Bed bugs – Signs of an Infestation & How to Get Rid of Bed …

Bedbugs are small, oval, brownish insects that live on the blood of animals or humans. Adult bedbugs have flat bodies about the size of an apple seed. After feeding, however, their bodies swell and are a reddish color.

Bedbugs do not fly, but they can move quickly over floors, walls, and ceilings. Female bedbugs may lay hundreds of eggs, each of which is about the size of a speck of dust, over a lifetime.

Immature bedbugs, called nymphs, shed their skins five times before reaching maturity and require a meal of blood before each shedding. Under favorable conditions the bugs can develop fully in as little as a month and produce three or more generations per year.

Although they are a nuisance, they do not transmit diseases.

Bedbugs may enter your home undetected through luggage, clothing, used beds and couches, and other items. Their flattened bodies make it possible for them to fit into tiny spaces, about the width of a credit card. Bedbugs do not have nests like ants or bees, but tend to live in groups in hiding places. Their initial hiding places are typically in mattresses, box springs, bed frames, and headboards where they have easy access to people to bite in the night.

Over time, however, they may scatter through the bedroom, moving into any crevice or protected location. They may also spread to nearby rooms or apartments.

Because bedbugs live solely on blood, having them in your home is not a sign of dirtiness. You are as likely to find them in immaculate homes and hotel rooms as in filthy ones.

Bedbugs are active mainly at night and usually bite people while they are sleeping. They feed by piercing the skin and withdrawing blood through an elongated beak. The bugs feed from three to 10 minutes to become engorged and then crawl away unnoticed.

Most bedbug bites are painless at first, but later turn into itchy welts. Unlike flea bites that are mainly around the ankles, bedbug bites are on any area of skin exposed while sleeping. Also, the bites do not have a red spot in the center like flea bites do.

People who don't realize they have a bedbug infestation may attribute the itching and welts to other causes, such as mosquitoes. To confirm bedbug bites, you must find and identify the bugs themselves.

If you wake up with itchy areas you didn't have when you went to sleep, you may have bedbugs, particularly if you got a used bed or other used furniture around the time the bites started. Other signs that you have bedbugs include:

If you suspect an infestation, remove all bedding and check it carefully for signs of the bugs or their excrement. Remove the dust cover over the bottom of the box springs and examine the seams in the wood framing. Peel back the fabric where it is stapled to the wood frame.

Also, check the area around the bed, including inside books, telephones or radios, the edge of the carpet, and even in electrical outlets. Check your closet, because bedbugs can attach to clothing. If you are uncertain about signs of bedbugs, call an exterminator, who will know what to look for.

If you find signs of infestation, begin steps to get rid of the bugs and prevent their return.

Getting rid of bedbugs begins with cleaning up the places where bedbugs live. This should include the following:

If your mattress is infested, you may want to get rid of it and get a new one, but take care to rid the rest of your home of bedbugs or they will infest your new mattress.

While cleaning up infested areas will be helpful in controlling bedbugs, getting rid of them usually requires chemical treatments. Because treating your bed and bedroom with insecticides can be harmful, it is important to use products that can be used safely in bedrooms. Do not treat mattresses and bedding unless the label specifically says you can use them on bedding.

Generally it is safest and most effective to hire an experienced pest control professional for bedbug extermination.

Bedroom Guardian Review: How I Got Rid of Bed Bugs | Does …

Hi, Im Lara.

I made this site to helppeople like you andme.

I myself used to have a major problem with bed bugs. After my landlord refused to do anything about it, I took matters into my own hands and after a year of trial and error and a thousand bed bug bites later, I finallygot completely rid of them!

First off, anyone can get bed bugs, so dont feel bad! Theres a stigma attached to getting bed bugs but the truth is bed bug infestations are increasing rapidly across all major U.S. cities and are being found in apartments, condos, country homes, hospitals, businesses, hotels, and even fancy mansions.

Hopefully I can get you some relief from bed bugsmuch quicker than I got mine and save youthe time, headaches and trouble. I had my niece who isin college help me build this website, shes pretty web savvy (unlike me!) so thanks Leticia for your help my dear

Feel free to read my whole story with bed bugsand reviewof all the good, the bad and just plain uglybed bug products on the market I went throughon this site, but I also want to just cut to the chase and tell you which one I picked as the best in case youre in a crunch for time.

Were all busy people here.

Naturally, like most people I first contacted a professional pest control company. When I personally checked into pesticide services for my apartment unit, no pesticide company wanted to guarantee their work and the prices were astronomical. Plus the more research I did, the more I learned that most modern day pesticides have no effect on bed bugs.

Bed Bugs have been relatively absent for the last 60 years in modern society, and are only recently making a resurgence mainly because modern day pest control has zero effectiveness on eradicating bed bugs. And on top of all this pesticides not being effective nonsense, there still carries the risk of potential health threats from toxic chemicals in the insecticides and pesticides themselves!

I cant have my baby King James playing on the floor along the baseboards getting his hands in some Orkin bullshit and then he put his hands in his mouth. F a whole lotta that! So what else was there besides pesticide and keeping a clean domicile?

Many times companies will actually bring down heaters or these heaters are sold online to kill bed bugs by overheating them and then they eventually die. The heat treatments themselves and the heat treatment unit sold online are prohibitively expensive. And again, they dont work to kill all the eggs and stop bed bugs from coming back.

All they did was waste my time and money. You probably know the feeling too if youve dealt with bed bugs before. Heres a list of what I tried:

Steam Cleaning I rented a steam cleaner thinking this would get rid of the bed bugs, but it only got rid of the ones I could see, and they still all came back. I did get a cleaner carpet, but thats about it.

Orkin Exterminators Aside from all the chemicals, the treatments expensive as in it can cost up to $1,000 for treatments and again, no spray in existence has been known to completely eradicate bed bugs. They hate it but they wont admit it either. Plus the chemicals can be dangerous to pets and people.

Dead Bed Bug Spray This product didnt do it for me, and apparently I wasnt the only one. Bed bug repellant insecticide sprays just dont work and all available literature supports this fact.

Hot Shot Bedbug and Flea Fog This product just proves why these in-home self foggers dont work, at all!

The ZappBugg Heater looks and sounds great until you realize its mostly for clothes and its over 200 bucks, and will not solve your home bed bug problem infestation.

The Bed Bug Barrier Mattress Cover is nothing more than a weak attempt to sell a bed cover marketed for preventing bed bugs. Most of the time the material rips and its cheap price is only surpassed by its cheap quality.

Ichecked outRiddex, a sonar device that emits a high-pitched sound that clears the interior walls of mice, roaches, spiders, and other pests. Ultimately though I found online this product does not work against bedbugs.

FabriClear is often touted as being the go-to bed bug killing spray. Only problem is, even the government admits that no spray will even put a dent in an infestation. It may kill a few bed bugs, but you have to stop them from nesting and proliferating.

I found a product called Bedroom Guardian that worked for me out of all the other things I tried, all of which you can read about below in my full review. I liked Bedroom Guardian because (in 2014) it had very high ratings with the Better Business Bureau, good reviews on Yelp and on Amazon as well. Their service was prompt, I received their product in less than 5 business days from all the way across the country, and the instructions were simple.

**UPDATE**

However now in 2017 Bedroom Guardian has a a grade of F with the Better Business Bureau, and you can read about it here.

This reviewI found on the webwas the deciding factor thatconvinced meto getit because it sounded just like my situation and by the time Icame acrossit I was running out of options and patience. It felt like this guyin Fort Collins Colorado on Yelpwas speaking directlyto me:

I have an active infestation in my apartment that I could not remove, even after spending over $1200 USD on an exterminator. At best the exterminator was able to mitigate the problem temporarily, but soon enough the bed bugs were back and biting. I suspect that the bed bugs originated from my neighbors.

Anyway I found out about Bedroom Guardian through Google and gave them a shot. Compared to an exterminator, the cost of the product is minimal. Before I ordered the product, I called the Bedroom Guardian customer service line, and was able to speak to an expert about my problem. I explained to her my situation, and she advised how many units I need and exactly where I need to place them to stop my bed bug problem.

I provided my credit card details to Bedroom Guardian, and about a week later my Bedroom Guardian kit arrived in the mail. Although the kit did come with detailed instructions, I wanted to call Bedroom Guardian back just to make sure I was doing everything right. A lady named Margarete answered the call and she held my hand throughout the entire process.

After about 4 weeks noticed a significant reduction in the number of bed bug bites. I also felt like I had a much better nights rest. After another 5 weeks my bed bug problem was eliminated completely.

Margarete did tell me that I needed to replace the Bedroom Guardian product every 60 days, and to ensure there is no gap, Bedroom Guardian normally does send a refill every 60 days as explained on the website.

The only thing that I wasnt too crazy about is that the refill costs double. However compared to an exterminator, its chump change as they say.

The product costs $9.95 USD and each refill costs $19.90 USD. I love the peace of mind that this product gives me!

Since that review was written the initial charge is still $9.95 (awesome) but themonthly refill price is $24.90 now which Im personally not thrilled about but I just cancelled the refills around the3 month point anywaybecause the problem was under control completely in 6 weeks.

I essentially got a complete and total bed bug eradication product (that actually worked)for under $60 spread across 3 months when it was all said and done. You cant get layaway that great at K Mart or Rent-a-Center.

I ultimately decided to giveBedroom Guardiana shot and the rest is history as they say, but later I found another solution which was a better deal in fact so if youre thinking about buying Bedroom Guardian yourself, youll want to read this:

Bedroom Guardian sends you a small amount of product for the price. Sure the price is cleverly split up per monthbut youre paying extra money per unit for shipping every month and its automatic recurring billing so your credit card is going to keep getting charged!

Now I know for a fact the product works because Ive used it, but still it was not fun having to deal with thenegative aspects mentioned above like having to call and wait on hold for an hour to cancel their automated billing, which is why I actually recommend a product called Defensive End!because of the overall value. Mainly because while the price seems only marginally higher up front, you get more effective product (with some left over) with a one-and-done transaction and price, with no hassle.

Also it has the fastest shipping of any online bed bug product so you can expect to get it in the mail in5 to 7 days usually which was kind of a surprise to me.Anyone whos ordered something off of Amazon.com knows what its like to unexpectedly wait 3 weeks for something simple and well priced. Im still waiting on my therapeutic Oregano Oil!

*update (the Oregano Oil never came and I had to cancel after waiting several weeks)*

The important thing is I found something that worked for me and saved me money while avoiding toxic chemicals, and I hope youll find something effective and affordable too that works for you.

But before I actuallygot rid of those damnbed bugs it was pretty bad.

To this day I can stillfeel the shivers down my spine just revisiting and thinking about those flat, reddish brown, wingless insects turning fat, swollen, and redder just asI became their next meal night after night. Horrible little pests feeding on blood that are able to survive without food for up to a year. Hiding. Lurking. Travelling between different apartment units like blood suckingnomads. Theyre active when you sleep and latch onto your luggage as well as belongings when you stay at a hotel. Even 5 star hotels get bed bug infestations. Its got nothing to do with being dirty or clean.

So if you believe your home is safe from bed bugs, you better think again. I found out the hard way firsthand how these little buggers can be brought into your home via yourself after travelling or visitors staying in your home. How it probably started for me was my little Kevin either picked them up from some kids at school or they came through the walls from a neighboring apartment unit. Some of the people around where I stay are just plain dirty (and crazy) and dont give a damn like they live in the woods.

For me the bed bug problem got out of hand quickly. See, I learned that bed bugs love to spread and multiply like rabbits in the wild so my whole unit was soon a giant hangout and nightly feeding frenzy for bed bugs, plus it took me months and several lost dollars before I finally found something that actually worked which was both safe and affordable. Hell it took me a month before I even realized they were bed bug bites. I thought they were mosquitoes or spiders in the beginning. We dont have pets so I knew it wasnt fleas but we did have carpet. Strangely enough the solution I eventually found also kills ants, cockroaches, spiders, fleas, millipedes, and centipedes. Ill explain more about why it works like that in a sec.

Bed bugs bite at night usually when people are asleep, so I wouldnt feel anything until I woke up and itched really bad. Id have red spots down my arms and legs and my babies would have spots all over their backs. I didnt even realize it could have been bed bugs until I saw something on the news about them. Then it clicked.

I will survive. I will survive. As long as I know how to stop bed bugs I know Ill stay alive.

I checked my bed and the kids beds for tiny, reddish spots in the bed linens, bed skirts, mattress seams, sheets, bed frame, and pillow cases. I flipped the mattresses over and inspected every nook, corner and crevice I could find.

I started washing my bedding using the hottest temperatures allowed for the fabric. Sorry high-thread count Egyptian sheets, but them bed bugs got to go.

I would remove any clutter throughout the bedroom and house and make the kids clean up after themselves.

I inspected my entire home regularly, especially as soon as I had visitors overnight (once they left, I didnt actually inspect their belongings but cant say I didnt think about it!).

If I stayed in a hotel, family member or friends house I would keep my luggage far away from any dark potential bed bug hiding places. I would also check the kids backpacks and clothes for any possible bed bugs or stragglers.

I stopped collecting 2nd hand furniture. It simply wasnt worth the risk. I got my babies to think about and thats the easiest way to get bed bugs is in somebodys old sofa.

Even after these precautions, the bed bug problems persisted. So after many hours of research and sleepless nights of bed bug bites on me and my babies, I started to look for a bedbug repellant since my landlord that shit-for-brains wouldnt do anything about the problem. Oh but he can raise the rent every year!

What Bed Bugs are Attracted To

Bed bugs are attracted to 2 things: heat and CO2. Thats why they come out to feed at night, because youre a warm body in a bed breathing out a lot of warm carbon dioxide air At least I am.

All of a sudden I hit a turning point in my search to get rid of bed bugs.

It was like aswitch flipped on in my head. I knew there had to be something out there that could help even if I hadnt found it yet. I decided it had to be a natural bed bug repellent that actually worked, was 100% safe and not harmful to my kids who play on the floor, and it couldnt break the bank. I still have to get my niece something nice for her birthday coming up but I got to get this bed bug problem under control too.

After going through all the typical bed bug solutions on the market with no success, one day, I finally found something! Okay sogetting rid of bed bugswasnt something that happenedovernight, it was over the course of about 5 weeks for them to completely go away, but away they indeed went. And I noticed positive changes within the first couple of weeks. So what happened?

So glad to be rid of these nasty things

I found Bedroom Guardian by accident. The same way I found the bed bugs coincidentally. What I learned from the Bedroom Guardian website made sense to me and it seemed like a pretty low risk deal, so I decided to give it a shot.

I got it in the mail in about 12 days, which is a pretty long time considering and waiting for it that long while getting continuously bitten by the bugs sucked. When it finally arrived, the instructions were easy enough to understand but I noticed they failed to list the ingredients, which is a little concerning. I found out later that the ingredients that make this product work contain diatoms which are essentially microscopic fossilized remains of plants and sea phytoplankton. They are harmless to humans (actually some people eat it to reduce parasites in the digestive system) and farmers put it in their crops to fight pests naturally.

How Bedroom Guardian Works

Thediatoms in Bedroom Guardian are harmless to the touch of a human but are actually razor sharp microscopic particles that cut into and stick tothe abdomens and exoskeletons of arthopods, the family of insectsbed bugs belong to (as well asfleas, cockroaches, ants, spiders, millipedes and scorpions). So the bugs encounter the diatoms in Bedroom Guardianand it gets stuck in their bodies causing them to dehydrate and die in a matter of a few days.

Its like bed bugs walking through a field of sharp jagged glass chards and them not being able to do anything about it. Theres no chemicals involved and other bed bugs will not even attempt that area again.

Pretty crazy that this could be so easy and involve no chemicals and not cost a hugebucket of change.BGs cost isnothing compared to the costs and ineffectiveness of the other products I had used with no success and paid out the ass for.

I noticed good things started to happen after a few weeks. The bites got less and less until about week 4 or 5 when I wasnt getting bit at all. When I ordered I got 2, 1 for me and one for my babies room.Pretty soon none of us were getting bit any more and we could sleep easy. I still had some issues with anxiety from the bites but thats going away. The important thing is I got rid of the bed bugs!!!

Bedroom Guardian tripped me out. I didnt think it could be that safe, easy, or just creative and unique. Its like the easiest and simplest way was sitting there right before my eyes the whole time and I finally caught a glimpse. Glad I did too!

You canfinally get rid of the bed bugs once and for all or get something similar but better without the harmful effects to your credit or debit card. If you need help with your bed bug, flea, ant or roachproblem feelfree to hit me up with any questionsat larasmallman1980@gmail.com.

Not all reviews of Bedroom Guardian are great though. Heres a video of someone talking all about Bedroom Guardian and how to get rid of bed bugs without damaging your credit or dealing with a lot of hassle from a dishonest overseas company:

Thanks for reading my Bedroom Guardian Reviews! I wish you luck!

Top 10 Non-Toxic Ways to Control Bed Bugs | Maria’s Farm …

About a year ago, I wrote a very controversial blog post about bedbugs and global warming. I admit I was brainstorming rather than basing my thoughts on real research. Well, I finally got to meet a REAL scientist who studies bedbugs (hes an entomologist), and has researched them extensively. My theory was that CO2 in the atmosphere from global warming might be leading to the increase in bedbugs (bedbugs ARE attracted to CO2). I was wrong.

Yes. I was wrong.

Here is what has lead to the increase in bedbugs over the past few years: excessive use of pesticides to attempt to eradicate them! It turns out that bedbugs, like most insects, are very resilient to chemicals, and adapt quickly to become stronger and more resistant. Ongoing extensive study by Changlu Wang, PhD, extension specialist in the department of entomology at Rutgers University, has shown that employing nontoxic means of eradicating bedbugs are even more effective over the long haul than spreading toxic chemicals.

So here is my list of top 10 nontoxic ways to control bedbugs, based on Wangs talk at the Beyond Pesticides conference in Denver, Colorado:

1: Physically remove them by vacuuming and cleaning them up manually. Even though I do yoga, I do approve of killing bugs. Stomping is acceptable.

2: REMOVE CLUTTER. Bedbugs love to snuggle in piles of clothes, newspapers, and junk. Dr. Wang showed pictures of places where it was almost impossible to get rid of the bedbugs, and it had a lot to do with piles of junk and clothes and crap lying around. The more you remove clutter, the easier it is to keep bedbugs out.

3: Launder your bedding WEEKLY. And if have a bedbug problem, make sure that you use heat in the dryer. Bedbugs hate heat.

4: Encase your pillows and mattresses. Theyre easier to remove and clean on a regular basis.

5: Clean with a hot steamer. Again, bedbugs hate heat. Make sure to get around the baseboards and cracks (see number 2).

6: Put climb-up interceptors under the legs of furniture. One suggestion is to put the legs of your beds into cans of soapy water, but if that wont fly at your house, you can try applying petroleum jelly or Tanglefoot instead.

7: Open your windows! Since bedbugs love CO2, which by the way comes out of your mouth when you breathe as you sleep (yes, with your mouth open and drool coming out), opening a window disperses the CO2 in the room and makes it a much more unappealing environment for bedbugs to linger in.

8: Use a fan. Same concept as number 7. If the bugs cant find your pockets of CO2 because there is too much fresh air and wind, they will go to your neighbors house instead.

9: Make a dry ice trap with a dog dish. According to Wang, this really works! Put dry ice in a dog dish, and cover the outside of the dish with something the bugs can climb, such as a cloth or some paper. They will climb in for the CO2 and then wont be able to get out.

10: Try diatomaceous earth. A naturally occurring pest-fighter that comes from dead algae skeletons or something like that, you can get it online and should use it carefully, but it does work. I remember my grandfather using it, and its still considered organic. Thanks to the stuffs microscopically sharp edges, its the equivalent of putting tacks on the deck of a boat to deter pirates.

What if Another Tenant in My Building Has Bed Bugs?

Depending on factors like the city where you live and type of buildingyou live in,your landlord may be legally requiredto keepyour apartmentfree of bed bugs and other insect infestations. But what happens if the infestation isnt in your apartment? If your neighbor has bed bugs, is your landlord responsible? Is the affected tenant required to take any action? Most importantly, is there anything you can do before the bugs spread to your unit? Our apartment bed bug infestation attorneys explain some of the legal considerations tenants of multi-unit buildings should be aware of.

Bed bugs are notorious for their ability to spread rapidly. Thanks to the combination of short breeding cycles, large broods of eggs, and ever-increasing resistance against some of the most common types of insecticides and pest control products, it takes only a few months (and sometimes only a few weeks) for small populations to explode into full-blown infestations. While bed bugs are cause for concern in any living environment, these factors make them a particularly serious problemin crowded quarters for example, urban apartment buildings.

But how will you know if your neighbor has bed bugs in the first place? After all, you certainly cant confirm your suspicions by sneaking into his or her unit. However, bed bugs in high concentrations are known to emit a peculiar odor typically described as being sweet, musty, or similar to coriander, which you may be able to detect in the buildings hallways. The sudden appearance of bed bugs on your laundry, in your bed, or on your indoor pet is another clear indication that a population already exists somewhere inside the building.

Keep in mind that bed bugs are speedy travelers capable of coveringdistances of up to three feet per minute, soif theyve infested your neighbors apartment, its only a matter of time before they spread to your unit as well. Walls, ceilings, light switches and pipes are all pathways that bed bugs use to travel to seek out human blood.

But what, if anything, can you get the buildings landlord to do about it? Do renters have any legal recourse when it comes to apartment units they dont actually pay for? Or are you simply out of luck until the affected tenant him- or herself complains?

The answer depends partially on the building code in the communitywhere you live. However, while each town and cityis governed in part by its ownmunicipal code, these local codes are sometimessuperseded by the IPMC, or International Property Maintenance Code. The IPMC belongs to a family of national codes, such as the International Plumbing Code and the International Private Sewage Disposal Code, which are administered by the International Code Council (ICC). These codes are collectively referred to as I-Codes.

As we discussed in our previous blog post about landlord responsibilityfor bed bugs, some of the key IPMC factors which impact pest control liability are the total number of units in the building, and the type of dwelling it is. For example, oneportion of the codespecifies that renters in multi-unit buildings are responsible for bed bug extermination in cases where only the renters unit has bed bugs.

So what does this mean for you as a tenant? In some jurisdictions, any infestation in a rental unit is the property owner and/or operators responsibility. In other jurisdictions, as long asyour neighbors unit is the only one being affected, he or she assumesfinancial responsibility for addressing the infestation. However, if the infestation spreads to other units in the building yours, for example thenresponsibility for extermination measures can potentially shift to the landlord. Of course, each situation is different, and there are other factors that can become important when determining responsibility for treating an infestation.

If your landlord is considered responsible for handling extermination, he or sheshould always hire a licensed pest control company. In most jurisdictions, only licensed professional exterminators can safely (and legally)apply pesticides and other pest controltreatments, including heat treatment. Unfortunately, landlords often try to cut corners by relying on cheap and ineffective DIY treatments typically foggers or consumer-grade bug spray. Some landlords even attempt to perform heat treatment themselves, all to the extreme detriment of their tenants. If you sustain bite-related injuries because your landlord refuses to pay for professional extermination measures, you may be able to recover financial compensation by filing a personal injury claim.

In addition to the property code requirements supplied by the IPMC, many states have adopted their own bed bug lawswhich can alsoaffect landlords and/or tenants.

Arkansas, for example, prohibits tenants from knowingly mov[ing] materials into a dwelling unit that are infested with bedbugs. Thismeans your neighbor cannot intentionallybring his or her infested mattress, clothing, etc. into the building.

To provide another example, New Hampshires laws provide the following: Notenant shall willfully refuse the landlord access to the premises to evaluate whether bedbugs are present after the landlord has received notice that bed bugs are present in a dwelling unit adjacent to the premises or a dwelling unit that is directly above or below the premises. In other words, your neighbor cannotprevent the landlord from conducting an inspection, provided appropriate notice has been given.

If youre concerned that your landlord or other tenants in your building are violating state lawsor municipal health code, the bed bug litigation attorneys of Whitney, LLP may be able to help. Recovery can include fees you have wrongfully paid, and attorneys fees. To start learningsome of your options in a free and private legal consultation, call our law offices today at (410) 583-8000.

Bed Bugs | Multnomah County

Bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) are nuisance insects that feed on the blood of humans and other warm-blooded animals (including birds, rodents, bats and pets). Bed bugs are not exclusively nocturnal but are primarily active at night. Adult bed bugs are oval-shaped, smaller than an apple seed, wingless and reddish-brown in color. They are not known to transmit disease.

Bed bugs hide during the day in dark, protected areas such as cracks and crevices, windows, door frames, mattresses, picture frames, loose wallpaper, baseboards. Bed bugs can not travel far but are transported by humans by latching on to luggage, clothing, bedding and furniture.

Likelihood of a bed bug infestation increases where there is a high rate of occupant turnover, such as in hotels, shelters, airplanes, trains, and apartments. Typically infestations are not a reflection of poor hygiene or housekeeping.

Evidence of bed bugs can be identified in several ways:

What does this look like?

Call the Multnomah County Bed Bug Hotline at 503-988-BUGS (2847) if you think you may have an infestation.

Bed bug infestations can be controlled by following an integrated pest management approach. Integrated pest management uses multiple treatment methods and emphasizes minimal use of potentially harmful chemicals.
