British Columbia i /brt klmb/ (B.C.) (French: la Colombie-Britannique, C.-B.) is the westernmost of Canada's provinces and is known for its natural beauty, as reflected in its Latin motto, Splendor sine occasu ("Splendour without Diminishment"). Its name was chosen by Queen Victoria in 1858. In 1871, it became the sixth province of Canada.

The capital of British Columbia is Victoria, the fifteenth largest metropolitan region in Canada. The largest city is Vancouver, the third-largest metropolitan area in Canada and the second-largest in the Pacific Northwest. In 2009, British Columbia had an estimated population of 4,419,974 (about two million of whom were in Metro Vancouver). The province is currently governed by Premier Gordon Campbell.

British Columbia's economy is largely resource-based. It is the endpoint of transcontinental highways and railways and the site of major Pacific ports, which enable international trade. Because of its mild weather, the province is agriculturally rich, particularly in the Fraser and Okanagan valleys. Its climate also creates an environment for cultural and recreational opportunities. British Columbia hosted the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

The province's name was chosen by Queen Victoria when the Colony of British Columbia, i.e. "the Mainland", became a British colony in 1858. It refers to the Columbia District, the British name for the territory drained by the Columbia River, which has its origins and upper reaches in southeastern British Columbia, which was the namesake of the pre-Oregon Treaty Columbia Department of the Hudson's Bay Company. Queen Victoria chose British Columbia to distinguish what was the British sector of the Columbia District from that of the United States ("American Columbia" or "Southern Columbia"), which became the Oregon Territory in 1848 as a result of the treaty.

British Columbia is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west, by the U.S. state of Alaska on the northwest, and to the north by the Yukon and the Northwest Territories, on the east by the province of Alberta, and on the south by the U.S. states of Washington, Idaho, and Montana. The current southern border of British Columbia was established by the 1846 Oregon Treaty, although its history is tied with lands as far south as the California border. British Columbia's land area is 944,735square kilometres (364,800 sqmi). British Columbia's rugged coastline stretches for more than 27,000kilometres (17,000 mi), and includes deep, mountainous fjords and about six thousand islands, most of which are uninhabited.

British Columbia's capital is Victoria, located at the southeastern tip of Vancouver Island. The province's most populous city is Vancouver, which is not on Vancouver Island but rather is located in the southwest corner of the mainland (an area often called the Lower Mainland). Other major cities include Surrey, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Richmond, Delta, and New Westminster in the Lower Mainland; Abbotsford, Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge and Langley in the Fraser Valley; Nanaimo on Vancouver Island; and Kelowna and Kamloops in the Interior. Prince George is the largest city in the northern part of the province, while a village northwest of it, Vanderhoof, is near the geographic centre of the province.

The Coast Mountains and the Inside Passage's many inlets provide some of British Columbia's renowned and spectacular scenery, which forms the backdrop and context for a growing outdoor adventure and ecotourism industry. Seventy-five percent of the province is mountainous (more than 1,000metres (3,300 ft) above sea level); 60% is forested; and only about 5% is arable.

What Do Bites Look Like?

Everyone reacts differently to bed bug bites but the typical reaction is small, red, raised, itchy bumps. It is important to note that roughly 70% of people do not react to bed bug bites, when first bitten.

People can also experience a delay from the time they were bitten to the time it takes to react. This means you may not react to bites received the previous week until you have returned home.

No. All studies conducted to date indicate that there is no evidence to suggest that bed bugs are capable of transferring disease from one person to another.

The only source of nutrition for a bed bug is, you guessed it, blood! In order for a bed bug to mature into an adult it must feed once during each life stage. In order to produce eggs a female adult needs blood. Even though bed bugs bite humans they are not carriers of any transmittable diseases.

Bed bugs use their two elongated beaks to pierce human skin and extract blood. They use one beak to inject a saliva which contains an anesthetic to numb the area and help avoid detection, and with the other beak they extract the blood. After about five minutes of feeding the bed bug will return to its hiding place.

Bites are not painful and many people will not react at all making detection that much more difficult. Some people will develop itchy red welts over the next few days. If the area becomes swollen a small red welt may appear. This welt is often itchy and can last for up to a few days. Reactions occur as a result of the saliva injected during feeding. In the case of an extreme infestation and where children have been bitten there is a chance they can develop an iron deficiency.

Although some bed bug bites do not leave any marks, others can produce small red bumps or rashes. They usually do not appear for a day or two after being bitten. You should avoid scratching the area. Bed bug bites are often described as resembling mosquito bites. An indicator that it might be bed bug bites is the pattern of the bites. They often occur in a group or line of three or four and are usually on an area that would be exposed during sleep.

Bed bug bites do not transmit disease and will usually disappear within a few days. If a rash persists or becomes infected you should contact your doctor or a medical professional immediately.

MOBILE BED BUG TREATMENT | Green Heat Purification – Bed Bugs …

Many people find themselves in a dilemma. How do I move if I have bed bugs? Green Heat Purification has the solution! We have a mobile bed bug heat treatment trailer. How do you kill bed bugs while moving? We pick up your furniture in our Green Heat mobile bed bug trailer, and bring your belongings to our treatment facility. We treat your furniture over night, and return your belongings the following day.

In fact, this is the procedure that Manitoba Housing uses, and has been following this procedure for all Winnipeg inter-city moves for the past 2 years. This is one of the reasons why Manitobas fight against bed bugs has been so successful.

There are a few steps that will help make this procedure work. First, we arrange a time and a location to drop off our mobile bed bug heat treatment trailer. Our trailer is 25 feet long, so we need to arrange a time when we can legally leave the trailer on your street. At times, some streets have no stopping between certain hours. Unless you have a large driveway, we will need to work around the city by-laws. We leave the trailer with you as long as you need to move your furniture into the trailer. Since our trailer is 25 feet long, we can fit a large amount of furniture, however this will not be sufficient for a very large 4 bedroom home with a complete set of furniture for each room. If you have a large home, you will need to book two evening treatments to successfully remove your bed bugs. Next, we haul the trailer to our Green Heat storage facility, and connect our Heat Assault heat machine to the trailer and heat your furniture to 140 Degrees for 8-10 hours, overnight. Finally, we deliver your furniture to the location of your choice.

In order to make this procedure successful, we charge three separate fees. The first fee is for the heat treatment itself. Our mobile heat treatment is $750, as a flat rate. All mobile bed bug heat treatments incur the same flat rate heat cost. We also charge a per kilometer fee. We charge $1/KM haul fee. This haul fee is calculated from your location to our heat treatment facility. Therefore, if you live in Toronto, the distance is roughly 50 KMs to our mobile heat treatment facility. Finally, we charge an hourly load/unload fee. We charge $25 per hr for our load/unload fee. Therefore, if you require our trailer to be parked at your location for 3 hours, we will charge $75 for the load, and $75 for the unload. A typical Toronto mobile bed bug heat treatment will on average cost $1100.

There is no better solution to moving with bed bugs. Call us for more information, and book well in advance, as we are extremely busy, especially during moving season. A $250 deposit will be required in order to book our mobile heat treatment.
