Bed Bug Extermination a Growing South Jersey Concern …

Bed Bug Extermination a Growing South Jersey Concern

Bed bugs have a history in the US that dates back to the earliest settlers. By the late 1800s the problem was overwhelming, bed bugs are mentioned as more than a nuisance in historical documents, ship logs and even literature. By the 50s the use of DDT eradicated the problem in Europe and the US but they remained a problem for third world and developing countries. Today with international trade and travel on the rise, bed bugs have made a comeback.Part of the reason for the rise in the bed bug population here in South Jersey, is that many New Jersey residents have never even seen a picture of bed bugs. Most people would not recognize a bed bug bite in pictures either.

Below - what to look for on a mattress, bed bug blood and bed bug waste.

An even bigger reason that bed bug treatments are becoming more necessary is that people don't know the signs or symptoms to look for when they encounter an infestation. Therefor they unwittingly carry the bed bugs home with the from infested hotels and dorm rooms.

Bed bugs typically bite only once per feeding. They feed for 5 to 10 minutes until they are engorged with blood. They typically eat about once a week. They live for about 5 months unless extreme outdoor temperatures kill them. Many bites appearing at one time usually means there are multiple bed bugs. A bed bug bite that has subsided can become re-inflamed up to ten days later, causing the victim to think they've been bitten again.

The good news is, as fast as the bed bug problem is growing, so is the development of the latest environmentally friendly technology that is available to deal with bedbugs. Gone is the single option of saturation with harsh chemicals. Cato Termite and Pest Control has adopted a new forward thinking approach to bed beg control. This new integrative method incorporates the use of some chemicals along with an understanding of bed bug entomology as well as the use of a concentrated targeted heat source.

The NJ Department of Health and Senior Services (NJDHSS) recommends that homeowners hire a pest control professional licensed by the New JerseyDepartment of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). The NJDHS recommends an evaluation by a licensed professional to determine whether or not bed bugs are present, and to exterminate them if so. The following is a quote from their site."A careful inspection must be undertaken and all possible hiding places within infested and adjoining rooms examined. Once all likely sources have been identified, then an approved insecticide, should be applied to all harbourages."Cato uses the latest innovations when treating bed bugs. Our integrated pest management techniques incorporates the use of the latest heat equipment, minimal use of approved chemicals and knowledge of bedbug entomology. If you suspect you may have a problem with bed bugs, call Cato at 856 786 8008 to discuss your treatment options. .

Bitten on 06/02/2014

Checked in on 5-14-14... In one of the "recently renovated" Red Rooms... Room had a musty odor upon check-in. That should have been a major red-flag. I always travel with Lysol, so I sprayed the entire room and bedding. I noticed the top pillows and covers were soiled - GROSS. So, I called housekeeping and requested they change pillows and covers. Housekeeper said he didn't have any replacement pillows (I have photos). Checked out on the 18th. Last week I woke up with bites on my back and neck.

I have NEVER... in 40+ years of life experienced a bed-bug bite... none that I recall. I am now enduring the nightmare of trying to ensure my home is safe from infestation. Also have to decide whether to toss my TUMI luggage that was in the room with me! I want redress!

My husband took a business trip to Vegas the first week of April. A couple weeks after he returned home I started waking up with bug bites. These things have now gotten into our feather bed and our mattresses! I had to dispose of the feather bed...I cleaned vacuumed and hoped by getting rid of the feather bed they would be gone. Nope! I have new bites every morning! Thanks for keeping your place bug free! Won't visit your hotel again! This is the most disgusting thing I have ever had to d

eal with. We will be shopping for a new mattress!! I wish I could charge you for our feather bed and mattress set!!!!

I thought we were the only ones! Did not know about this site till now. My husband and I stayed here in 2010, we had bites all over, reported it to manager and we were offered an upgrade next time we stay there! Hellooo, they think we go back?

Deb on 03/21/2013

I stayed at Paris from Feb.25,2013 to Feb. 27, 2013. I paid for a upgraded suite. Though I enjoyed my stay I started having welts show up the day after I got home. I wound up with fifteen bites down my left side it was concluded I had bed bug bites.I contacted Paris and they had a third party investigate and concluded they were not responsible. I knew this was how it would turn out as I read other incidents and they do not admit responsiblity. Very disappointed as I go to Vegas a few times a yea

r and this is the first time staying at Paris then get bed bug bites a first also !

Mia on 02/06/2013

UGH PARIS HOTEL!! NEVER AGAIN. Me and my best friend have always wanted to go to Paris, so I got her this hotel to go to Vegas for her birthday. When we got in the hotel, we thought it was amazing. BIG mistake. We open the covers a few minutes after we got in , ( It was about 11:30 pm ) 9 BED BUGS . ALIVE. Luckly our stuff wasn't on the floor. We told the front desk, but they said there rooms were clean. We took photos of the bed bugs, they said it was photoshoped. Wow. Thank you. We grabbed our

stuff and demanded a refund. They gave us a refund, and we took a taxi to a different hotel. The hotel was called the M resort. It is in Henderson, NV. Amazing. My mother always stays there and she loves it. We won't be coming to Paris hotel and will going to The M resort from now on.

Blues Sisters on 09/22/2012

We just came back from the Paris LV - I stayed at the hotel last October (same room ...) and no bed bugs. We stayed the week of September 17 in room 459 and no bed bugs when we inspected the room upon our arrival and none during the week just 3 dirty socks found by my sister from the previous guest and left behind by housekeeping ...

Gina H on 07/06/2012

We stayed at this hotel from 6/27/12 to 6/29/12 in room 1462. We inspected the room upon entry. It was extremely clean. No sign of bed bugs anywhere. And we didn't get any bites. There were no bedbugs. We were very pleased with the room. Everything in the hotel is expensive of course. But, that's another subject. I stayed there many times, never had any bed bugs.

LexingtonLady on 07/03/2012

We stayed at the Paris May 9-16, 2012 in room 2991 and my sister was in the adjoining room. My sister awoke with bites on her stomach and places on her legs and hips on the first day. On the third day, I discovered a bedbug on the sheer curtains in my room. I photographed and videoed the bug and feces stains then captured the bug in a ziploc bag. I reported it quietly to the VIP services and was told security would file a report and we would be relocated to another room. A security guard came t

o our room and took a statement and saw the bedbug in the bag. We offered to show him the bites - he refused! He left WITHOUT THE BEDBUG AS WELL! Several hours later, we still were waiting to be relocated. Finally, we were moved to 2835. Three times, I sought out and spoke with a "Manager" and was told an independent lab would test the room. On May 13th, I was told the report said the room was 'clean'! I still had the bedbug in the bag and upon checkout, insisted that manager "Stephen" keep it for evidence. He refused to acknowledge receipt for it but assured me I would be contacted within the day by upper management. To date, I have yet to be contacted by him or any other "manager". I sent the video and pics to a pest control company and it was confirmed a bedbug. The desk clerk said it was definitely not a bedbug - the lab reported the room clean, the manager said the bedbug ("if that is what it is") obviously did not 'catch the elevator' on his own, suggesting we could have carried it in! He told my sister the bites on her were dry itchy patches from the change in the climate. They all said they take reports of bedbugs seriously, but obviously, they do not! All I wanted was to quietly report a problem so they could address it without alarming everyone in the hotel and prevent potential infestation - instead I wasted two days of my vacation and Paris is still in denial. I have stayed several times at the Paris and love the hotel but was very disappointed with the way this was handled.

Susan R on 06/10/2012

Stayed at the Paris from 5/30/12 to 6/4/12. We were on the 30th floor. No bed bugs. The problem I had with the Paris was that on 6/2/12 they had a band playing in the casino that was way too loud. I'm all for having a good time but when we went to our room around 1 a.m., you could still hear the band in our room. At 3:30 am I called the front desk and couldn't get through -- put on hold. I never did get to talk with someone. The band finally quit playing at 3:50 am. They were only suppos

e to play until 2 am. I told my boyfriend I would never stay there again because of the noise. I didn't spend another dime in that place because of that band playing too loud. Really -- 30 floors up!!!

My husband and I stayed at the Paris Hotel & Casino 12/23/2011 thru 12/25/2011. ROOM 1504 with 2 queen beds & each slept in separate bed. 3 days after leaving I had a bite on my face, neck and low back. Then a red, prickly and terrible itchy rash appeared all over my body. Went to a Dermatologist & had 2 biopsies which came back bedbug bites. The rash was a severe allergic reaction to the bites. Been to Dr. x4 for terrible itching rash and many more bites. Taken lots of meds. and had to do washi

ng of all clothes and belongings. 3 mos. later I am still treating bites but rash finally gone. I did contact mgmt. & was told they checked room and found no bugs (that's the posture I expected them to take). We are extremely disappointed that no offer to reimburse me was made nor have they contacted us again. I have pictures, biopsies and Dr. report to verify. We will never stay at the Paris again. A nightmare to say the least.

We stayed at the Paris Las Vegas Jan 6-9, 2012 and had no problems whatsoever. I brought a flashlight with me and searched under the mattress cover and between the mattress and box spring, and behind the bed board, and nothing. Very nice stay. Now if they could do something about the smokey casinos 🙂

We stayed there last week Wife woke up with bites all over her legs..

Anonymously Confused on 01/08/2012

My husband and I stayed here from 12/29-1/6 2012. Everything was wonderful and perfect until 1/5/2012. I found many suspicious bugs in my towels (tiny little ones). I immediately called the management with concerns and they moved us to another beautiful room, sent security to take pics, and said they would have a 3rd party test the room and the samples (I left 4 dead bugs for them). I have pics of the bugs, I think with all of my heart are baby bed bugs. I have compared them to pics online and h

ave bites on my back and side. The manager called me the afternoon of 1/5 saying he had been assured, these were not bed bugs. There was "no activity" reported. As I take every precaution now at home to launder, throw out, heat treat etc. I am finding more bites popping up as the days pass. I am just sick about this and pray they did not somehow get into my home. I kept asking the manager what the bugs were then, if not bed bugs? He said that I would need to call risk management on Monday. I believe he was lied to from this 3rd party. I am not sure what to do other than try to warn people here of a "possible bed bug" issue. I'm 99% sure. I've got the pics and the bites. We stayed in room 2741. Again, the stay was perfect until this happened. I hope this helps someone else.

We stayed at the Paris October 3rd for 4 nights on the 4th Floor. We did not win money at the casino nor bed bugs in the room ... Just lucky ???

Stayed there from October 16th 2011 til October 21st...

Stayed at the Paris for three nights last week with double queen beds. My husband has bites all over his legs and arms. I slept in a separate bed and have none. room 469.

Inspector on 09/15/2011

First off you all should know Orkin does no work at The Paris..second if you see a "sprayer" as the lady put it you shouldn't assume the worse. I work there and the "sprayer" is there for preventative actions...they're a good thing to see on the property and this also lets you know the hotel cares and is willing to pay big bucks for this service. With all the hype about bedbugs most people are paranoid as we all should be, myself included. When a guest complains of bedbugs we don't "test" the r

oom we come in and inspect the rooms including every piece of furniture, drapery and tear about the beds (mattress, box springs and headboards)to inspect. We don't just look for bugs we also are looking for casings (molts) and fecal matter. The hotels do not have to give out copies of inspection reports to guest, not required. Truth is most doctors have never seen a bedbug or a bite so before, something to keep in mind. Also we call bedbugs hitchhikers, so next time your trying on clothes in the dressing room or out to dinner sitting in a booth, seats at the movie theater, public transportation etc..these are the places you should check for bedbugs as well.

I have followed this site since getting bitten at Boardwalk Hilton June 8-12th in Atlantic City NJ. I posted about an incident my family and I experienced in Wall South Dakota a few days later. The report was dead on from what others had experienced yet relatively minor in comparison. I consulted this site before booking a sweet with my girlfriend from July 5th till July 8th and luckily the management assured us the reports on your site prompted them to take extermination to the extreme. We then

returned to Paris from Friday the 26th of August till Sunday the 28th for one last party before back to school and we again had a great experience at this hotel. No bites whatsoever. I figure everyone posts when things go wrong so I had to also post when management does right by the customers due to sites like this raising awareness. Where the hell did these bed bugs come from so fast? I used to live in hotels when traveling and relocating to Ohio. God bless Orkin!!!

Grossed out on 08/25/2011

I stayed at Paris Las Vegas on the 17th floor. Woke up with itchy bites on my legs night one, thought maybe it was fleas. Got progressively worse. I checked the sheets and mattress and there were no visible signs. I saw a sprayer with housekeeping on the floor the day I checked in- should have left then. Dozens of tiny itchy bumps.

Paranoid Feelin' on 08/16/2011

We stayed in Paris on July 31- August 3, 2011. We were in room 1434. The room was beautiful and even smelled clean. After reading this site, I was paranoid to the point of losing sleep. I checked everything and everywhere. Even though I checked and found NOTHING, I still didn't sleep well. After being exhausted, we came home with nothing...no bugs, no bites...I am not saying not to check and be careful, just don't let it ruin your vacation. Paris has over 2900 rooms...the odds are kind of s

Will NEVER stay at the Paris again!

My husband and I are checking into the Paris tonight. I have read all the complaints and we are still going. I have a can of "Bed Rest",a non toxic bed bug spray. I called and asked the front desk if they had resolved the bed bug problem, she denied ever hearing of any reports. When I confronted her with the fact that so many pepole on the internet had problems she said "all hotels have them". She knew and she lied. Red flags are waving everywhere, too late to change our reservations. I wi

March 5-8th, 2011 stayed in room 2107. Woke up with massive amounts of bites on my neck, back and chest. While I couldn't find any on my bed, the doctor had two biopsies performed and both came back positive for bed bug bites. Reported it to management with documentation....still have not heard back.

Stayed in room 3056 6/13 thru 6/16/11. Several clusters of bedbugs bites on legs, back and shoulder. Reported incident to hotel management. Documented with photos and filed complaint. Very itchy and swollen..... Worried about luggage and clothes. Anxious about contaminating my home.

Have stayed at Paris each year for the last 6 years. Nov 2010 I came home with a bad case of bed bugs. Never got them at the regular rack rooms but when they "upgraded" me for the view rooms I received a bad case. Doctor said it was a bad case knowing I was there 5 nights.

We stayed in room 922 on 5/7-5/10/11. No sign of bed bugs and and no bites.

Itchy on 05/18/2011

I stayed at Paris Hotel last week. I asked at the front desk and they said no guest had ever complained of any bed bugs ever. When I left three nights later both my friend in another bed and I had weird red rashes on our necks and legs. When I tried to let the hotel know, they poopood the notion and said it was probably from some sort of STD or skin condition and to never come back and stay there.

Stayed at the Paris The weekend of may 7 -9 2011, woke up with red welps on my neck in a row. I didn't know it until we got home and researched it and it was bed bug bites. My daughter slept in the other bed and had none. Thanks Paris for ruining my 1st time to Vegas.

Beware - Paris Las Vegas on 04/15/2011

Stayed at Paris Hotel rm 1229 on 4/11 - 4/14. After first night woke up with red bites all over my legs, arms and back. Had no idea, but started considering that it was bed bugs...have NEVER experienced this before. I slept in the other double bed IN SAME ROOM the next two nights and did not seem to have any additional bites. But now am horrified after returning back and researching this. I pray they did not return back with me!! I did tell hotel desk when I checked out.

November 27, 28, 29, 2010. Paris hotel Red room king bed. Room facing the strip. We travel with another couple and she got bed bug bites on her legs. We were in another room but got no bites. I do not remenber their room number. Not fun.

My husband & I stayed in Paris for a company sales trip in September 2010 (Vz); I thought that I had an allergic reaction to a shellfish cross-contamination, but it eneded-up that I had bed bug bites all over me after the 1st night there!

Luckily, they were not in our luggage; this was a nightmatre trip for me. The thing is that the 1st 4 nights we were there, we stayed at Bally's, but we couldn't turn down a free room at Paris.

I don't want to back to LV NV for a long time, and we had be

Bed Bug Report for Hilton New York, New York, NY

Anonymous on 03/24/2015

Multiple bed bug bits after staying at this hotel on legs and arms. Hilton is unresponsive.

Anonymous on 12/02/2014

My husband and I stayed at the Hilton Midtown, Room 3550, for two nights, October 3rd & 4th. We encountered itching of the scalp & never associated this with the possibility of being bitten by bed bugs during the night. After returning to our home, three weeks later (the incubation period for bed bug eggs), we discovered more bites & a newly formed nest under one of our bed pillow, close to where our luggage had been placed. We contacted the Hilton to report our experience & was transferred to

Security Department to file a report. We were told that someone would be calling us back; however, as of today (4-weeks + later), no one has called. We have spent an enormous amount of time & money to cure the problem. Believe me, you don't want them!! It has been a horrible experience!

Anonymous on 07/29/2014

I stayed at the Hilton Midtown for a conference from 7/25 through 7/28 and sustained bed bug bites to my bilateral lower extremities. As many before have posted, I was forwarded to security who made me fill out a report and took pictures of my legs. They told me they would "investigate" the situation, but came back and told me there was no "hard evidence" that bed bugs were in my room. OTHER THAN THE BITES ALL OVER MY LEGS. I now look forward to spending a great deal of money to have everything

I brought with me fumigated and dry cleaned. Not to mention the pock marks I have all over my legs. What a lousy experience.

itchy on 06/27/2014

I checked into the Hilton Midtown friday 6/20/2014 by Saturday morning I have bites on my face and arms. Let housekeeping know they screamed and ran from the room. Still waiting to hear from the hotel management. I have pictures of bugs and bites.....

Anonymous on 04/02/2014

Stayed here for two nights at the end of March. Saw spots of blood on the sheets the first day (called the front desk who should have realized this was a red flag). On the second day, woke up to a series of bites/welts on one arm. My dermatologist confirmed what it was when I got home and I phoned the front-desk - who forwarded me to "security." Based on reports (several) on tripadvisor, this hotel's normal protocol is to have you fill out a report with security, they photograph the bites, a

nd then they do nothing...

Was not impressed by their reaction (they did not even bother to look up the room I stayed in despite my providing my name and dates) or their non-existent "customer service."

I spend two months a year in hotels in New York; this was first encounter with this issue. I will never stay in this hotel again and have spread the word.

Anonymous on 11/09/2013

Stayed two nights - found bedbug crawling down the shower curtain the second morning. No signs on bed, no evidence of bites - yet. Still kind of creepy and now I've got to de-bug all my stuff. Ugh.

Anonymous - I'm embarrassede on 09/20/2013

Stayed on the 41st floor from June 30th - July 2, 2013. Woke up in the a.m. with four nasty bites. The scars still show on my legs....! Called management and they came and took a picture, he shook his head and said "yeah" then asked me to fill out a report. When I tried to contact them again - no response. This ordeal cost me close to $1000 in just buying new luggage and basic clothes, not to mention the mental anguish. They told me the room would now be put out of service and offered

to send me to another room - what a comfortable feeling to still have the option to stay in this hotel (or not!!!) They can now keep their "Hilton Honors" points....

STAY AWAY from this location!!!

patty on 01/17/2013

we came in january 2nd, we were put in room 3307 (i think that was the room), when i awoke on thursday, i noticed some red marks around my ankle, i took a photo and sent it to my husband who responded with "bed bugs?" and that he too had a rash on his abdomen. i called downstairs and was given to security where i was advised to come down and fill out paperwork. when i arrived at security i had to fill out the paperwork and had them take photos. the security mgr on told me it didn't look like

bed bugs and maybe just a rash. in the meantime i needed to change rooms...that meant packing up all our stuff and he wanted us done in 30 minutes. We packed all our belongings, met with the exterminator and waited for the bellman. We moved from an updated, great view room to a dumpy old room with paint peeling from the ceiling and stains on the curtains (i'd of thought i'd of been treated a little better). Chocolate covered strawberries were brought to us by the security mgr as my kids and i were leaving, but no mention of the bed bugs...i lost 3 hours over this...mind u i was on vacation.

we never heard from anyone regarding the bed bugs the rest of the day and only had a message from a new security person asking if i was ok. i left 2 messages with the front of the hotel trying to get answers...no one returned my call.

on friday, i spoke to a relative in CT and told them i needed answers about the bed bugs before i could confirm visiting them, my aunt explained what "bed bugs" really meant and left me very concerned. I then left a message with the manager, i asked for the hotel manager to contact me. shortly after leaving the message for the hotel mgr to contact me, security calls my cell (i didn't give them that number so it's interesting that now they are concerned), i told them i only want to deal with the hotel mgr. The hotel mgr calls us while we were at the MoMA Museum and confirms that there were bugs in the room. It made me cry as i knew my rash was not from allergies like the security person told me.

when we got back to the hotel we had to pack all our belongings and give them to the hotel....kind of freaked us out. we lost many hours on this as well.

on saturday morning at 8:00 am, our clothes returned from dry cleaning...at 9:00 am the exterminator showed up to look through our bags for additional bugs.

while being bitten was bad enough, i felt that the hotel was looking to just "sweep" this matter under the mat had i not called in to confirm what was going on. It was poorly handled and i lost many hours having to deal with this situation...my rash has just gone away. i wish i had known about this site prior to going so i could research the hotel as to be honest i hadn't ever had to think of bed bugs before...now i know.

Me again (Anonymous on 10/14/2012). Got a call back from the manager who said he would investigate. Just called back again and...surprise, surprise...no evidence of bed bugs. So what are all these bites all over my body from after I slept at this hotel and before I slept anywhere else? Sorry, I think it's BS. Stay there if you want, don't if you think I might be right. I. for one, won't stay there again.

Stayed at this hotel Thursday & Friday night. After the first night I noticed spots on my back. Never considered bed bugs. After the second night they were all down my arm. The day I checked out I showed these itchy spots to someone and they said they thought they were bed bug bites. Called the manager and had to leave a message because it was Sunday. We'll see if he calls me back.

I sure hope I didn't bring them home with me!

6 days after I stayed here (9/22/2012) I began getting bit up every night. After two nights, I had a bed bug dog come in and bed bugs were confirmed. I am in the thousands of dollars in terms of diagnosis, treatment costs, dry cleaning and laundering my clothes. At this point, I will never go on vacation again, it is not worth it.

We checked the beds when we got into our room....nothing. 2nd night there...we saw one crawling across the bed while watching tv...ended up changing to another room that's older than previous and another room after that. Had to vacuum our suitcases and some clothes...ironed all the clothes...... The hotel took our clothes and dry cleaned them...waiting for them to be delivered to me anytime this week now.....

I stayed at the Hilton during a conference last week and was bitten on the face and arms. I've been travelling for work the last 12 years and have never come across bed bugs so I didn't know what it was, in fact I thought I was just having a skin reaction to pregnancy or something. Bed bugs didn't cross my mind until someone told me once they took a look. This hotel was an absolute nightmare for a business traveller, the internet is crap and so is everything else. Very unproductive and filthy,

Writing on behalf of a colleague who had a bedbug encounter but is too shy to come forward:

He woke up with 4 large bites under his arm after staying in room 3123.

The General Manager denied that bed bugs were the culprit, claming his staff checked the bedding. Again, bedbugs are not always easy to spot without the aid of visual instruments, so the hotel cannot possibly rule out bedbugs as the biting agents.

We will no longer be staying at this hotel.

I was bitten last night at the Hilton New York in room 753. I woke up with three large welts on my left arm and immediately suspected bed bugs since I was bitten by one a few years ago in college and spent several weeks going to doctors and hospitals trying to figure out why I had welts all over my skin. Luckly I jumped out of bed in time and found the bug scurrying across the sheets. I immediately killed it with a shoe and took several pictures of the dead bug and my arm with the bites. I calle

d the front desk and they sent security up. The security staff was very nice though they tried to downplay that it was a bed bug. I am not a fool and I have solid proof since I killed the insect and have seen them before. It was bagged by the staff and I was told to fill out an incident report. I will undoubtedly never stay at this hotel again and am still traumatized by the experience since I am very allergic to the bites. Needless to say I will be inspecting every square inch of my luggage, clothes and bags prior to heading back home.

"And it's ridiculous to say that you see them because they are microscopic and hide until there is no activity (AKA when you are sleeping)."

That's nonsense. Bed bugs are very visible, only the bed bug nimphes, when they not move, on certain surfaces are very hard to notice. Other than that, some people don't have blisters and itching from bites, so if the other people in the room don't have them it doesn't mean that there is no bed bugs. Also, they move around the house, you can see them on

the walls in the night, specially after midnight.

Bringing a large group to NYC in February and tend to book Hilton for corporate gatherings. I see that other Diamond level members have complained here and not received good treatment. I take it this hotel is not recommended due to Bed Bug concerns? I'm concerned about booking this hotel and then having my colleagues see this reports. Any suggestions on how to confirm we're safe booking at this hotel?

Realistic NYC Student on 12/11/2010

I'm a college student in NYC and in September 2010 I was convinced my dorm room had bed bugs. I had tiny little bites all over my body and I was really itchy but my roommate wasn't affected. I went to the doctor but it turned out that I gave myself hives from getting worked up about the NYC bedbug "epidemic". So seriously you people need to relax. Go to bed bath & beyond and buy pillow case and mattress covers if you must. They're actually great at keeping out allergens from down feathers. Anywa

ys just relax if you are the only one in the room with "bites" they are not bed bug bites. And it's ridiculous to say that you see them because they are microscopic and hide until there is no activity (AKA when you are sleeping).

I stayed here in August of 2010. I inspected the corners, the sheets, the mattress etc...and found nothing....except dust. Spent 3 lovely days in NYC. On the day of departure, I found a live bedbug crawling up the bathroom wall. I put it in a cup, took a picture and called management. It was suggested to me that I may have brought it in. However, after some discussion...I was given lunch and 2 nights complimentary. I was so afraid I would bring home those nasty critters. The hotel did offer t

o clean all my clothes and inspect my luggage. They told me , too, that they never had a problem there. Clearly, these hotels cannot deny there is a problem anymore. Hopefully, the maintenance staff and housekeeping can keep an eye out for blood stains, bug remnants and eggs.

I stayed in room 4054 last night. I woke up this morning and I had about 3 bites not far apart on one arm and about 6 bites close together on another. I did not think what it could be and then called someone and shared with them what happened. They had alerted me to this site and shared that there have been many situations reported all over NYC. Great location, but buyer beware.

CSI fan on 11/10/2010

We stayed at this Hilton from 11/5 to 11/8. Educated by this website and armed with flashlight/silk sleepingbags and trashbags for the luggage, we searched our room 1225 like a CSI investigation. No bed bugs, spotless clean and no bites to report. It is hard to eradicate this problem without everybodies willingness to participate ,that includes the guests. I see much more problems with the trunks of cabs, coat checks and plush theatre seating in NY, then with the actual hotel beds. Enjoy your st

ay at the Hilton, take some precaution and be prepared to be a bed bug snoop!

October 17-19, 2010. Wife and I inspected room, found no evidence. Took reasonable precautions (luggage not on floors and/or beds, etc). No evidence that any of the critters came back home with us.

wait a minute, you haven't even seen bedbugs at the hotel but because you saw some posts on this site you just assumed that every single person who posts on this site is legit about their reportings. hello it's the internet bud, this site is completely annomoyous there's absolutely no real way to verify whether postings on this site are real without physical proof such as photographs. i am booked in december, and i don't need this stupidity i wanna be able to enjoy my stay and not have panic att

acks over what i read here.

Anonymous on 11/07/2010

I called the hotel prior to a stay the last week of October and asked the front desk manager if the hotel had received any reports of bed bugs. He clearly told me that the hotel had received no reports of bed bugs and that they absolutely don't have a problem. I am returning to NYC and have a reservation at the NYC - Hilton on Ave of the Americas again in early December and looked at this website to see if there were any reports (I wasn't familiar with the website prior to my last trip). Ha

ving found numerous reports of bed bug bites on this website, I called the Front Desk Manager, Mahmood, on November 7 and confronted him with the many reports of bed bugs on this website and the fact that either he or one of his colleagues (I don't recall the name of the first front desk manager I spoke to) lied to me about no incidents of bed bug reports. He said that some of the reports could be food alergies. I then pressed him to say that ALL of the bed bug reports were false - he said he couldn't do so. Hence, the NYC - Hilton on Ave of the Americas has problems with bed bugs and I was LIED to prior to a recent trip and I am a Hilton Diamond member spending 75 nights a year in Hilton properties. Anyone want to bet on me keeping my December reservation? How about a second bet - my loyalty to the Hilton chain of hotels?

Anonymous on 11/04/2010

to the report below me, you were there for 3 nights and only the day you left you're noticing bites? can people only report bed bugs bites if they actually saw bed bugs or had any bites, y'all might think it's all fun and dandy but what about the guests who are booked at this hotel in the coming months that you're making feel nervous over this.

Thanks.

It was the week between Christmas and New Years 2008 at the Hilton on 6th. On the last morning of our trip, I woke up with 4 bites on my chest. At the time, I was hoping it wasn't bedbugs. There were no actual reports in 2008. But, now that I'm reading of others' experiences, they probably were bed bugs. As a precaution when I came home, I stored my luggage in another room for a while and unpacked it away from bedding and rugs, putting everything directly into the washer... so maybe that's why I

didn't have them at home after that.

WEB STAYED IN ABOVE HOTEL 7-12th inc OCT 2010 .ATROCIOUS ATTITUDE BY HILTON THE CLAIMED THAT THEIR EXTERMINATORS HAD NOT FOUND ANYTHING- MY YOUNG KID WAS BITTEN BY BED BUGS AND AGAIN THEY DENIED IT AND CLAIMED THAT HOTEL HAD NOTHING TO EXPLAIN THIS. WE WERE IN A QUADRUPLE ROOM AND THAT MEANS THAT ALL OUR STUFF IS INFESTED? WHAT DO PEOPLE DO IN THIS CASE? THIS WILL COST US A FORTUNE!

We also stayed here from 10/8/2010 - 10/11/2010. No sign of bed bugs at all on the 8th floor in room 851! Nice hotel. Quiet rooms. Glad we kept our reservation too. I would stay there again.

VaGrl on 10/13/2010

We stayed on the 40th floor from 10/8/10 to 10/11/10. After reading these posts, I almost cancelled my res, but decided to keep it. I checked the room THOROUGHLY with a flashlight when we got there -- mattresses, box springs, dust ruffle, furniture, behind artwork on the walls, etc. etc. Some places were a little dusty, but no sign of bedbug activity whatsoever, and none of us woke up with any bites. Glad we kept our res. Hotel was expensive but an awesome location.

SCalMom on 10/11/2010

We were worried because we read all of these reports. When we got to the hotel we checked every nook and cranny of our room. It was immaculate. We did not find any bedbugs anywhere and the room was sparkling clean. We stayed in room 3807.We had a wonderful stay without any bed bugs.

Disappointed on 08/14/2010

My husband & I stayed at the Hilton New York from 6/26-6/29/2010. My husband was bitten by bed bugs numerous times on his torso and undearm. We have notified the Hilton more than 11 times via email and phone calls/messages to resolve this issue, but continue to be ignored. We have been Hilton Honors customers for years. I am VERY disappointed in the Hiltons non-response!

Anonymous on 07/23/2010

I too stayed at the Hilton NY (Avenue of the Americas) during the week of April 7th,2010. I noticed bites right away but thought they were mosquito bites. Once I suspected that they were bed bug bites, I contacted the Hilton immediately. I went to the doctors and it was confirmed, bed bug bites!! I am so petrified! It is annoying, uncomfortable and no matter what I am doing or saying I always feel like something is biting me and I scratch 24/7. My house, my clothes, everything I own is infest

ed. In the process now of trying to get my house back to normalcy. Its a shame that a conglomerate such as the Hilton struggles with the fact that there establishments can/do have bed bugs. Do they not know there is an epidemic of bed bugs in new york right now, or do they live in a plastic bubble.

Anonymous on 04/15/2010

April 6-15, 2010 several bites showed up on my arms and legs after spending 9 days at NYC Hilton. I am dismayed.
