The variety of active ingredients is especially helpful when dealing with potentially resistant strains of bed bugs. The variety of formulations is necessary to treat all potential harborage sites of bed bugs. CimeXa Insecticide Dust has a long residual effect but can be used in fewer areas, while Zenprox Aerosol or Sterifab can be applied in places where dust cannot.

Sterifab acts as a contact kill on bed bugs and bed bug eggs, using a combination of a synthetic pyrethroid and isopropyl alcohol. Because Sterifab does not leave any residual, it can be applied virtually anywhere. Zenprox Aerosol has several active ingredients, including Etofenprox, a new pyrethroid effective even for resistant strains of bed bugs. Zenprox Aerosol has some residual effect, but it is an excellent knockdown agent. CimeXa Insecticide Dust contains amorphous silica gel, which acts as a desiccant when insects crawl across it.
