs proliferated all over the US and reclaimed their status as major pests.

Unfortunately, Michigan was not spared from the bed bugs resurgence. In fact, we got hit worse than most of the rest of the US! If were going to combat the new bed bug menace infiltrating our state, we have to get organized. Thats why Griffin put together this bed bug situation report for residents of Michigan and the rest of the Midwest. This is everything you need to know about why bed bugs are back and why theyre a problem.

As of 2015, 99.6% of all pest control companies in the US reported treating bed bug infestations. 95% of the pest professionals who treated for bed bugs reported infestations in apartments and condos. According to the same report, 1 in 5 Americans have either encountered bed bugs themselves or know someone who has. In 2013, Americans spent around $446 million treating bed bug infestations.

Michigans bed bug problem is particularly severe. As of 2017, 605 bed bug infestations have been reported in commercial properties in Michigan on The Bedbug Registry. Detroit ranked #3 on a 2017 list of the top 50 worst cities for bed bugs in the US. In a different 2015 report, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, and Detroit all ranked in the top 20. Griffin gets calls about residential and commercial bed bug infestations almost every single day.

There are a couple theories about why bed bugs are back with a vengeance after their prolonged absence. Most disturbingly, recent studies show that bed bugs have developed resistances to the pesticides commonly used to control them. Resisting these common chemicals means bed bugs survive in much greater numbers, even in controlled environments. The more bed bugs survive, the more they grow, reproduce, and spread out.

Unfortunately, this rapid expansion is facilitated by our commuter and travel-based society. Bed bugs are consummate hitchhikers. Travelers inadvertently transport them from place to place on bags, luggage, clothing, and other commonly transported items. Finally, because they hadnt been a problem for so long, the public doesnt quite know how to handle them. Most of the thousands of bed bed infestations that occur every year could have been prevented relatively easily. When it comes to fighting the bed bug menace, knowing is more than half the battle!

Alright, were not going to try to pass the blame onto someone else. The fact of the matter is, bed bugs are everyones responsibility. Buuuut Ok, remember how Detroit was #3 on the list of worst cities for bed bugs? Well, Ohio cities Cleveland and Cincinnati ranked at #1 and #2, respectively. As major urban centers, thousands of people travel between each of these three cities every single day. They bring all their cargo and luggage with themand often, their bed bugs, too!

Like we said above, the number one way bed bugs spread is by hitchhiking with travelers. Bed bugs smuggle themselves from place-to-place on cargo and luggage. When they reach a new destination, they spread out in search of food and hiding places. If they find either of these in a home or business, theyll stick around to hunt and reproduce. When the next generation is born, theyll spread out to find new homes, and the process begins again.

Bed bugs spread with travelers, so anywhere that sees lots of traffic is going to see more bed bugs. That means places like hotels are more likely to contend with bed bugs. Theyre not the only ones, however. Any frequent traveler should be particularly careful about bed bugs, especially if they frequent hotels or travel with bags. This counts for people expecting company, too.

Contrary to popular belief, bed bugs are not a sign of a dirty home or bad hygiene. Any traveller can carry them, and they can end up anywhere. Bed bugs can hitchhike on virtually any transported item, including furniture, suitcases, bags, laundry, and (of course) bedding. The more opportunities they have to enter a structure, the more likely it is that they will. That means recent movers are at high risk of bed bug infestation.

The situation weve painted here looks dire, but remember: youre not fighting this battle alone. Griffin is here to help. Weve taught you how to identify bed bugs. Weve helped you protect yourself when traveling or commuting. All the info on bed bugs you need, we have.

And if you ever need more than info, all you have to do is call. Our treatments will guarantee that the bed bugs dont bite ever again.
