Basically you need to have the room at 120 degrees for four hours, 130 degrees for three hours or 140 degrees for two hours before you can call the job complete, he said. Only once the coolest spot in the room is above 120 degrees can we start counting down the time until we can turn the heaters off.

Another benefit of heat treatments is that theyre whats called ovicidal, meaning that theyve been proven to kill eggs as well as bed bugs, unlike pesticides, Ellis added.

At the end of the day, if you can keep that room between 120 and 140 some odd degrees, he said, youre going to end up killing all of the bed bugs inside that entire space without ever having sprayed a drop of chemical inside.
