American Pest Management of Manhattan Helps to Eliminate Family's Bed Bug Infestation as Part of "Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays" Charity Program, an annual charity that has donated over $500,000 in free services since its inception in 2009
Manhattan, KS (I-Newswire) January 15, 2014 - American Pest Management helps local family in need overcome horrific bed bug infestation. When American Pest heard about the opportunity to help a family in need through "Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays," a bed bug charity program, they were all for it. Upon American Pests' initial inspection of the family's home, they discovered that bed bugs had taken over and the kids were covered in bites.
American Pest Management has already performed the first treatment on the family's home, but, in an effort to help better their situation, plans to continue treatment until they have achieved total elimination of the bed bug infestation for this deserving family.
Taking the Bite Out of the Holidays is an annual charity that has donated over $500,000 in free service since its inception in 2009. This program was developed by Research Entomologist Jeffrey White, of BedBug Central, after seeing firsthand how difficult and expensive bed bugs can be to eliminate. BedBug Central partners with pest management firms across the country to provide free bed bug services to those in need. The charity helps those suffering from bed bug infestations that do not have the means to improve their situation, to find comfort and relief from their problem during the holiday season.
"We believe in the charity work we do and were thrilled to help the St. Francis Community Organization and the family in need," said Travis Aggson, VP of Operations/Entomologist for American Pest Management, Inc. "On a personal level, as a local company, it is heartening to be able to see our efforts make a positive impact in the lives of residents in our service area."
According to the CDC, "Public health agencies across the country have been overwhelmed by complaints about bed bugs." Bed bugs are such a problem that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is funding research on bed bug monitoring and control in low-income, multi-family housing, along with educating public housing authorities and other housing industry groups about bed bug identification and control. Nevertheless, local public health departments have very limited resources to combat this problem and bed bugs frequently are not seen as a priority.
