Alberta

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. [+]

Alberta /lbrt/ is a province of Canada. With a population of 3,645,257 in 2011 and an estimated population of 4,082,571 as of January 1, 2014,[1][3] it is Canada's fourth-most populous province and most populous of Canada's three prairie provinces. Alberta and its neighbour, Saskatchewan, were established as provinces on September 1, 1905.[4]

Alberta is located in western Canada and is one of Canada's three Prairie Provinces. It is bounded by the provinces of British Columbia to the west and Saskatchewan to the east, the Northwest Territories to the north, and the U.S. state of Montana to the south. Alberta is one of three Canadian provinces and territories to border only a single U.S. state and is also one of only two provinces that are landlocked.

Edmonton, the capital city of Alberta, is located near the geographic centre of the province and is the primary supply and service hub for Canada's crude oil and also oil sands (Athabasca Oil Sands)[5] and other northern resource industries. Approximately 290km (180mi) south of the capital is Calgary, Alberta's largest city. Calgary and Edmonton centre Alberta's two census metropolitan areas, both of which have populations exceeding one million,[6] while the province has 16 census agglomerations.[7] Notable tourist destinations in the province include Banff, Canmore, Drumheller, Jasper and Sylvan Lake.

The current Premier of the province is Dave Hancock.

Alberta is named after Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (18481939),[8] the fourth daughter of Victoria, the Queen of Canada until 1901, and Albert, Prince Consort. Princess Louise was the wife of the Marquess of Lorne, Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883. Lake Louise and Mount Alberta were also named in honour of Princess Louise.[9][10]

Alberta, with an area of 661,848km2 (255,500sqmi), is the fourth largest province after Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbia.[11] To the south, the province borders on the 49th parallel north, separating it from the U.S. state of Montana, while on the north the 60th parallel north divides it from the Northwest Territories. To the east, the 110th meridian west separates it from the province of Saskatchewan, while on the west its boundary with British Columbia follows the 120th meridian west south from the Northwest Territories at 60N until it reaches the Continental Divide at the Rocky Mountains, and from that point follows the line of peaks marking the Continental Divide in a generally southeasterly direction until it reaches the Montana border at 49N.

The province extends 1,223km (760mi) north to south and 660km (410mi) east to west at its maximum width. Its highest point is 3,747m (12,293ft) at the summit of Mount Columbia in the Rocky Mountains along the southwest border, while its lowest point is 152m (499ft) on the Slave River in Wood Buffalo National Park in the northeast.[12]

With the exception of the semi-arid steppe of the southeastern section, the province has adequate water resources. There are numerous rivers and lakes used for swimming, fishing and a range of water sports. There are three large lakes, Lake Claire (1,436km2 (554sqmi)) in Wood Buffalo National Park, Lesser Slave Lake (1,168km2 (451sqmi)), and Lake Athabasca (7,898 square kilometres (3,049sqmi)) which lies in both Alberta and Saskatchewan. The longest river in the province is the Athabasca River which travels 1,538km (956mi) from the Columbia Icefield in the Rocky Mountains to Lake Athabasca.[13] The largest river is the Peace River with an average flow of 2161 m3/s. The Peace River originates in the Rocky Mountains of northern British Columbia and flows through northern Alberta and into the Slave River, a tributary of the Mackenzie River.

Buying Bedbug products in Canada Got Bed Bugs …

From what I've been reading, it is crystalline silica (like the kind in pool-grade, I believe) that is cancer-causing. The DE from the green earth people should be crushed diatoms, and is not refined crystalline silica, so I don't think we have to worry too much about cancer, though I would not be inhaling it either...

Quote from here: http://eap.mcgill.ca/Publications/eap4.htm "The only health precautions that need to be taken are that if large areas are being treated with a power duster, the applicator should wear a mask to prevent inhalation. Because DE is made of silica, people sometimes mistakenly think that DE causes silicosis. As indicated above, however, pesticide quality DE is usually over 97 per cent amorphous silica, which does not cause silicosis, which is associated only with crystalline silica. Indeed, inhalation of road dust and grain dust IS likely to be more harmful than DE."

Quote from WHO: http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs238/en/ "Work in mines, quarries, foundries, and construction sites, in the manufacture of glass, ceramics, and abrasive powders, and in masonry workshops is particularly risky."

Workers in those fields can develop lung cancer after years of on-the-job exposure.

Bed Bugs In Georgia

Bed bugs are very small insects with scientific name Cimex lectularius. Through the decades, these insects are considered notorious pests in different countries, be it in the US, in Europe, in Asian countries and even in Africa.

When seen from the top bed bugs look like flattened creatures, and for sure, you wouldnt want to look at them at any other angle. They are so small, that one can hardly see and look at them, unless aided by magnifying glasses or lenses.

You have your own perception, as well as opinion of how bed bugs look like. But generally, as seen in pictures printed all over text books, magazines or even online through the Internet, bed bugs closely resemble their closest relativesmites.

Bed bugs are fast becoming pest problems in many countries, including the United States. Bed bugs are becoming a very rapidly populating pest, particularly in Georgia.

Eliminating bed bugs in Georgia

There are numerous ways to kill bed bugs in Georgia. The simple method is to capture them one by one, and try to ground them out. That would certainly kill them, but it will be tedious, gross, and will surely try your patience.

Applying pesticides or insecticides to infested areas can be a good and effective technique. But doing so would pose a lot of threats not only to your health but also to the health of everyone in the house. There are government laws in Georgia that will prevent you from doing so easily.

To ensure that no human can be exterminated along with the bed bugs, it would be wise to seek help of a credible and professional pest control company. There are several of those in Georgia. Pest control companies in Georgia know how to get rid of bed bugs better and effectively.

This measure can be considered the cheapest in the long run. You may have to pay a little sum for the services of these Georgia-based pest control firms but you do not have to keep on buying pesticides on Georgian pest shops or other modern equipment claimed to help get rid of bed bugs.
