GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - The owner of the assisted living facility battling a bed bug problem is not only speaking with WMBF News Anchor Heather Biance, she gave Heather a chance to scope out the facility herself.

When our story aired last Thursday we told you the owner of Oasis Residential Home hadn't had a professional exterminator out at the facility, but that's changed since our last visit.

"It's possible that it could be in most of the rooms, just in group living, it's hard to contain," explains Oasis Residential Home Administrator Mazie Graham.

Battling bed bugs is becoming a full-time job for her.

Graham explains, "It's actually been about a year, but it wasn't a big problem. It'd be one or two bed bugs here or there."

Since then, just when she thinks she has it under control, they resurface.

Graham says three months ago, she changed her tactic from treating whenever it became a problem to an aggressive plan: from using commercial grade chemicals, steaming the furniture, bombing the facility and putting plastic covers on the beds, this is now the drill twice a week.

"We even covered up the zippers on the plastic covers on the beds, because they say they can get in that way,"Graham says.

Oasis came under scrutiny last week when a former employee and someone who was contracted to clean the floors came forward, disgusted with the living and work conditions.

"With me working night shift from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., so I was getting bit also by bed bugs," explains former Oasis employee, Rochelle Greene.

Senior living center battles bed bugs after WMBF Investigation

A Lodi theater was temporarily closed after several moviegoers complained they were bitten by bed bugs while watching a movie.

After the Lodi Stadium 12 Cinemas closed its doors Sunday following complaints, a pest control company found "small pockets of bed bugs in limited areas of our theater," according to Catherine DePrima, a spokeswoman for Santa Rosa Entertainment Group, which operates the theater.

Pest control employees were working throughout the week to exterminate the bugs and found no live bed bugs Wednesday.

The company plans to reopen the theater Thursday and perform regular inspections throughout the year, DePrima said in an email to The Times.

We are battling bed bug infestations in many places in Californias Central Valley and are confident in the service that we are providing the Lodi Stadium 12 Cinemas theater complex," DePrima said. "Their pest issues are limited and under control. The theater will re-open tomorrow as planned.

Two girls, who watched a movie at the theater on Friday, told FOX40 they woke up the next morning with hundreds of tiny red bites on their arms and legs.

Bed bugs force Lodi movie theater to temporarily shut its doors

Some residents of Pearl are fired up because of a bed bug infestation problem at their apartment complex.

Tenants say the problem has been going on for years at the Colonial Terrace Apartments, but why hasn't it been fixed?

We first reported bed bug problems at Colonial Terrace back in 2012. Now more people have called 3 On Your Side seeking help.

Gwen Roberson, was one of those calls. She showed us the furniture she had to toss because her apartment is full of bed bugs.

"They're everywhere crawling through the walls, crawling through my furniture," Roberson explained. "I had to throw my kids bed set out, I had to throw away my living room set."

She's lived at Colonial Terrace for 7 months and says the bed bug infestation is getting worse. Her son is now covered in bites.

"My son had been coming to me for a couple of months now with bite marks on him but I didn't realize what they were," said Roberson. "I thought they were mosquito bites."

Other tenants have also come forward and given us photos.

"They have sprayed my house three different times and I'm still infested with them," said one tenant.

Sixty-eight-year-old Vietnam veteran Karl Epperson thought his fighting days were done, but for the past three months he has been in the heat of battle, a battle with bedbugs.

"You can't sleep because they come up in the bed with you," said Epperson.

A short-sleeved shirt revealed raspberry-sized bug bites that spotted his arms.

Epperson has lived in the privately owned Overlook Apartments in the Westside for nearly a decade, but contemplates moving because of the creepy crawlers.

Overlook management officials could not be reached for comment.

At least a dozen bedbug infestations in Chattanooga hotels and public places have been reported to the Hamilton County Health Department within the past two years, said Bonnie Deakins, director of environmental health.

The Health Department gives hotels with infestations 10 days to get rid of them and the hotel has to close the infested room until they do.

Bedbugs don't carry disease, Deakins said, but they are hard to exterminate. The problem is getting to them. They're in the cracks of the walls, inside the mattress and in the bed, said Deakins.

"It's been a big problem within the past eight years or so," she said. "For years we didn't see them but apparently they've become resistant to the pesticides."

Epperson said that Overlook Apartment officials called an exterminating company for his unit but that they didn't eliminate the pests. There are scuff marks on his wall from where he has tried to kill some with bug spray and a fly swatter.
