Fumigation of Household Items

Fumigation is a treatment for a wide variety of insects including bed bugs that eliminates them with 100% certainty. Fumigation for bed bugs generally involves a specialized chamber and tools that allow the safe introduction, control, and aeration of the fumigant.

The fumigant is a true gas that is branded as Vikane® (common chemical name is sulfuryl fluoride). The gas is colorless, odorless, and has no residue. Fumigation is appropriate for any household item excluding food items or opened medications. The treatment is 100% effective for all stages of bed bugs with proper dosage and exposure times.

Fumigation is a restricted-use process that is effective while in use in its contained and concentrated area. Our Fumigator is one of the few companies that is fully licensed to perform these services in our region. Fumigation chambers are restricted access, 24-hour monitored, and climate controlled. The specially designed chambers have the approximate dimensions of 18’ X 8’ X 8’. That size roughly equates to the entire contents of a two bedroom apartment or approximately 42 large wardrobe boxes. Items should not be completely encased in plastic or any other impermeable material. Cardboard boxes are acceptable as are woven nylon bags (such as luggage) and items wrapped in moving cloths.

Fumigation of the items involves an exposure time of 24 hours with several hours of aeration after treatment. When scheduling a fumigation plan for it to be a nominally 48-hour process from introduction to return.

Other pests such as drywood termites, carpet beetles, clothes moths, and wood-destroying beetles can also be controlled via fumigation with prior notice.
