Bed Bug Report for Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC …

Hilton Garden Inn Washington DC Downtown 815 14th St Nw Washington, DC 20005-3301

At Hilton garden in Washington I was bitten in multiple places may 3 2013 in room 404

Eric on 05/27/2012

I spent two nights in this hotel, 5/23-25/12, in room 201. I noticed 3 red bites in a line, typical of bed bugs, later in the day that we left.

Belly button bedbug bite on 09/02/2011

We checked into the Hilton Garden Inn, 815 14th Street N.W. Washington, D.C. on Saturday, Aug. 27,2011. My wife awoke on Monday, Aug. 29th with slightly raised, elevated red bumps on her abdomen, just above the umbilicus. They itched intensely, and the lesions remained throughout our stay, through Thursday, Septe. 1, 2011, and are still present as I write this on Sept.2. We reported this to the manager, Brian Reymann, after first looking up the bed bug registry on Google and finding that this ho

tel had been reported on 7 prior occasions. We notified the manager who we later spoke with, and we were required to move rooms at a great inconvenience. The manager had an "independent" inspector go over the room the next day, and the manager gave me a copy of a report stating that the room was not affected by bed bugs. I personally think this was a white wash, and do not believe the report, since my wife went to bed without the lesions and woke up with the lesions. I have compared these with photographes of the lesions on other web sites and they are identical. The manager compensated us for one night's room, when I feel that he should have compensated us for two nights. He also gave us a nice bottle of wine on the eve of our final night. We intend to see a doctor, but the Labor Day week-end makes a visit difficult until next week.

The Best Weapon to Trap and Kill Bed Bugs Is Hidden in Our Blood

Bed bug infestations are a nightmare. The tiny, assholish insects can resist all sorts of measures to kill them completely. Drawn-out infestations are a scourge, but also fairly common in big cities like New York. There are plenty of remedies, from all-natural bean leaves to special heated suitcases, but none are foolproof. One new weapon looks like the most useful tool to fight bed bugs, though. And it uses something found within our blood.

Researchers have identified a chemical blend that lures bed bugs with a 100 percent success rate. The secret ingredient? Histamine, the thing our white blood cells release in an auto-immune response. Histamine is also one of the reasons your skin looks inflamed and irritated after bites from bed bugs, so this is an especially appropriate way to murder those fiendish mattress devils.

Pheromones, the chemicals animals release to communicate, are used to trap all sorts of bugs, including moths, stink bugs, and flies. Scientists have known that bed bugs could be trapped using pheromones for a while now, but they couldn't figure out the final component for a concoction that'd be irresistible to the pests. After 35 experiments, researchers at Simon Fraser team finally found out that histamine was the missing ingredient.

The complete bed bug-killing mix contains dimethyl disulfide, dimethyl trisulfide, (E)-2-hexenal, (E)-2-octenal, and 2-hexanone. These are known as "volatile" components, and they are what attracts bed bugs of all stages of development. The histamine is what makes the bugs stay in the trap.

According to Wired, traps with this new blend are expected to be available in late 2015. While there's always the chance that bed bugs will mutate until they become immune to the immobilizing effects of the histamine, for now, this is a hopeful development in the Great Human War on Bed Bugs. Right now, there's only one surefire way to know if you've got bed bugs -- and it itches like crazy. By the time you notice the lines of red, itching, burning bites, the bugs could have been multiplying in your mattress for days or even weeks. But researchers in Canada have a plan to catch the critters early and make it easier to stop an infestation from spreading.

The Country is Crawling with Blood Suckers. Find Out Who's the Worst

A team of biologists and chemists at Simon Fraser University have identified for the first time a chemical scent that will lure bed bugs out of furniture and into traps. They published their research on the attractive pheromones in the chemistry journal Angewandte Chemie.

"The biggest challenge in dealing with bed bugs is to detect the infestation at an early stage," said Gerhard Gries, one of the biologists who has spent years on the project. "This trap will help landlords, tenants, and pest-control professionals determine whether premises have a bed bug problem, so that they can treat it quickly. It will also be useful for monitoring the treatment's effectiveness."

Don't Let These Bloodsuckers Get You!

Bed bugs were largely eradicated ages ago, but in the last decade they have reemerged in plague-like proportions around the world. Cities across the U.S. have seen infestations in homes, hotels, movie theaters and designer stores.

And once you've got bed bugs, they're very hard to get rid of -- but very easy to pass around.

Bed Bug Report for Capital Hilton, Washington, DC …

December 26th, 2014 DC Bed Bugs, by admin.

Anonymous on 12/22/2013

Severely bitten by bedbugs in November 18th and 19th, also on the 8th floor! Hotel refunded room costs, but insists no bugs found by inspectors (although refuses to share a copy of the pest report). Not impressed. Will not stay there ever again.

Anonymous on 11/26/2013

I found one bed bug in room 501 in my stay from Nov. 18-20. I took a picture of it, showed an employee at the front desk, and was immediately moved to a new room. Management said security would look into it, and presumably, if the room was infested, they would have an exterminator deal with it. The bug was reported to management on 11/19 and they hadnt looked into it as of 11/21, when I checked out.

Anonymous on 11/15/2013

I also stayed in room 881 and what a surprise I have bites all over me. I am about to call the manager and rip him a new one. You must be kidding me that they put people in that room. WTF

Anonymous on 11/04/2013

Update from my post on 10/31:

I just got off the phone with the hotel. They are going to refund me the charges. They also said that although their investigators didnt find anything they had the room entirely treated. So nice when a company actually listens to its customers. Due to this I would not hesitate to stay their again.

Gary Geiger: Florida Bed Bug Buster| FMC Pest Wire

Gary Geiger, owner of Geigers Pest Services, Inc., in St. Petersburg, Fla., has been in business since 2000.

We did 11 bed bug jobs in 2011 and last year it rose to 175 jobs, notes owner Gary Geiger. I have 15 technicians, and four of them now specialize in bed bug work.

Generally, when I get a bed bug call, the problem is already severe, says Geiger. The trigger point is 30 days by then, youve almost reached critical mass. More than likely the homeowners have fogged or treated on their own, which makes the problem worse. It irritates the bugs and now theyre in the nooks and crannies, hiding out. So theyre not as easy to find.

Geiger began using Verifi bed bug detectors as part of his bed bug protocol last year.

What Ive learned is that everyone has post-traumatic stress syndrome with bed bugs, explains Geiger. This happens because of the expense, the disruption, the shame, the sleepless nights you name it! Verifi helps with all that it helps give my customers peace of mind.

Verifi bed bug detectors help give Geigers customers peace of mind.

One of Geigers commercial accounts is a major mental health facility with multiple buildings and satellite houses. Patients ride a shuttle bus back and forth between training centers, classrooms, outlying housing and the central facility.

If one person with bed bugs gets on the bus, people going to five different locations could spread them, he says. But they also have severely mentally ill patients who may think they have bed bugs when they dont. If they call us, well first do a thorough inspection and if we cant find bed bugs, well place Verifi units there and do follow-ups to prove they have them or not.

Sometimes, Geiger finds bed bugs where he doesnt expect them. The Verifi bed bug detector lets him know when to put his eradication plan into place.

After that, they own the units, he notes. If they want to pay us, well refill the attractants and keep on inspecting. With the mental health facility, their maintenance guy is really good. He can replenish the attractants himself we work together.
