St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) February 20, 2014
The bed bugs in Missouri were troubling St. Joseph Salvation Army. And in response to a report about it, My Cleaning Products shared a number of tips how to kill bed bugs and prevent their comeback.
In a report from stjoechannel.com published on February 18, 2014, it was said that the critters had been pestering the shelter for the past two years already. And to get rid of them for real, it stated that the management had set a plan for a bed bug treatment.
The report shared that the process would cost the shelter some $25,000. Despite that, it relayed that Salvation Army saw no reason to spend the amount.
For the duration of the bed bug treatment, the report said that the shelter would close temporarily. And as it added, the elimination process will start in the next few weeks.
Here is an excerpt from the post Bed Bugs Pester Missouri Salvation Army by My Cleaning Products.

Tests show Monkey Joe's does not have bedbugs
LEXINGTON, SC (WIS) -
A Lexington play center reports it is clear of bed bugs after one parent posted on social media that her child contracted bed bugs after visiting the business.
Monkey Joe's in Lexington had a preliminary inspection Wednesday morning by Cayce Exterminating and another review Wednesday afternoon by Bed Bug Detection Services in Isle of Palms, which came with a bed bug dog to do the inspection. Both inspections reported the play center is free of bed bugs.
Bed Bud Detection Service's report was also posted to the WIS Facebook page by an account linked to Monkey Joe's.
"At No time did the K9 alert for any signs of bed bugs," said the report. "No feces, castings or deceased bed bugs were found by the Handler after the K9 inspection."
"In an effort to be expedient as possible, we reached out to two separate pest control companies, one of which recommended the dog," said Kelly Ronna, a spokeswoman for Monkey Joe's. "It is our understanding that a human inspection is the most thorough possible; however, as we are taking this situation very seriously, we wanted to be as thorough as possible."
The bed bug report at Monkey Joe's surfaced on Facebook Tuesday when Lexington mother Nicole Struck said her 10-month-old daughter contracted bed bugs after her first visit to Monkey Joe's in Lexington on Feb. 4.
Struck posted pictures of the supposed bed bugs and wrote about her allegations on Facebook. She also contacted local media outlets to share her daughter's story.
Since authoring the post, Struck was contacted by Monkey Joe's employees to say the business had the inspections. Struck said her daughter is still recovering from the bed bug bites.
Monkey Joe's Lexington owner Brad Ballington said the business is cleaned weekly by Swisher Hygiene.

Let’s Beat the Bed Bug! – – University of Minnesota
Bed Bugs (Cimex lectularius)have recently reappeared in North American society and are making headlines as they infest not only apartment buildings and homes but also hotels and public spaces. With this website we aim to provide reliable information on bed bugs and suggestions for ways to deal with bed bug infestations. We do not endorse specific products or companies but instead discuss various methods that can be used in bed bug control.
Bed bugs have been a known household pest for over 3,300 years and were originally brought to North America by early colonists. In the 1950s bed bug populations had been greatly reduced in the developed world due to mass treatments with insecticides such as DDT, Chlordane and Lindane. Recently though, bed bugs have found ample opportunity to increase in number and spread through society. Their success is a result of: increased travel of people; improved treatment methods that specifically target other insect pests; and the lack of public awareness. Bed bugs have been reported in all 50 states.

What are bed bugs?
Bed bugs are small, flat, brown insects less than inch long, about the size of an apple seed. Bed bugs feed on human blood which can cause itching and welts. Bed bugs are a re-emerging pest. The scientific name for bed bugs is Cimex.
Bed bugs are found in most parts of the world, including South Dakota. As the name indicates, they often live in beds. They can infest homes, hotels, dorms or any place people gather. Bed bugs hide in cracks, seams, creases and corners of mattresses, bed frames, chairs, sofas, walls or furniture. The bugs prefer wood and fabric over metal or plastic. The bugs hide during the day and creep out at night tosuck blood. The actual bug is rarely seen, but the reddish-brown dots and smears of excrement are visible.
Who gets bed bugs? Anyone may be bitten by bed bugs if they sleep in an infested bed or sit in an infested chair.
How do bed bugs spread? Bed bugs are hitchhikers and are spread by moving beds, furniture, luggage or clothing from one room or building to another. The bugs are small and their eggs are very tiny so they may not be seen when infested furniture or luggage is moved into a new home or building. Once introduced bed bugs may spread throughout the whole building.
Do bed bugs carry disease? Bed bugs are annoying, but they are not known to carry diseases. Some people do not feel or react to the bite, and dont even know they have been bitten. Others are more sensitive developing welts and redness where bitten. Occasionally itching and scratching may cause secondary infections, which if severe may need medical treatment. The night-biting habits of the bed bug may disrupt sleep.
Controlling bed bugs. Bed bugs can be difficult to control. It is best to have a professional pest controller apply the insecticides to kill the bed bugs. A lay person can look for bed bugs or their droppings in the seams of mattresses, bed frame cracks, night tables, wall moldings, wall and floor cracks, wallpaper openings, etc. Specially trained dogs can sniff out bed bug infestations. Wash the bedding and clothes in very hot water and dry at full heat, clean the carpets, rugs and curtains. Repair wall cracks. Get rid of clutter. The mattress should be scrubbed, including the seams. An infested mattress and box spring should be sealed in a waterproof, hypoallergenic mattress cover for at least 12 months (same type of cover used to control dust mites, such as Allerzip), or throw the mattress out. If you throw out an infested mattress, chair or couch, label it with permanent marker Bed bug infested.

Bed Bug Infestation Forces OKC Woman Out Of Pine Ridge Apartments
Oklahoma City, OK -
A bed bug infestation forces an Oklahoma City woman out of her apartment.
Karen Bookout has lived at Pine Ridge Apartments on S.W. 63rd and Santa Fe for nearly a year.
"It's not my fault, you know, I didn't bring these bed bugs in here," Bookout said the bed bugs moved in last month.
Bookout said she complained to management, but they claimed it was her fault.
"She said where did they come from, and I said I don't know you tell me," Bookout recalled.
Soon after the complaint, management issued a pest control notice asking some tenants to bag their belongings for an exterminator.
Bookout said she tried to comply but was never given a date for when her apartment would be sprayed.
An eviction notice came next.
