Over the past several years there has been an ever increasing rise in the bed bug population. Any home can become infested with bed bugs because of their ability to multiply quickly and travel easily. Infestations can cause anxiety, secondary infections , allergic reactions and financial hardship. While bed bugs are not known to spread disease, their bites can get infected if scratched excessively, they can also cause severe psychological distress with stigmatic issues associated.
Bed bugs are parasitic and feed mainly on human blood. Their bites can cause a reaction (to 30% of people) and form small red welts similar to mosquito or flea bites, sometimes in a distinctive linear pattern or cluster and with a distinct center point.
Eliminating bed bugs as soon as possible when you notice the infestation is extremely important, and no one can give you the thorough and accurate services youll get from Bed Bug Authority Canada.
Heat treatment is our preferred primary method of bed bug extermination since we can achieve the desirable final result, complete eradication with one procedure.
The equipment we use is purpose designed and built for Dr M. Linford PHD (entomologist) of Green Tech Heat Solutions for bed bug extermination. Dr Linford is the forefather of the thermal remediation process.
Our choice of equipment is based on performance and the fact that it is true, tried and tested over decades of safe and successful use in the industry. It is by far the most flexible, where each stand-alone unit is rated at 500,000 BTUH (A typical, average home gas furnace is rated 70,000 BTUH). This high performance puts us in a position where we can guarantee success and avoid a prolonged home evacuation and the high rate of failures of other methods.

When youre deciding on the professional exterminators to hire, make sure that you are not scare mongered into choosing a company using inferior systems. Some heat treating companies will openly discredit the use of gas powered heating units among others to validate their own lesser performing technology. Their misleading statements are of no benefit to the consumer and are only to promote their business.
Read our reviews, ask for references, and refer to the Better Business Bureau. We are all members of SPMAO, CPMA and NPMA are credible insured and licensed exterminators.
We can treat apartments and condos in high-rises (no height limit), townhouses, semi detached or detached houses of any size in the Ontario area. This insect has a famous history as a bloodsucker and is named due to its tendency to feed on a bed's occupants at night. The bed bug primarily attacks humans but can feed on any warm blooded animal such as birds, mice, and pets. The bed bug is found worldwide and probably came to the US from Europe in the 17th century.
Adults are just under a 1/4" long and are relatively flat, nearly as wide as long, and oval in shape compared to most other insects. The color is brown to reddish brown. The body may have short golden hairs and will exude a "sickening sweet" smell from glands on its body.
Commonly, the first sign of bed bug infestation is the appearance of small brownish or reddish dots on bed linens. These are fecal spots or droppings on the surface of linens from these bugs. Occupants may also notice swelling where they have been bitten.
An infestation of bed bugs is NOT evidence of unclean or unsanitary living areas. World class hotels have reported bed bug infestation in recent years perhaps due to the increased domestic and international mobility of society in the past few decades.
Female bedbugs can lay over 500 eggs over a lifetime and each bed bug will molt or shed its shell five times as it grows and a blood meal is required for each molt. If blood meals become scarce, bed bugs can slow their life process until a blood meal source is found. The saliva of the bed bug may cause a swelling on most people when they are bitten but they do not leave a wound. Swelling may include redness in some sensitive people.
The bed bug is able to crawl into very small crevices in and around the human environment. These include between mattresses, seams in bed linens, upholstery, behind wood trim, inside electrical boxes, in floors, behind wallpaper, and in any other area near a blood meal that will hide a very thin insect.
Note, however, that bed bugs will move distances at night for a blood meal which is why infestations occur throughout bedroom areas, so merely washing bed linens or other infested areas might not eliminate the source. Bed bugs are also excellent at relocating by hitching rides in luggage, boxes, shoes, and any other mobile material.
Pest management professionals are often asked what individuals can do to avoid bring home a bed bug problem. Vacuum suitcases after returning from a vacation and then seal and dispose of the vacuum bag. When staying at a hotel always check your bed sheets and behind the headboard for tell-tale blood spots before unpacking your luggage.
Bed bugs are elusive creatures, so it is imperative to seek professional pest control to address an infestation. The first step of control is to have a professional thoroughly inspect the area. Here at ProTech we enjoy the services of Roxy, our trained and certified bed bug detection canine. This inspection is required to determine the places where the bed bugs are living.
Once the inspection is complete, your ProTech Pest Control professional will determine the proper type of control technique; treat the area and will return for a follow up service and inspection.
Heat is the most effective tool available for complete eradication of bed bugs and their eggs. When exposed to temperatures above 113F their cells stop working and their body tissues dry up leading to death within minutes.
Since every structure and situation is unique we employ various types of heaters to achieve our goal. As we introduce pure heat into the treatment zone we use powerful fans to distribute it evenly to all areas. This convection processes forces heat into beds, furniture, electronics, wall voids and clothing. To ensure proper treatment we will need to open all drawers, closets, bags and boxes, furniture may need to be moved and beds taken apart. Our technicians use wireless probes (under carpets, behind baseboards, inside mattresses, etc) to continuously monitor temperatures and insure success. Once temperatures above 130F have been recorded in all areas, we will continue to heat for an additional 3-4 hours. The entire process takes 6-10 hours, we will ask you to leave after breakfast but you may return in time for dinner. Not only does our safe, green heating process kill bed bugs, it also kills bacteria, viruses, allergens and spores.

How to Identify Bed Bugs | Ehrlich Pest Control
Bed bugs look different depending on their stage of life. They are very small and hard to see. No matter what life stage the bed bug is in, they are tiny and during their egg and early nymph stages they are whitish or even translucent. When a bed bug has not eaten in a while they are flat and about the same rough size, shape and even color of an apple seed.
Bed bugs are a potentially serious pest for people, but they can be confused for other insects. In order to provide the right and most effective treatments, bed bugs must be correctly identified and found. If even one batch of bed bugs is missed, a whole new infestation can occur.
Ehrlich Technicians have received specialized training to properly identify bed bugs in all of their life stages.
Think you have bed bugs? Need help determining for sure? Call Ehrlich today at (888) 976-4649 for advice and to schedule a FREE bed bug inspection of your home or business.
Bed bugs are about the size of an apple seed and are mahogany or brownish in color. They change color throughout the course of their life. Eggs are very small elongated shapes that are whitish or almost translucent. After they hatch bed bugs are considered nymphs and their early stages they are also white, but get darker with each segment of their life cycle.
There are some other insects that resemble bed bugs. Some of them can bite like bed bugs, but mostly they are parasites or pests for certain animals. These include:

Bed Bug Information – California Hotel & Lodging Association
Understandably, the traveling public has become concerned about bed bugs in light of recent media reports around the world. That said, travelers rarely encounter bed bugs and most members of the general public have never even seen a bed bug. This increased public awareness has helped travelers to be aware and, if necessary, modify their behaviors to minimize the risk of a bed bug infestation.
Bed bugs have been household pests for over 3,000 years, however, were all but eradicated in the developed world in the 1950s, through new pest management controls, widespread use of vacuum cleaners and washing machines. The resurgence largely began in the late 1990s with more targeted pest control products and methods, increased international travel and a lack of public awareness.
According to a recent University of Kentucky study, a person is almost one-third more likely to encounter bed bugs at home rather than at a lodging property. Additionally, bed bugs should not be equated with filth or sanitation problems bed bugs are not known to carry any diseases to humans and are only a nuisance.
One benefit to the increased media reports is also increased prevention. Especially in the hotel industry, prevention and control is a top priority the satisfaction of our guests is of paramount importance. Finally, just because someone anonymously reported bed bugs at a particular hotel, does not mean there are bed bugs at the hotel. Many of these reports have been linked to disgruntled guests and even competitive hotels, and shown to be false claims. Even if it says on the internet that a hotel has bed bugs and a hotel has unfortunately had bed bugs, most likely by the time this information was posted on the internet, the bed bugs have been eradicated.
Below are several useful resources for basic bed bug information, frequently asked questions and prevention tips, as well as information on what the hotel industry is doing to educate hoteliers and prevent infestations at lodging properties.

Bedbug bites: When bedbugs bite, you often see clusters of bites. Each cluster usually contains 3 to 5 bites that appear in a zigzag pattern. How do you know if you have bedbugs?
To find out if you have bedbugs, you need to look for two things:
Bites on your body: If you have bedbugs, youre likely to have bites. Bedbug bites usually cause itchy welts. These welts usually appear in a zigzag pattern as show in the photo above.
Youll seldom see bedbugs, so many people mistakenly believe that mosquitos, fleas, or spiders bit them. Sometimes people mistake bedbug bites for a common skin condition such as an itchy rash, hives, or chickenpox.
To make sure you have bedbugs, youll need to look for signs of bedbugs.
Although bedbugs dont usually require serious medical attention, they can cause a great deal of anxiety and restless nights. To help find bedbugs before they find you (and your belongings), dermatologists recommend looking for the following signs near places where you sleep.
Signs of bedbugs: This step is important. If you have a bedbug infestation, you need to find out so that you can get rid of the bedbugs. Getting rid of the bedbugs is the only way to stop the bites.
If you have a large number of bedbugs, you may see the bugs. Most people, however, only see signs of bedbugs. To look for signs of bedbugs, check the places that people sleep for the following:
If you see bedbugs, they will likely scurry toward the closest hiding place. Any dark place such as inside a mattress or even a picture frame makes a good hiding place.
As you watch bedbugs move, it can look like they are flying or jumping because they can crawl quickly. Bedbugs cannot fly or jump; they can only crawl.
If you find signs of bedbugs, call a pest-control company or your property manager. You should not use bug spray or a fogger. These products have little effect on bedbugs.
You should see a dermatologist for treatment if you have:
Your dermatologist may prescribe the following to treat bedbug bites:
Allergic reaction: Some people may require an injection of an antihistamine, corticosteroid, or epinephrine (adrenaline) for a severe allergic reaction.
Infection: An infection may require an antibiotic. If the infection is mild, your dermatologist may recommend an antiseptic medication that you can buy without a prescription. Your dermatologist will tell you which one to use. Your dermatologist also may recommend an antiseptic to prevent a skin infection.
Itch: A prescription antihistamine pill or liquid can help. You also can apply a corticosteroid to the bites. Your dermatologist will tell you which is best for you.
If you do not have any signs of an infection or a serious reaction, you can often treat the bites at home.
To treat bedbug bites:
Bedbug bites usually heal and go away within a week or two.
