Bed Bugs Muskegon City of Muskegon
There is a stigma attached to having bed bugs, one that assumes you are a dirty person or live in a dirty environment there is no truth to this whatsoever!
Bed bugs do NOT discriminate, they infest four star hotels just as aggressively as cheap ones, in fact, they have been found on buses, trains and even in schools and hospitals! Every time you vacation, you run the risk of bringing home bed bugs, the key is learning to recognize them BEFORE its too late!
The most common method bed bugs use to infest your home are through used furniture such as mattresses, bed frames and night stands. If you see an item near a dumpster or buying from a second hand store, make sure to check thoroughly BEFORE you bring it home!
In this section, were going to show you how to recognize signs of bed bugs and how to get rid of them should you accidentally bring one home with you.
A female bed bug lays 200 eggs in her lifetime with eggs being small, sticky, white rice like and hatch in only 10 days. The nymphs (babies) molt 5 times before entering adulthood (takes about 21 days) and after the first feeding, have a dark center. The adults look like an apple seed and are a quarter inch in length and feed on blood to survive.
Adults feed by sucking your blood for about 10 minutes sometime before dawn while youre in deep sleep and less likely to notice. After feeding, they defecate (leave feces) which looks like brown spots on the bedding. When there are a lot of bed bugs, youll smell a sweet musty odor.
The smell, dark spots and moltings are dead giveaways to their hiding spots. This is what youre going to look for when search for bed bugs.
In the image shown here which is an infested mattress, you can clearly see the bed bug, the moltings, eggs and feces. This was discovered after the victim was convinced her house was clean and shows how well they can hide!

Bed Bug Report for 1205 Yukon St, Lakewood, CO
Nancy on 04/27/2010
Twin Arms Apartments is under new management and they have worked to try and alleviate the bed bug problem in my apartment. Fortunately, I believe the bugs are gone now.
Nancy on 04/13/2010
Bed bugs were present in Twin Arms Apartments at 1205 Yukon St Apartment #102, Lakewood CO 80214 from January to April 2010. A professional exterminator was used twice to spray for the bed bugs. Hopefully they are gone now.
I started to develop welts in January on my arms and had no idea where they were coming from, so I went to a dermatologist. They biopsied the welts and determined they were hives, but couldn't tell me what they were from, so I just dealt with the welts.
I had never h
ad to deal with anything like this, so I didn't know what to look for (i.e., the black spots on bedding, etc.). I discovered a few bugs in late February and early March but didn't know what they were. I went to the Denver Butterfly Pavilion in early March and they had a poster with a description of what bed bugs were and the signs to look for. They also had a sample of a bug, so I finally knew what they were. Thank you to the Pavilion. I contacted my apartment complex and they had my apartment sprayed by an exterminator in mid March. When I kept seeing the bugs they sprayed again two weeks later. I am not seeing any signs as of mid April, so I think they are gone.
This has been the worst experience I have ever been through. The psychological stress of not being comfortable in my own bed was the worst. But, having to prepare for the exterminator was also stressful. I'm glad it is done, and now I know what to look for in the future.

Alaska’s Bed Bug Problem Grows | Local News – KTUU.com …
ANCHORAGE, Alaska -
Bed bugs, known throughout the nation as bloodsucking parasites, are seeing a resurgence nationwide -- including Alaska.
At the Alaska Forum on the Environment, experts talked about bed bugs and how to prevent them Thursday. Katie Burbage, an environmental health specialist for the Tanana Chiefs Conference, says bed bugs can't transmit disease but still are a health risk.
"There's definitely a yuck factor with them," Burbage said. "They come out at night and feed on you...that's a little creepy."
Lief Albertson, with the University of Alaska Fairbanks' Cooperative Extension Service, says there's a growing bed bug concern in rural Alaska. In addition to the health risk they pose, any rumor about a lodge or inn having bed bugs could have a devastating economic effect on the area -- but Albertson says the problem is manageable.
"You want to get rid of a lot of clutter," Albertson said. "Once you do that step you do things to simplify that environment to eliminate places for bed bugs to hide."
For more information on how to prevent or get rid of bed bugs you can visit the Cooperative Extension Service's website.
