Woman says apt. pest control ruining her life
DENVER - Pests in your home can be a nuisance, but one woman says the practice of getting rid of those pests in her apartment complex is turning her life upside down.
A 9NEWS viewer contacted us and says Pinnacle Real Estate Management has a contract with a pest control company that sprays every two weeks.
The woman, who wanted to remain anonymous, says she's never seen bed bugs or cockroaches in her place at in the 1400 block of Jersey Street in Denver, but every two weeks, she has to pack up her life for spraying.
"It doesn't even seem like home," she told 9NEWS, "because we're always packing up everything."
The viewer says she's been living in the building for almost a year. The previous management company sprayed every month. The new one, Pinnacle Real Estate Management, has been spraying for cockroaches and bed bugs every two weeks.
This means residents have to pack up their belongings every single time.
"Clean out every closet, floorboards of every closet, pack up the bathroom, pack up bedroom, lift up the bed, closet in the bedroom, kitchen, pack up the kitchen, every dish," she said. "Pots and pans in the kitchen, including the living room, pick up everything and pack it away in a bag and cover it."
Pinnacle Property Management refused to talk to 9NEWS on camera.
9NEWS has left a message for Best Buy Pest Control, which is the company the property management company uses to spray for bugs.
The viewer says she's had just about as much luck with both of those parties herself.

Kalamazoo/Grand Rapids/Battle Creek region ranks in Top 50 for bed bugs
KALAMAZOO Searching for bed bugs may be something to consider while spring cleaning this year because the blood-sucking insects are not going away.
We are as busy with bed bug work this year as we were last year and actually a little bit more, said Jim Nelson, the district manager for Rose Pest Solutions. Certainly in assisted living and senior citizen homes and student housing, thats the predominant intensity for bed bugs right now.
Nelson said the company is seeing an increase in calls from single-family homes, as well.
Rollins Corp. pest-control released its 2011 list for the top 50 cities with bed bugs and the Kalamazoo/Grand Rapids/ Battle Creek region was ranked 39 in the nation. The good news: the region dropped 17 places from its ranking in the 2010 survey.
Can I get diseases from bed bugs? There are currently no known cases of disease associated with bed bug bites. Bites usually look like little red bumps, sometimes resembling mosquito bites. Most people have mild allergic reactions resulting in small, itchy welts.
How do bed bugs get into beds? They are often carried on objects and clothing. They hide in tight cracks and crevices on or near peoples beds and come out at night.
How do I get rid of them?See the Michigan Department of Community Healths website -- michigan.gov/bedbugs -- for informational pamphlets, guidance and links to a list of state licensed pest management professionals.

Allegations of bed bugs at Pearl apartments
PEARL, MS (WLBT) -
Kelly Lancaster and her husband and children lived in apartment 49 at the Colonial Terrace Apartments in Pearl for several months, but moved out Thursday.
She says the apartment is full of bed bugs, and her family is covered with bites.
"We have a one-year-old, she's gotten bitten up really bad in her face, all over her back," Lancaster says.
"I mean this is awful. I had to buy scar cream," she says, showing us the welts on her back, arms, and legs.
Pamela Freeman lives directly upstairs.
"I had to put tape up where they were coming in at," she says, showing us where shehas sealed up her home in the corners and around the windows. She also sprays her bed every night, but she says the bed bugs still get in.
"Each time they feed, they shed. They grow," Freeman says. "My neighbor, she's got (bites) all over her."
Lancaster and Freeman say they've complained to management about it, and efforts have been made to treat the problem.
"They came in, heated our apartment to 140 degrees twice, sprayed some type of kerosene. It did nothing. We've thrown out our beds, everything," Lancaster says.

Bed Bugs Blamed for Increased Furniture Need
Reporter: Mark Kelly l Videographer: Parker Slaybaugh
Lynchburg, VA - It looks like bed bugs are making a comeback. And, the critters are really taking a toll on one Lynchburg non-profit. Interfaith Outreach says action has to be taken.
Interfaith Outreach gives furniture to qualified, needy families that don't have any. In its inventory, the organization has all types of furniture - chairs, tables, even dishes - but say their waiting list for beds is possibly the longest it's ever been. And, they blame the bed bugs.
Inside the Interfaith Outreach warehouse, furniture is piled high. There are beds too. But, Executive Director Shawne Farmer says not enough! The requests for full and twin size beds keep piling up, reaching record levels.
"That's going to be well over 100 by the end of April. And our norm for bed pieces of 80, 84 for a year," said Farmer.
Farmer blames these bed bugs. Her clients, the neediest of the needy in central Virginia, are losing their beds, even their homes, to bed bug infestations.
Assistant Director Donna Snow runs Interfaith's furniture program. Her clients have had bed bug horror stories.
"Her father had made bed frames for the children's beds, and just a couple months later they found out they had the bed bugs. And so everything had to be tossed," said Snow.
"They can get in the wall, furniture, clothing, your hair," said Farmer.
But, steps can be taken to squash the bug.
