An Office of Mental Health in Albany in New York was recently scourged by bed bugs. News website timesunion.com relayed the details of it on its post dated June 04, 2014. Meanwhile, wanting to help the public kill bed bugs effectively without endangering anyone's health, My Cleaning Products suggested the use of the organic-based Bed Bug Bully.

According to the report, the critters particularly showed up in OMH's headquarters in Holland Avenue. And as it detailed, it left some people in the building with bites on their legs and ankles. It added that it also prompted employees to always turn their pockets inside out before going home to prevent the transfer of the pests to their houses.

The report relayed that OMH spokeswoman Kristin Salvi has confirmed the presence of the crawlies in the place. However, as it stated, she specified that the affected areas were confined spaces where OMH Design and some Office of Information Technology Services offices are located.

To resolve the issue, the post shared that a pest-control company was called-in to spray the building. It related that another round of spraying was also scheduled on the evening of June 3. Nonetheless, it said that workers were worried about the kind of pesticides used in the process.

"Bedbugs typically live in mattresses or in hidden spots within eight feet of where people sleep, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control."

"But they're also turning up in the Holland Avenue headquarters of the state Office for Mental Health."

Bed bugs are truly some of the most annoying pests one could ever come across with. However, My Cleaning Products said that a harsh chemical-based product is not necessary to get rid of them completely.

Bed bugs are small but are they still dangerous?

As bed bugs increase their presence, exterminators and pesticide researchers are escalating efforts to hunt down and kill the wingless red insect.

State entomologist Dr. Jeffrey Brown says although the bugs are hitting Mississippi hard, especially its lodging sector, he sees the nation as a whole making strides in search-and-destroy efforts.

His assessment is joined by pest control managers in Mississippi and the general manager of a California company who says the companys product kills bed bugs instantly for up to a year with a single application.

On the detection side, mans best friend the dog can be trained to be an outstanding hunter of bed bugs in a hotel room or house, according to Brown and extermination experts.

They bring in dogs that sniff for bed bugs twice a year, Brown, director of the Mississippi Department of Healths Environmental Services Bureau, said of some hotels. Other hotels say hiring a dog is too expensive, he added.

A beagle in New Orleans has gained a wide reputation for finding the reclusive bugs that like to stay hidden until their human hosts are deep into sleep. The cost for the beagle: $300 an hour, according to Mark Armola, manager of the Jackson branch of Redd Pest Control.

But such a dog is going to be with a trained handler and is pretty darn accurate at being able to find bed bug infestations, said David Mayley, manager for Orkins Long Beach branch.

When Redd Pest Control confirms the presence of bed bugs, it employs an eradication strategy of applying chemical pesticides in the infested unit, and the rooms on either side and above and below the unit. Then we see how that goes and do a follow-up treatment in three or four weeks, Armola said. After that, it is pretty well hit and miss if you dont get them in the initial or follow-up visits.

In the meantime, new travelers are bringing new infestations into the rooms via their luggage.

Fire Station 13 in Pasco County was forced to shut down. And according to a report from wtsp.com dated May 20, 2014, it was all because of the pesky bed bugs. In connection with it, My Cleaning Products recommended an organic-based bed bug spray to help the public kill the critters fast and safe and avoid a similar incident.

The report detailed that the critters were discovered on May 14. And as it relayed, Pasco County spokesperson, Doug Tobin, has already confirmed that two of the station's employees were bitten by them.

On May 19, the officials decided to relocate the employees and to close the firehouse for the bed bug elimination, shared the report. However, it stated that it wasn't yet determined as to when the process will be completed and the station will reopen.

Researchers create easy, cheap way to trap bed bugs

GAINESVILLE, Fla., May 27 (UPI) --Researchers devised a bedbug trap that could be built with household items including two disposable plastic containers, masking tape, glue and talc.

A recent survey by the National Pest Management Association showed nearly every pest management professional in the United States dealt with a bedbug infestation within the past year.

Phil Koehler, an urban entomology professor at the University of Florida's Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, said the traps catch and collect the bedbugs as they travel between people and the places where the bedbugs hide.

Koehler; Benjamin Hottel, an entomology doctoral student; Rebecca Baldwin, an assistant urban entomology professor; and Roberto Pereira, an associate research scientist created their trap with about $1 worth of household items.

Koehler said the bedbug trap is pretty much foolproof and effective.

"It's really hard to mess this up to the point that you'd hurt anything," Koehler said in a statement.

Entomologists say bedbugs are becoming more resistant to pesticides, making the pesticide-free device even more desirable.

Bed Bugs Creep Back Into The Mid-South

(Memphis) This little bug will make your skin crawl, especially if you find one in your home.

Bed bugs are back in a big way, so pest control companies are bringing in bed-bug-sniffing beagles.

Meet Shamu. She has a killer nose for tracking these bugs, and shes busy.

Shane James of James Pest Control said, Five years ago if you asked me about bed bugs in the Mid-South, Id say, Yeah we have a couple cases here and there, but now we have cases everyday.

James Pest Control created a mock bedroom at its headquarters, where it hides bed bugs all over the room for Shamu to find.

She sniffs them out, and when she starts digging with both paws, thats how you know shes on the scent.

With every positive ID, she gets a treat.

Bed bugs started their comeback in the early 2000s in major cities like New York and Chicago, and they hitch-hiked their way back to the Mid-South on travelers.

Hotels and college campuses are hot spots for these bugs, but theyre also found in hospitals.

James said, Cleanliness does not affect these bugs. You can bring these things anywhere.
